If the government knows you voted I'd bet they also know who you voted for.

I pay for cable to watch on my TV, which is where I watch television anyhow. On the other hand, with this service I'd be paying to listen to music on my computer which is not where I listen to it. I listen to music on my stereo system, or in my car, or on my portable when I go for a walk. I'm not about to pay money for a service that makes me listen to music in a way that is inconvenient to my life.

Then XM or Sirius should appeal to you.

Good Luck to all the folks who were laid off and are going to receive "career transistion services and support." Unfortunately, it was a big lie.

Welcome to the reality of being laid off...

I've seen co-workers reach thresholds where there can no longer take on new work for sake of maintaining existing code.

Do these programmers actually NOT take on additional work? In my experience, the current job is always put on the backburner when the job with the most revenue associated with it, needs to be maintained.

...but has there been any organizational research done in the area of managing this problem? While I code for a living, my degree is in business, and this was a question dodged in all of my Management of Information Systems and Project Management courses.

Probably because there is no real answer. It all depends on complexity of the end product and how much money said product generates directly or indirectly.

We were told pretty much this as well. Although I was in at 6:30AM and left at 4PM, I was also told that enough hours were not being dedicated. So I cut back on lunch and stuff. When teh lay offs came. I was in that group. A guy who had to ask what a varible was ( yeah he was a programmer too) worked 8Am to 8PM almost consistently (due to his not understanding, oh say WinRunner) and he's still got a job. I am realizing it's not what you know, it's how many hours you work and how much you make. Perhaps I should have worked 12 hour days and been palced on suspension twice and kept my salary at what it was when I was hired. but in the end I blame the government and it's shitty PPS regs.
