That's what I'm building. It's a mini tower with 4 400 GB drives. For the moment, I'm just using it for playing stuff on the TV. I have a Sony DVD juke box but it's pretty sucky. Haven't tried watching DVD images across my network yet. That should be fun.
Ah, they make movies to appeal to widest range of audience which means lowest common denominator. That leads to super simple plots, explosions, etc. Bummer/last movies seen in theater: LotR, Kung Fu Hustle
Heck, just a month ago I subscribed to HBO + a DVR.
Heh, did the same thing, wanting to catch Rome on HBO. Since then, have been thinking about making a media server that will allow me to copy stuff from my cable company DVR. Glad HD prices have kept dropping.
Part of this is the whole blockbuster thing. It started in the '70's, with Jaws and Star Wars. This also coincided with the rise of the multiplex. Since then, Hollywood's gotten hooked on the idea of blockbusters, each bringing in 100+ million. kinda' like junkies, trying to reach that first high...
You're right. I'm a Mac geek who was a medic in Desert Storm, and both an air craft and diesel mechanic and used to do construction, from Florida. Wouldn't know a thing about survival in a disaster area.
You can build a decent house out of 2x4 pine in the south, if it's appropriately tied together. Sheath it with OSB and then vinyl siding. What really caps it off is to run a solid (welded) one piece steel bond beam around the top of the walls. The roof, with only angled surfaces (flat sides on a roof can lead to wind loading and then a collapse of the rafters, one against another), is then tied down to the bond beam. Makes for a very stiff, very strong structure, that winds tend to go around. A good example of this would be a Key West style bungalow.
Sad thing is it was the best of new Trek. About the only shows I watch again are original Trek. Yeah, they're goofy and cheesy in some spots but there were some really good stories from time to time.
What's wrong with mixing wine and beer. I just spent the weekend going back and forth between beer and wine, whenever the mug got a little light. I'll admit, Harp on top of Sangria has a bit of a twang to it, but it still does the job.
While visiting my Dad, I wondered why his XP system was running so slow. Turned out he was still running a 533MHz PIII. WTF? A neighbor had convinced him to sell his virus laden 900MHz machine last year and buy a 'new' machine, as it would be easier than cleaning up his machine. Knowing my Dad, he went to Best Buy and was suckered. Ah well, despite my working as a tech professional for the last 15 years, he refuses to ask me for help, much less advice, concerning computers and a/v equipment. Guess some parents never realize you're an adult.
Don't most MS OS sales come from new computer/OEM sales and not people upgrading their systems? The entire readership of Slashdot could boycot Vista and MS's sales numbers would still be outstanding. You know Dell and co. are all drooling about new hardware sales. Finally, MS Bloat has given them a reason for them.
Someone figured out how to scan an image and put it on the web? WTF?!!! You know what would be really cool? A comic about gaming. I really hope someone comes out with one. And maybe one about geeks who spam satan while wearing clothes 10 years out of date.
What, you mean how Xerox PARC only had icons as buttons to do actions (verbs) and windows that did not overlap while Apple went and came up with the desktop idea, drag and drop, and overlapping windows? How dare you say Apple innovated one bit of the GUI. It sprang fully formed from PARC and Jobs used his special eye-cameras to download the source code to a hidden 3.5" floppy drive in his underwear.
Well, that and the fact that even if you do pirate their software, they know that you have already given them several thousand dollars for the hardware you're running it on.
I just paid $575.00 to Apple for my first Mac and it came with an OSX CD. Is Apple going to be mad at me because I didn't spend thousands of dollars with them? All my previous Macs have been used. I have bought all the previous versions of OS X for them, though, all the way back to OSX beta.
Run legacy apps in an emulator and sell new ones for the new OS? MS would hate to have everyone buy their stuff again.

Um, they ranked the new #2 at BSG.
They could have used a Cary Grant to their Katharine Hepburn in Voyager. Sorta' Star Trek meets Philadelphia Story.

They don't want you buying used CD's, either.

Even now, having an Afghani officer on board the Promethius wouldn't really have the same effect.
Things change! WTF?!!! When did this start? Aaaaagh! It's the end of the world. Things are changing!
Only if 'e's a pansy who can't 'old 'is liquor!
Don't forget to throw Starbuck into the mix!
Here's some info to send back to 1978: In the future, guys will have sexual fantasies over Boomer and Starbuck.
Meh. Jimmy Neutron already invented all this.
I use the worst ATM. I have to put money in it to get it to work.

Meh. H. Beam Piper wrote about this, back in the 50's.

Hmm... now where did apple most of it's fancy OS?
I'd like a verb, please.
