OH My, they made a huge misstake. Dont we all know that it's not called "Indian", but "Native American" ??. The article SHOULD read:
...Simputer, and a multitude of other privately-funded projects also beginning to take root, the rural Native American (who comprises about 70% of India's population), is slowly inching his way into the information age.
No wonder the USA is outsourcing to India, its just supporting it's native population!
I do deliberately keep my email, and it pisses me off no end when I get some sort of hard disk crash that causes me to lose old archived email.
Hey! someone found a problem to your solution just recently. Its called "Backup". A revolutionary new technology that allows you to make a copy of your data to a non-volotile memory "device", such as a tape or compact disk. The technology even supports you bringing the "device" offsite so it survives fires/burglaries etc Amazing, huh ?:)
I was a bit disappointed with the bugmenot-feature. I tought it would bring me right onto the site in some form of frame so I could be ready to surf right away. Now I have to type the newspaper URL atleast twice, copy/pate'ing the user/password.
Make it a frame, parse some HTML to allow one-click-login, add a banner to finance the bandwidth, and you should be all set.
You can look at this whole process in another way also.
If one argues that the patent (and the licensing fees) was a major factor in the delay of RFID technology, I wonder how many other techs are out there that COULD DO great good for mankind, but isn't because of patent restrictions. Cures/Medicines, new engines/combustion tech, IT infrastructure/security/privacy boosting tech etc.
Your assumption that RFIDs suck doesn't really adress the issue, that patents are working as a deccellerator on human progress.
You should try PowerDNS. It's entire records are located in MySQL database tables, enables very easy update/modify/add/delete scripts. Performance is great:-)
Perhaps (just guessing) Eterm doesnt qualify because of the way the "transparancy" was accieved. Afaik, every Eterm had in memory a copy of the background image, and just painted the approperiate part as it's (Eterms) backgroud. So it did NOT "read" the actual background imaging, it just painted the background picture.
As a result, if you had multiple windows on top of each other, all showed the background, while on "Terminal.app" (OS X), the transparancy shows underlying windows, apps, graphics et al.
This whole thing reminds me of a thing Jerry Seinfeld did, making fun of chinese people eating with sticks. He said something about that he could not understand why they kept eating with sticks, since "they have seen the fork".
It feels just like that hearing about "US Letter", Yards, Pounds, Stones, Miles et al. YOU HAVE SEEN THE METRIC SYSTEM;-)!
Initially, of course you are correct. But (please, correct me if i'm wrong) nowdays C compilers are written in.. C. I imagine that this could very well be the same, you have to start at the bottom, but when your high-level programming language works great you can actually design the software in itself.
Still, these "visions" comes from the same man who said that 640K RAM will be sufficient for everyone.
WTF? How would you feel if *your* car was the one damaged in a hit-and-run?
FAR better than I would have felt if he had hit ME instead, I assure you that. And I think that was the point of the grand-parents post, trying to say that damage to fysical objects of this kind is not as time-critical as injuries to living beings.
I had similar problems with my Quicksilver (G4@800) tower, and my TiBook (550model). When trying to run "Tiger Woods 2003", the program constantly failed, crashing the whole system. I looked at the box for TW2003 and saw a "Designed for nVidia" logo.
When I got my G5 DP(1.8), things ran smootly. Of course.. that machine had a.... nVidia GFX.. I'd say get rid of ATI and get yourself a proper card:-)
I'm on my way to the US in three weeks, first visit ever for me. I am dying to find out what is really so great "over there". I mean... even your animals love for America is such that they try to get back from Europe:-)
(From article)
Zoologists also brought two American Bisons, but idea to breed them didn't work out and bison male run away. I don't know, if he run from radiation or from his bride, but last time bison has been seen in Belorusia, he heading west and may be he just decided to return to America.
