Kind of depressing, but my college roommates and I got good enough at PD that Darksims had nothing on us. Even at 4 on 8 we could school them most of the time. I'm not sure if they could see through walls (I'm sure they could see behind themselves as you only had enough time for them to turn around to shoot them in the back), but they didn't seem to ever need to reload or pick up ammo.
Players could shoot from latters too, you just had to be moving in the direction of the latter. Another trick that you could use is fast running, which worked on PD and Goldeneye. All you needed to do was hold up and strafe at the same time and you'd move about 1.41x's faster (it didn't seem to average out your speed when moving diagonally). This would allow you to keep up (or catch up with) the Darksims.
To be fair, I think the low framerate had a lot to do with it. And I think that fact that we played the game for 2-3 hours a day (much more on weekends) for over a year helped even more. Ahh... Perfect Dark. You gave me bad grades... House of the Dead on Dreamcast didn't help either...
It reminds me of the typical physics student's t-shirts and lab coats. On the back is something printed to the effect of, "[some school] Physics. If you see us running, try to keep up."
Still one of the best games of all times. Too bad the 360 game was utter crap. I played it and wished I hadn't. I'll take bad framerate 7 year old textures any day over that game.
Favorte multiplayer moments???
Poison knife in the corpse so they wake up dieing.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know the military was sending rockets up on their own (probably should have). I always figured they had NASA do their dirty work.
In a word, yes. But I doubt China is going to nuke one of our satelites in an effor to keep our eyes shut when we pass by. They don't want to start anything, and if you RTFA, you'll see that we don't want to either. Also, the article mentions that the satelites that China was spotlighting are rather large and also about 30 years old. Very old tech. The US has been wanting to launch a large network of smaller satelites for a while now, and now that they're giving money to NASA again that may happen.
China may be able to temporarily disable those too, but I'm not concerned about that. What I'm concerned about is my government being able to defend itself the best it can.
Yeah, house is too old for that. The windows could all use replacement, though. Nice, two-pane glass would do the trick. Seeing as the whole house is single with storm windows that barely move. It's flippin chore opening windows. Oh well, the house is about 90 years old. Oh, and the excercise is something that I won't give up. It's worth a lot more to me than any computer or game.
I'm willing to bet that you will start seeing multiple DVD games, and now that 360's are going to get HD players there will be two options for distribution.
Well, all I own is a Gamecube, N64, SNES, Dreamcast, PSOne... and an Intellevision I inherited when my uncle died in the mid-80's. I do have a brother who let's me borrow his PS2 or XBox in exchange for my Gamecube (his GF like Mario Kart, and he like RE4 and a few others). I own a few games for the XBox and PS2 (Jade Empire, GT3, one or two more). The ones I can't borrow from my brother or a friend. The last Game I bought was Fire Embelem back in Dec '05.
I read and post to/. when I'm supposed to be working. And, yes, I do have other priorities. I work out, I have to pay for a house, I have to pay for heating/cooling of said (almost uninsulated) house. What's left over is generally food and gas money. I suppose I could cut out the excersise.. not likely. Heh, I don't even watch TV. And the TV I have was gained by loaning my cousin some paintballs mid-game. He bought a hi-def and said, "Here, this is for the paint."
So, yeah, I would love to have internet, but I can't afford it.
I've been saying this for a long time. I don't want to be nickel&dimed through Gran Turismo on the PS3. It is my all-time favorite racing sim series... but not anymore. I don't care how good the game is.
Okay, most/.er's will think I'm some kind of troglodyte because I don't have any form of internet at my home. Well, it's not because it isn't available. It's because there's NO WAY I can afford it. So that makes it half as likely that I'll ever buy a game with episic content or horse armor. At least, not until they pay for my internet...:)
I say we build an arc to carry away these people working on such useless projects. We could probably get rid of a good third of the world if we were to just send off all the hairdressers, tired TV producers, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, management consultants, telephone (and mouse) sanitizers. Then we could finally live in peace...
Well, as far as CC goes... if Squenix nix's the horridly repetative music, repetative gameplay, and the shared magic system.
It was almost impossible timing magic. You had three people saying "3.. 2.. 1.. NOW!" to cast complex spells. Now, I'm sure there are teams of people all over that can wipe the floor with their cooperation, but it was very frusterating for my friends and me.
The music got on my nerves about 20 minutes into the game, and about 5 minutes later I just turned on the stereo. I'm not sure how long the tracks are, but they're not composed very well for a repeating background. If you expect a player to be in a dungeon or overhead map for 10-20 minutes at a time, then please, please compose enough music so that I don't have to hear the track more than twice per run. Or make it easy to ignore. (on a side note, I'm pretty sure the Wii will not be able to play MP3 over music tracks like the 360 and, hopefully, the PS3. this makes me sad.)
The gameplay is far too simple. Three timed hits... over and over again. I've already mentioned my problems with the magic system. But it's just as bad either way. Hit hit hit, move. Hit hit hit, move. Power attack, move... Hours and hours and hours...
