Dreamcast games that use WinCE will have a specail addition to the sega start up screen with the windows logo and i think it says powered by windowsCE as well. but to be honest, i've been avoiding the wince games at all cost, so i wasn't paying much attention. BTW- shenmue is *not* a WinCE game :)

  15. what in the HELL is this?!? on Microsoft vs. "Naked PCs" · · Score: 1

words cannot express the anger i am feeling right now. what right does microsoft have to spread this kind of inflamitory FUD?

let's put os holy wars aside for a second here. I do have a few windows using friends, and most of them prefer to build thier own system as well as install thier own copy of windows. Why? because they actually care about the legality of it. A few years back one of my friends bought a custom PC and paid for office whatever as an option. He thought he was picking up a *legal* copy. When he got the system and a PHOTOCOPIED manual he swore off getting any software preinstalled. Honestly i don't blame him.

As much as we dislike microsoft and would like to see them burn, there are honest people out there who do infact buy windows.

All in all, i definatly think this is aimed at the mom and pop PC stores. These are the people who use Windows and actually like it "Because Microsoft Said So(tm)", and will pretty much think what microsoft tells them to think because they don't know any better. We all know the type of person and probably have a few friends who are in this mind set (these are the same people who blindly bash mac os... even after microsoft stole the interface). Sigh. I've said this before and i know i'll say it again... Microsoft can pry my open source OS from my cold dead hands.

  16. A trend is starting on The Amazing Integrated Microprocessor · · Score: 1

The same idea is happening all over the embedded market. There is a company out there that has done pretty much the same thing, except they are using the x86 instruction set. Included on this x86 system in a chip is ethernet IrDa, sound and i think svga video.

Now let's take this a step further...
Eventually, we're going to see the limit on how far we can push a single processor, and the only real logical direction to go until we find the next best thing (light based computers?), multiprocessor systems will become the norm. and now that everyone has finnaly cought on to multi-core chips... this may actually become an affordable (affordable for the average joe computer user...) reality. ibm had the right idea with the mutli core g4 idea.. but that has yet to materialize.

  17. VRML and broadband on A New Chance For 3D On The Web? · · Score: 2

IMHO- VRML didn't catch on because it was released too soon. When i started looking into it, i was on a modem and the vrml site took forever to load. Now that cable and dls are making higher speed internet available to the masses this might actually have a chance of coming back. Another possibility is use of hardware 3d accelerators. Since most current computers today have some form of 3d this could also make VRML much nicer to look at. Another issue with VRML is there really was no standard browser (you can go on pretty much ANY platform and run netscape).

all in all, i'd really like to see VRML take off. It can only add to the internet's coolness factor.
