I was hanging out with a couple of buddies here in Tallahassee yesterday after workb and heard a "boom boom" sound which pretty much shook the whole house. All the dogs in the neighborhood started barking. We thought it was an explosion or something off in the distance, I guess this could explain what it was. It was right around 5:30 PM EST (give or take a few minutes).
I've was always a big fan if Thinkpads. They were always the best laptops for me. Good hardware, sturdy, and I having been involved with projects under IBM supervision I know what there QA is like (hell;-)). Leveno taking things over however has made me doubt things. What kind of support am I going to get? Are they going to spy on me?
You know what? I started out on Apples. I owe the fact that I'm now a software developer on the fact that my schools always had computers (which happened to be Apples in one shape or another) in every classroom.
I trust the Apple brand. While I haven't had the need to own an Apple in 10 years (due to the fact that I develop Windows based systems), I've always been curious. My thinkpad a30 is nearing the end of its life cycle. If I could run XP on a Mac Book, I wouldn't think twice about it. I know I'm going to get good hardware, I know I'm going to get good support and it's an American company.
Is Yahoo/Overture even supporting an AdSense equivalent at this point? Last time I looked into it, it was still being "developed".
I have several cigar related sites and Google as pretty much shunned the entire tobacco industry. I would openly welcome a competitor to AdSense by Yahoo/Overture.
I glanced through most of the points the authors make in this document and most of the evidence (if not all) is circumstantial. Although there are a lot of similarities that could lead you to think that he did it, I don't think comparing the skill sets needed write the program to his newsgroup/forum posts and similarities in headers warrants an inquisition.
Granted he should probably burn at the stake just for writing SPAM software...

Glad I use zone alarm. It seems like their is a lot of this "phone home" technology being built into more and more applications. I like knowing whats trying to get in and out of my system and being able to accept or deny it.
Every fast food restaurant from Wendy's to McDonalds has been increasing the size of there portions based on demand. Fatty and sugary foods taste better so we are ticked into wanting more to eat. The same thing goes for soft drinks, drink an 80 oz coke everyday and see how long it takes before you are shooting up insulin twice a day.
I've never heard of anyone setting up a computer to repel rodents, but the idea of using sound waves as a mosquito repellant is actually fairly old. I'm from Minnesota, where the summertime masquitos get pretty bad; fortunately most, if not all, of the local radio stations will embed a high frequency sound into the radio transmission so that if you're outside listening to your favorite station, the bugs really aren't too bad.
I thought all the clear channel radio stations did this.. only they also repel all the listeners as well
PC World reports about a new tool to encrypt text with a click of the mouse and bury the text in an image. After posting an embedded image on a Web site, someone can notify intended recipients by e-mail with code words such as 'Go to this URL to see pictures from my birthday party'.
I was thinking about this the other day, i dont think i know of any other user based auction sites (uBid isnt user based) that actually have any worth while content. eBay is the only place i know of to go these days. anyone know of any other worth while auction sites?
yahoo comes to mind, but i havent been too happy with the content in the past.

I work for a company which provides streaming media for its clients. One of our biggest headaches has been providing support for to windows media technologies up and running for many of our customers. Netscape users, AOL, users, even many IE users cant get it to work a large percent of the time. Have you ever tried to support a non-power user over the phone? Its a daunting task. It makes us look bad when we cant fix Microsoft's problems 100% of the time.
Microsoft's website has a horrible design, try to look up a kb article and you get junk you cant comprehend half the time, how is a non-power user going to find out how to fix common Windows problems for themselves? many times we end up searching for the problem/error using google and send along the results to the customer. This costs our company allot of money in unneeded support costs.
We are currently looking towards other solutions that don't involve supporting Microsoft.
"The most promising source of the hydrogen may be geological "traps" similar to those now drilled for natural gas. Professor Freund said: "One of these natural hydrogen fields is already known to exist in North America, and extends from Canada to Kansas."
Apparently mining these geological "traps" would be no more energy intensive then current natural gas mining. And with such a vast supply right here in the United States, it like this is an inevitable migration.
I wonder If the oil companies are starting to look into hydrogen as the next money maker. They have the infrastructure (gas stations, transportation) to do it, it seems like it would be a no brainier to jump right in.
You have to remember, many of the 35 million users that are going to get Netscape on the new AOL coaster (err, cd) are also going to be windows users with IE already installed on their boxen.

Common guys, who can forget the original Zelda? The best role playing game ever. Link runing around Hyrule looking for the tri force was the best.
Kinda cool though, get a emulator to run on this thing and you can play all your old games too.

Despite folks who see hydrogen as free, current process require significant amounts of energy to get at hydrogen.
