Can you expand on this "reverting to bing" behavior? I'm not saying it doesn't happen or anything, I'm just not exactly sure what you mean. I've been using nothing but windows for the past few years and I don't think I've even seen Bing on my screen once.
I must be especially tolerant of it for some reason. I have been using the release preview on a 1920x1080 desktop for a while now, and I don't miss 7 at all. I guess my interaction with the start menu has always been minimal, relying on the search function almost 100% of the time. That still works fine for me. I haven't noticed any trouble in using the desktop interface either, and I appreciate the changes to explorer.
I've been using the release preview for a while now, and I don't think you need to worry. I don't feel at all restricted in my window management. Windows desktop applications work exactly as they do in Windows 7. Some new applications may be made to work using the tablet-oriented UI instead of/in addition to the desktop UI, but I seriously doubt productivity software will trend towards only providing a tablet UI.
When I was a Catholic I used to wonder why people would enthusiastically label themselves "atheists." "Really," I thought, "labeling yourself based on something you don't believe?" I was also quite annoyed; it seems almost impossible to indicate that you don't believe in God without being perceived as implying that those who do believe in God are fools. But if non-believers remain silent their bests interests are ignored and the religious begin to assume a position of preference and privilege. Don't deny this. People claim in the US that this is a Christian nation and often don't think twice about leading off official government and scholastic meetings with sectarian prayer. If people like me keep my lack of God belief to myself then we will be ignored. Of course, there ARE asshole atheists out there who do little besides patting themselves on the back and chuckle at creationists.
Of what use are "unalienable Rights?" What makes them unalienable? If you've been locked up without a trial and no release in sight, are your "unalienable" rights helping you in any way?
The reality is that our rights are dangerously... alienable. We have to remain vigilant. There's no creator that will step in and make sure our rights are upheld, and those who would violate our rights don't care much about ambiguous appeals to divinity. (Except, of course, those in support of their own agendas.)
I guess my point is that the notion of God-given rights is useless. I see our rights as valuable enough, sacred if you like, without that idea. And even if they are granted at birth by a supernatural being, this seems to have nothing to do with what our rights are in practice.
Mine has none of these issues. There does seem to be some weirdness with the touch screen when the screen is awakened by something other than the power button, but that seems like something that can be fixed with a software update. In general, I really like the device.
Interestingly, a ZX Spectrum emulator was recently discovered buried in the ROM of Goldeneye 64.

Supposedly a programmer at Rare wanted to see if their old "Ultimate Play the Game" games could be emulated on the N64 while they were working on Goldeneye.
I think you're right. And what I hope is that this trend actually continues, but is also accompanied by a change in attitude towards being so damn judgmental and petty. We should be allowed to share our drunk photos without fear of being disqualified for future employment. We should be allowed to disagree about politics and religion openly and publicly without fear of being ostracized.
That's not to say I want the option of doing things privately to go away, I just wish we weren't so scared to be honest with each other. I think we're stuck in a culture of needless shame.
I think the Microsoft antitrust case related to including IE was utter bullshit. Even if it's not the browser I want to use, I want my OS to include a browser when it's installed. Things are pretty inconvenient otherwise.
I'd happily pay much more for a windows 8 tablet if it could easily become a laptop. Windows 8 is a "real" OS on which I can get work done, not a toy OS for web browsing and watching videos.
I think that creating a single OS that feels natural in both the tablet and the laptop form factors is an achievement worth pursuing, and I hope they nail it. If a Windows 8 device is created that can switch between these two form factors (and I think that's just a matter of time) I think this could be a winner.
Just curious, but I always see people say they have over 100 tabs open at a time in these threads. How do you manage all of them? At what point is it simply not useful to open one more tab? Are you actually frequently looking at each of these tabs? I find over 15 tabs to be annoying at best. I just have trouble understanding how you're actually using the software. Are they spread out over multiple windows at least?
I don't expect there to be any agenda. Fox is not run the same way Fox News Network is. The shows on Fax do not, and have never, had any sort of political agenda. A lot of people commenting here are afraid of nothing. The show is hosted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson and produced by Seth McFarlane. I don't think either of those two have much threshold for bullshit.

What do typos have to do with insight, exactly?

You spelled "center" wrong.
I know from watching UK television that the new emergency number there is in fact 0118999881999119725... 3.
I really, really want a bumper sticker that says "Jenny McCarthy causes autism."

*steganography. Stenography is typing court transcripts.

You're a gay.
Well, his doctor's a damn prude.

New indie game manages to rip off two non-indie games at once, showing the strength of indie game development! Pfffft.

Zenonia is both awful and available on the DSi/3DS.

Fox and Fox News have always been very different.
Closer to 60 mile radius.
And England for being complicit, right? Right? (Assuming extradition does happen.)