Well that's one way to solve it. Still it doesnt work for all of us.
In my case, (I work as a sysadmin at a web-hosting company), we are considering implementing some sort of transparent bridge to limit traffic to WWW-servers in case we need to use our backup line. People can stand having slow WWW-traffic for a while, but mail/dns, especially smtp MUST work all the time.
In short, i cannot just pull the plug on our large web-servers:-), but i do want to delimit their traffic in case of a network problem.
I don't know any Linux distros that use anything but a Linux kernel. Actually, with Windows, you have a choice between the 9x kernel and the NT kernel.
Sorry to say it, but this was by FAR the most stupid comment I read in a while. WHY DO you think it's called LINUX ? *hint* the linux kernel *hint*
Now, if you want to use another Opensource kernel, try BSD. Both are UNIX clones, and both uses about the same portion of userspace applications, such as editors, X servers, desktop managers etc.
Now, about choice. Most current linux distributions come with either Linux 2.4 OR Linux 2.4. And that OR is non-exclusive, some distributions come with 2.4, but are already prepared to run 2.6 as well. Is you WinME NT-ready ?;-)
That sounds very interesting, gotta try it out (PowerBook + G5 DP). Although I have another issue with Mozilla on Linux though.
When accessing shockwave/flash pages, Mozilla (and Netscape, and Opera) crashes on me rather frequently. It happens atleast a couple of time every business day. I just copied the plugins from the standard Netscape 7.1 distribution.
Are there any other shockwave/flash plugins that I can use that dont bring my browser down all the time ? Any hints/tricks/tips greatly appreciated! (Apart from trying out Mozilla 1.7:-)
.zip is vicious too. I've seen several copies of a virus that tries to look like its being sent from the staff of your domain, and says that you have to unlock your email account because of abuse. The instructions are in a.zip archive and the mail provides you with a password to "unlock" the archive.
Dont have any spare copies of the virus to cut'n'paste for you, but, beware of.zip to.
For instance, one of the swedish insurance companies made a large study on car insurances and accidents. They came up with the conclusion that there was a huge peak in accidens with women aged 45-55, even higher than men 18-24 etc.
Of course this does not mean that women suddenly starts to drive like lunatics, just that by that age, most have kids.. boys... aged 18-24:-)
Not at all.
The 2.N -series is the SunOS versioning series. 2.7, 2.8, current 2.9 etc.
The 7, 8 and 9 series are Solaris (Which is NOT the same as SunOS).
Solaris is a collection of a lot of stuff, like window managers, lots of software etc.
So, Solaris 9 contains SunOS 2.9, but it's definitely not the same.
Well, perhaps you dont want to reboot your server. It could be in production or something.
Here is the source code:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
$now = `date +%H`;
if($now == 7 || $now == 8 || $now == 16 || $now = 17){
## Genius part!!
die "Rush hour, take another route!\n";
}else{
die "Roads are clear!\n";
}
## Please note, code is not optimized yet, but it's 90% accurate!
No wonder the USA is outsourcing to India, its just supporting it's native population!
#I think it can be argued that Windows + cygwin != Windows.
why the inequality?
Most people in here agree that Linux + Gnu != Linux, but GNU/Linux.
If you have A (Windows), and add B (Cygwin), you dont get A, you get AB.
I do deliberately keep my email, and it pisses me off no end when I get some sort of hard disk crash that causes me to lose old archived email.

Ok, i see the rings.. but there the FSCK is atlantis ?!?! :-)
Oboy.. that was a true ripoff :-)
Ok.. the wheels are new.. but otherwise, every detail seem to have been "stolen with pride"
You should try PowerDNS. It's entire records are located in MySQL database tables, enables very easy update/modify/add/delete scripts. Performance is great :-)
Does this mean Linus can stop paying child support?
They just figured he'd more suitable for the title The mother of linux.
Well atleast it updates when completely moved.

There were 866 Mhz K6-N CPUs ?
Thought they ended where the K7 stared, around 500 Mhz. Have they continued that CPU line ?

I think not. A virus should be self-reproducing, and I strongly doubt that anyone trying this out will recommend it to more people :-)
