  1. Funny thing is on Why People Should Stop Being Duped By the 3D Scam · · Score: -1

Even more people are going to pirate movies instead of going to the theater simply because they want a plain 2D version so they don't get a horrible headache after viewing it.

Also added to the usual reasons of why people avoid theaters if they can: can take breaks whenever, watch at whatever time they like, on whatever gear they have/can afford, no annoyances like loud or tall people, and a better selection of snacks and drinks.

  3. Hadopi.uk ? on British ISPs Fail To Defeat Digital Economy Act · · Score: -1

All the points raised in the comments have already been adressed in France with the debates around HADOPI.

The burden will be on the user to prove he is NOT guilty.

IPs seems to far to be picked at random (amongst french IPs on torrent trackers) by a company called TMG; some gross mismatch have been detected, including strangely enough internal IPs... which shows a high level of incompetence.

The cost will be paid by ISPs, they will raise prices (like they did here)

Next step (in france at least) is to have "voluntary" filtering enabled. A log is kept on your ISP-mandated modem/router of your connections so you can "prove" you are not "guilty". Of course if you refuse this filtering to be enabled you are deemed guilty by default

Some other goals are: filtering direct download sites and VPNs; some people, who might actually be tinfoil-lovers, claim they will also ban SSH on "consumer" grade connections and require a "business" grade connection to get SSH working again. This would be disastrous for the economy here as more and more people work from home using VPNs and SSH.. but it seems the government can't put 2 and 2 together. To them internet is a media consumption network with only 1 way data flow.

HADOPI is already having disastrous consequences for french hosting companies because people don't trust having their machines on such a crippled network.

VPN sales in other countries are surging, of course.

So brace yourselves UK if you government is looking to copy HADOPI this is what is in store for you.

  4. Re:Question for those who know more about networki on IPv6 Traffic Remains Minuscule · · Score: -1

I'd settle for this if and only if I am assured my openvpn traffic goes thru as normal and if I pay LESS than I currently do.

In France, I currently pay 33 euros for 15 mbit adsl, phone (+ TV but that i dont give a flying.... about) on a dynamic ipv4, i'd settle for a global nat'd ipv4 and free phone (no TV) and the same speed (up and down) for no more than 12 euros a month provided that openvpn works properly of course. Torrenting in France without going thru a VPN is a bad idea nowadays, so it doesn't really matter if your ports are reachable, just remote forward the vpn server ports.

You get a crippled network, you pay less.

The home theatre thing has always astonished me, spend alot of $$$ for "surround" sound, a fancy "TV" (just a big and low res LCD monitor), a bluray/dvd player and then buy the disks now that you can finally watch them (this is of course ignoring buying gold plated HDCP cables and such joys).

Sweeteners? blah! all of them rubbish, even stuff like stervia (so called organic stuff) are just bullshit and potentially harmful.

But even that is getting too expensive for me, I'd gladly settle for just internet with no caps (or very high caps, like above 400gigs at least) for less and pay skype for when I want to call the UK but french ISPs like to sell you all inclusive stuff... filled with garbage...

Firstly it is not a product as such no one is trying to sell anything (aside from support contracts for specific distros) thus there is no humongous advert budget like MS or Apple, also people are so used to Windows or OSX now that it would require a leap of faith from them.

Honestly OEMs are not running away from linux as such, more like entry level users do not realize that there are other things out there than the Windows version preinstalled on their box, so OEMs stick with what people know to not frighten them away with new things.

Well, let me explain something, since GNU/Linux is not a product, aside from the support contracts, there is obviously no plan, you have to understand most of the work on GNU/Linux is done by people in their free time and therefore they cannot be expected to have clear plans on whats next.
Also no real budget, no plans set in stone. Also there is no boss/management to tell people what to do.

Ballmer of course would say Linux is a mistake, it is competition, man, I bet you just love trolling.
I dont have a complaint, everything works here with Linux... I think you may have mistaken me for someone else... GNAA maybe.

Nvidia and AMD are pushing hard nowadays to have good drivers on Linux and I'd call them major...
You are retailer, you are obviously in it for the money, not the love of the game, so do yourself a favor just buy cheap HP Pavillions and sell them to noob consumers (the word customer is reserved for people who actually know something about what they are buying)

I avoid B&M stores because I can do it myself for much cheaper by buying the parts I really want with the OS i really want.

Walmart, Staples and Best Buy dont exist in Europe and hell I would never buy a proper machine from a supermarket...

Java ME is not an OS, stop comparing potatoes and tomatoes.

One again your links show statistic for consumer-grade machines not customer grade gear...

B&Ms and OEMs once again cater mostly to CONSUMERS who are used to Windows and don't know about alternatives because Linux being free doesn't have much of an advertising budget. ALSO, let me point out that apparently you are getting ripped off if you have to pay that much for a Windows license, big OEMs get theirs for FREE from MS because it increases Microsoft's market share.

What has Denmark to do with it? Some yankee joke I guess...
