    I think this could more accurately be rewritten as:
    parents who succumb to their kids' marketing-driven nutritional requests are less likely to have their children's performance in education as a priority.
    i believe this has more to do with sociology and psychology than biology.

    Upgrade any hardware device driver and you have to reboot in Windows
    This isn't generally true. Windows doesn't require a reboot after a driver update. However, many driver writers are lazy and don't take the time to implement in-place upgrades for their drivers.

    sounds like a design limitation to me. if you want to know how how to design an extensible desktop search, take a look at their index server - clue: it's not limited to files.

    Well, firstly windows doesn't force you to do anything, you can write your settings to as many text files as you like, or you can use the registry.

    regardless, you seem to be implying that the registry in windows is more 'single-threaded synchronous' than writing to multiple files in unix. maybe you could back that up with something, because i don't see that as necessarily true (unless your files are on devices connected to different busses).

    Sure, but you have been able to do this for a while now. There's nothing really new here except official support.

    Virtual PC / Virtual Server have been able to run Linux and 700+ other operating systems since Sept 13th 2004.

    more tax money doesn't help bad schools, it just makes bad schools more expensive.

    collecting taxes to pay off debt just moves the burden of debt from the government to the people. the only way for a country to pay off debt is to become more productive, and raising taxes isn't the best way to do that.

    ISPs don't want to be liable for the shit your sending over their network. As soon as they start sniffing they make themselves responsible for your kiddy porn and your copyright infringements. They don't know, and that's what they tell the lawyers, they don't want to know and more importantly they don't want to have to know. just don't piss them off and you'll be fine.

    DRM only really works if the decryption is done in hardware whose output is an analog signal.

    software products like iTunes don't require such hardware, yet...

    however, you can bet that stunts like this will accelerate the adoption of these kinds of anti-piracy measures.

    You're right, there are.

    But it begs the question: why would anyone in their right mind boot to Linux to recover a windows machine?

    If you have a wayward Windows machine (or think you might have in the future), get this and stick it on a CD or USB Key.

    It's got many more windows-centric tools than the Linux liveCDs including anitivirus, malware removers, registry editor/recovery, NTFS defraggers, WPA tools, network support, web browsing, etc...

    Well, you could pay $20 for TurboTax Basic Online and be done with it...

    You can even have them figure the amount you owe based on the questionnaire. I've used it for the last few years and it works great.

    I'd say the best thing to do if you're still in college is to get an internship at a large fortune-500 software company.

    You'll impress most potential employers if you can say that you worked for a company they know, worked on a product they've probably used, know how (at least part of) it works and can answer details questions about problems you solved and technologies/techniques you learned, and have a good reference and pay-check at the end of it.

    As someone who's a developer and who's had to scrape through hundreds of resumes and candidates I can honestly say that education (above BSc) counts for zip.

    Two of experience working on shipping products with a decent-sized codebase and a wide distribution is probably the most valuable thing you can get early on in a software engineering career.