I wish that Blizzard would redo Starcraft with higher resolution. This 800x600 stuff is really making my eyes hurt with all the new fancy graphics in other games. I wouldn't even care if it was the same game. Wouldn't care a bit. It just looks so BAD on my widescreen, have to run it in window mode! Good Lord. The call for more Starcraft is great... Blizzard, when will you heed the call?
By the way, has anyone heard anything in the past 3-4 months about Ghost? Not that I care, since they canceled it on every system I own.
Yes, that's why I loved Fire Embelem so much. Even on the GameCube. Oh, and if your pegasus knights are dieing, than you really need to level them up proper, because they should be tanks. Sure, almost no defense, but utterly untouchable. I've played through each game using hit-and-run tactics and no knights or generals. They move to slow and get swamped by mages far too easily. All they would need is one more movement and I'd use 'em. But if they can't out run a few mages... pah!
Well, it can enhance gameplay in some ways. I always liked the way it would act as another warning in some suspense games (Resident Evils, Eternal Darkness, Silent Hills...) that your health is low (heartbeat and whatnot). Others it was just another form of input. But I too often turn it off. Games like Jade Empire? Utterly useless. And half the time it rumbles so hard it makes a wonderful knocking noise that I'm sure nobody really likes... (at least the XBox S controllers).
Well, as far as turn-based strategy, I guess we're stuck with all the tactics games and La Pucell. Personally, I've loved every minute of every Fire Embelem. Though FFT Advance moved so slow it took me months to get into it. I think I timed it at about 12-20 seconds between each turn. Which could be taken down to 4-6, but that's still too much.
But don't get so stuck up the ass with the "real-time" buzzword that you sacrifice control over the team to its alter.
I'm not sure if that's a stab at me or at PA or me for agreeing with them... I just want to clarify that I've played the demo of FFXII and I really didn't like it. It's been a while, but I didn't like switching between charecters, selecting an action or two, unpausing the action, waiting for the chareter to actually do something, then starting the process again. It was tedious in the first battle. And if I wanted to que actions and do individualy assigned actions, I'd play Neverwinter or Baldur's Gate. I don't like the way the chars you weren't controlling just did their own thing. Even if you could assign them a script or something. If it was battle or creature specific task lists, I'd like it more, but it isn't as far as I know.
It would be great if an NPC could have massive sets of if-thens. Like if you're fighting a ballon or grenade, only hit it HARD. Always use elementals against elementals. Boss fights are almost always, Haste - Wall (not reflect) - Regen - attack...
I agree that X's timing system has proably been my favorite, though I always liked VI and VII's approaches where you only know when your charecters' turns are coming, and having to guess or time your enemies' turns. It just felt a bit more challenging. If VII's system could tell you how long it would take to actually perform your action after you select it, then that would be the only improvement on that system that I can think of right now.
Well, lets consider the downward turn Square's FF franchise has taken from moving to Sony platforms. They certainly haven't gotten any better. Then again, I'm more concerned with how bad the storys have become and gameplay has gotten out of hand, epescially lately....
I just wish I had a chance (and time enough) to play DW VII.
Hate to burst your bubble, but anyone who's played FFT (assuming you meain Final Fantasy Tactics) knows that 4 hours of batterly life is never going to be enough. It's frusteratingly little... Where the hell is the next Tactics Sqeenix? We'll buy it as long as it is more like the PSOne version and not like the GBA version. Hell, it'll sell a lot of systems. I would even think about buying a PS3 if'n it has enough amazing tactics games on it...
I might even break down and buy a PSP if there was a few good tactics games and they let me copy them to mem stick so I didn't have to play off UMDs.
You can actually get some nice setups from Pioneer and other aftermarket places that work much better than the stock stereos. Most of the Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Panasonics and what have you can have add-ons for them that let you control your iPod from the card remotes. They also have three line displays so it's almost like looking at your iPod interface.
I'm planning on getting one of these sets for CDs and iPoding in the car.
Well, I suppose when you see a couple nuke cooling towers with a big green "BP" printed on the side or a large yellow shell, then you know you can fill up. Better put it on auto-drive if you don't want your brains scrabling. I'd imaging that the medium that 1.2 Megawatts has a bit of a an electro-magnetic field to it. May just interfere with your iPod's playback.
Well, if the power brick is anything like the 360's, then leaving the PS3 on in a cold room would proably be rather practicle during the winter. You can probably include that in the list of featurs. Right next to real time weapon change and giant crabs. Personaly, I'd rather not have any giant crabs as I imagine the normal kind are trouble enough...

Someone had to light a fire under some elses... yeah. We've all heard that one.

Umm, this sounds suspiciously like a normal FPS. But, I haven't seen any footage either.

Err... yeah, it's been a long time now... I haven't played at all lately because I can't get it to work over wireless. Any tips?
