I get this at least once a week; it appears to either be a transient JS bug, or there's some random "screw over non-IE users" code somewhere...:)
It's a strange one. I can log into hotmail. But I can't get to the personal settings. I can also log into Bcentral, which uses Microsoft Passport. I'm using Mozilla RC1
Yeah but they are looking to save a shitload of cash, so requiring the Indians to be online and coding 9-5 Eastern time would probably be in the contract.
I work for a technology company in the United States who survived the economic slowdown by trimming fat where necessary.
I think saying that you survived the slowdown is a bit premature. first, the slowdown is not over, and second, you only have 2 programmers where 4 are needed. Sure bringing in cheap labor may look good to the accountants but you are far from out of the woods.
"After being slashdotted and geekaustin'd and touted for being the first theater with wireless access.... I went to see Spider-Man tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse North in Austin. Apparently you can't have 'electronic devices on' during the feature. I was warned if I didn't shut down my laptop I had to leave by some girl that worked for the theater. The world's first Cyber-Theater my ass. Nice try, but apparently wireless users are absolutely not welcomed there when a movie is playing. I'm very disappointed. I couldn't even have my PocketPC with wireless NIC on while the movie was on. Was I taking off down the runway on an airplane? What's the point?"
And I am sure that you didn't have a digital cam attached to that laptop either.
1. Get Caller ID and some sort of answering machine/voicemail.
You know, if I don't recognize the number I don't answer it. If it is important, they will leave a message. If it isn't then you can forget about it. I mean, if someone was in an accident then I'd expect the caller to leave a message, don't you? Besides, you might be in the shower and unable to answer the phone. How is that any different than simply refusing the answer the phone when you don't recognize the number?
I can tell a telemarketer a mile away with Caller ID. Their number rarely displays since they are trying to hide. I don't know about you but most of the people I know who might work at a place that shields their number at least have a cell phone, which does show its number.
Suffice it to say I do not answer the phone but once or twice a night anymore. The rest are JUNK!
This is what I do. 99% of telemarketers on my ID come up as Unknown. I let the machine get those calls. They never leave a message. The 1% that do let their number get thru I don't recognize and let the machine get. Again they usually hang up. Caller ID is the best.
You guys need to read your history before you fly off the handle. The HP Way is a management style that until so recenly was the way HP governed their relations between management and rank and file employees. Many of the good things in place in other companies came about because of the HP Way. For instance, does your company allow flex time (flexible schedules)? HP was one of the early pioneers in this area. At the time HP began allowing employees to dictate when they worked, most companies had strict shift type schedules.
An earlier post mentioned job security. Several years ago, a friend of mine took a job at HP. Four months after he started, his project was cancelled. Of course, he was nervous, he had just moved his young family to Idaho for his job, and now that job was going away. However, HP had a long standing policy. He was given 90 days to find another job within HP (Yes, he was paid at full salary during that time).
Contrast that with HP today. Less than a year ago, 6000 workers were laid off. Those that were laid off weren't allowed to apply for any other HP jobs for a period of one year. Quite a difference.
The HP way is the main reason that you see quite a number of people at HP that have worked there for 20+ years. With the way management is currently running things, I think that will be seen less and less. Eventually, HP will have the same turnover rate as most other tech companies, and I think that is sad.
P.S. I am posting as anonymous becuase I am a current HP employee.
In my mind, it's this never lay a worker off, find some job for him inside attitude that leads to huge layoffs, somewhere along the way. You and all your HP way ideas are just deluding yourselves.
So I should give them my postal address os I can get paper spam.
And the end of the boom was when again?
This time? I musta missed the last call to unionize.
But isn't Lindows still Vapor?
try this:
My Real Box Gives ya POP3 access and 10 megs.

of course this doesn't explain why I'm still unemployed, with a BS, when I'd gladly work for 30k( my last salary)
It's JUNK mail.

It's a gaming system. Why should I care if a mod is out there to get me a shell prompt, when all I care about is playing Halo or whatever.

But it's board is considering Chapter 7, after a deal with bertlesmann couldn't be reached.
This sucks
And I am sure that you didn't have a digital cam attached to that laptop either.
Oh well I hope it doesn't suck.
You mean I won't be able to spend 30 dollars a month to share my files and get files from people? But they promised!

pay?
Streaming a commercial-free radio station, with a tip-jar or donations as the only way to get funding is sure to put you off the air long before CARP.
At least you can get access to nntp
Okay I am sorry, what are the ingredients in non-American beer? Gold and diamonds?
Let's talk about cheeseplant's house...
Beer is beer. Rotten hops, etc. The end result is the same, to get drunk.
Funny Babel fish translates that as:I am a citizen of Berlin
