The four comments on this story all blame the woman for her own stupidity?
Are you guys for real? Yes I assume you are guys.
Just because someone makes a stupid mistake we don't have the right to keep on blasting her for it! And she asked please would you stop and leave me alone. And the idiots still kept on pestering her. Making t-shirts? I cannot belive it! Sure - it's not illegal to do that but the people doing it place themselves square into the neanderthal part of the intelligence and compassion scales! I bet you guys know how to google - so don't just take my word for it - but an environment in which you are continously beeing harrassed can cause all kinds of damage in a persons soul. Some people in Italy and on the net really should think hard and long about their own behaviour! Are you all 13 years old? I don't think so!
And then to come here and you all continue the blame fest on her for beeing harassed and mobbed enough to take her own life? HELLO! She took her own life. That is no joke!
I had to thaw up my old account for this because I'm shocked and ashamed of what Slashdot has became.
I used tucows a lot many years ago. Then they started with the sleazy ads and practices. So I left. It probably will take another 15 years of decent behaviour to get me back.
Is that how it works on win7 now when you have everything on "automatic"? I have all set to "manual" so that I can 1) avoid costly downloads over my mifi connection and 2) time upgrades to run when it suits me.
This is what I worry about too. I am on the road 70% of the time and would like to continue downloading upgrades only when I'm on a landline. If this cannot be controlled it will be a serious downgrade for me to use windows 10.
Mobile Browsers who when you click on them start to download all over again the last page you visited the day before. This page is in 99% of the cases not interesting for me. But the instant reload gobbles up my data plan. Chrome I'm looking at you!
Here in Norway we have had this system for ten or more years. Super easy for most with just paychecks and a mortage. Highly recommended! And if you want or need you can still do it the old fashion way. Also highly recommended is checking your yearly totals agains the simplified report. Computers occasionally make a mess.
People I barely know - this is what I want it for. I have a horrible memory for names even though I almost always remember a face. Show me their name and when and where we last met and my social life would be a lot easier.
But the probem is if these glasses are used by everyone knowing peoples names and birthdays will no longer impress people. And eventually remembering somebodys birthday will be thought of as rude since you are no longer showing an effort.
I am a peace loving middle aged lady and I feel really mad when I think about people recording everything I do without asking permission. It is incredible rude. And while my first instinct is to walk away from such idiots my next move if leaving wasn't an option would be inspired by Miss Piggy!
So true! We all make mistakes. But with a global recording of everything we never get the chances to forget and move on. Nelson Mandela would only be remembered for the times he hit his wife.
All jokes aside - who thought it was a good idea to use wifi to control the human equivalent of overclocking? Sure - people can be killed with RF-guns that destroys pacemakers or even with old fashioned guns or poison and in many other ways. But why add another possibility to the mix? Also given all the jokes on this topic (thought I was on reddit for a while) I'd say that Cheney have good reason to belive someone might not like him. But then I am a stupid foreigner and you are possibly making all these jokes to show the man that you love him very much.
I had to login to write this. Many people online have for various reasons difficulties understanding the consequences of things like these. By having risky options "Default is On" and "You can opt out" they will be tricked into allowing Google to use their name and picture in ads. A company claiming to act responsible and "Do no Evil" should not need to do questionable acts like these.
I know some telemarketers exploit this and sell their products to people with mental problems, dementia and what not. We all expect Facebook to con people into writing things they later on make publicly available. But for Google to take a step in the same direction is actually much worse since we are stupid enough to expect them to do no evil and therefore are more easily duped.
They will not. Remember the good old days when computer monitors were taller and narrower? People put toolbars at the top or bottom. Then someone decided screens should be wide and low. And to get enough space for my work I dragged my toolbars to the left or right edges. Voila! More workspace! Enter Gnome. Vertical toolbars? You do not want that! We put them back to the top and bottom. But how about an option to continue to use vertical toolbars? No Madam - we know what is best for you!
Like I have stated elsewhere - I think it was in the textbook my Norwegian teacher used. And for trusting peer reviews I am always sceptical to the conclusions made by hive minds after a few visits to Reddit and similar sites.
More info here: http://goran.krampe.se/2013/01/02/ssd-nightmare/ "So power cycling can apparently trigger this - and the disk for some odd reason (self protection?) decides to decapitate itself and set accessible cylinders down to 16 instead of 16384."
Well it is not beeing broadcasted in Norway. So whenever it is I will already have read about the most fun or shocking parts on Reddit and other websites. Even the local papers will have had spoilers. So when it finally airs I will not be that interesting anymore. I can't imagine why people pirate it.
As a Norwegian I know that many still watch illegal content even using Netflix, HBO and similar. Because much of the newest content is "not yet available in your region" we use proxies and vpn to fake beeing from the US of A. So we pay for one service and then hack it to get more content than we pay for. Much like you can hack your cable provider to get more channels for free.
One can only weep for the US. It's like watching your friend slowly becoming an drug addict but there is nothing you can do to stop it.
And it's about time Europe started making our own alternatives to Windows, Macs, Androids, Gmail, Facebook and whatnots. Linux would do I guess. And perhaps gmx.net for email. But what about the others?

As a woman I think this must be great news! But as a foreigner - should I aim for Seattle or San Fransisco?

LOL my point was that even scientists are people. A more educated group than many redditors one can hope but still humans.

I think the teacher tought us this partly because it said so in the text book. But it's a long time ago and I am not sure of that.
Could be Time magazine - but most of the teachers back then were pretty left wing and very sceptical to anything from the US of A.
Not only US American - I went to school in Norway.
I remember in second grade ca 1974 my teacher explaining that the Earth were slowly heading into a new ice age.
If I ever meet him again I'll buy him a beer!

So Linus got bitten by the same Intel SSD bug that bit me and many others?

I can't find a download for my trusty old SGS2. Am I beeing dense or does it not exist?
