This is what I am fidning out. I have a Handspring PDA with the serial cradle which is supposed to be a null modem. Later tonite I'll hook it up and give it a go. My problem I think has to do with emerge and being online ( I am using Gentoo ). If I emerge and not connect I am fine. if I am online and don't emerge I am fine. Do the two together and it either locks up tight or I get a scrolling mass of hex on my screen. Sometimes I am told that the kernel can't sync ( thus flushing the data to disk doesn't work).

Thanks for the tip. I'm pretty much up on Linux but this is teh first time I have ever had to deal with an oops.

Why the 'mainstream' media does what it does is a topic that could take on its own section here at /.

How come TV can survive without needed subscriptions (skin-e-max and h-blow excluded), but internet webcasts can't?

How much does bandwidth cost to send out a TV show over the airwaves? Nothing. If it cost nothing for a webserver to server pages, sure, it'd be the same thing as TV. But it doesn't.

I recently interviewed there for med school and asked about this, and I was told that it's because they didn't selectively choose their patients. Most hospitals around the country will not treat heart patients who do not have a good chance of surviving because it will lead to lower hospital ratings. King's County made a choice and had a unit suspended for it because they tried to give people a chance.

And do you really think they were going to say "Well our doctor's suck ass." Take what they say with a grain of salt. Read the reports on that 10% mortality rate.
