I currently use Blackbox because it's more lightweight than either KDE or Gnome, it loads almost instantly. It can run GTK+ or QT apps just fine, too. So what are these "desktop environments" doing that takes so much resources? (honestly!)
Indeed, Tolkien makes it pretty clear that Smeagal was of the Stoors. Compared to Frodo, Sam & Co. he could probably be considered a proto-Hobbit, but twisted and corrupted through all his long years in posession of The Ring.
Fellowship, p12. (Concerning Hobbits): Before the crossing of the mountains the Hobbits had already become divided into three somwhat different breeds: Harfoot, Stoors, and Fallohides.... The Stoors lingered long by the banks of the Great River Anduin, and were less shy of Men.
Return, p414. (Appendix F):
Footnote 1: The Stoors of the Angle, who returned to Wilderland, had already adopted the Common Speech; but Deagol and Smeagol are names in the Mannish language of the region near the Gladden.
Pop-up ad blocking, Banner ad blocking, Cookie control, Policies for pop-ups, scripting, ActiveX and so on handled on a per-site basis - content-filtering transparent http proxy (hint: use a more secure browser instead)
Ran into this one when a friend tried to check out my online photo gallery while using Norton "Firewall". Norton happily disabled all Javascript on the page because it apparently didn't like my DHTML.
In my opinion, a "Firewall" has no business interpreting HTML and Javascript. Norton should be taken to task for this, else we risk creating defacto standards.
I'm not Canadian, but it seems to me the CRIA gave up any right to complain about citizens sharing music amongst themselves when they got their levy on media.
Courts have ruled, routinely, that the full version of a long contract that cannot be displayed at time of purchase may be included along with delivery.
Perhaps, but a EULA is not a (traditional) contract. There is no chance for negotiation of terms, and no written proof of acceptance. In every case I've seen, all you've got is a "click-here-to-pass-the-eula-screen-and-install-th e-software-you-already-paid-for " button.
Armagetron is a networkable, 3D light cycle game, as seen in Tron the movie. Check it out at http://armagetron.sourceforge.net/. Latest version even supports Internet multiplayer!
You do know that Quake 3 runs natively on Linux, right?:)

Indeed, the sport of American Football was tailor-made for tv broadcasting, with plenty of pauses for commercial spots in the game, and the season culminating with one of the greatest marketing extravaganzas of the year (the Superbowl).
I can't stand the sport myself, would rather watch Baseball, Hockey, Rugby, Tennis, Golf, Curling, Bowling, Celebrity Poker, Synchronized Swimming, pretty much anything rather than American Football. It's simply too boring. A brief moment of action followed by 10 minutes of waiting. Rinse, later, repeat. Now Canadian Football, there's a sport!:)
I wonder if your issues could be attributed to packet fragmentation or something network related..
FWIW I'm currently using Mozilla 1.3.1 on Mandrake 9.1 and have not experienced any of those problems. I do have occasional font issues where, for example half a word will be invisible until I drag the mouse over it. This seems to be more of a general video driver issue though, because I've seen it on other apps besides Mozilla.
It should only be illegal to send the truly annoying spam that is offensive, trying to scam you, or sell you something that you shouldn't have, or that there is a very small chance that you would want
Dude, you just described 90% of UCE. I don't have a problem with legitimate commercial email (no forged headers, working removal link, ect). And I'm glad that governments are finally taking SPAM seriously. However, instead of the act itself, I think they need to focus on spammer's illegal activities like:
Hacking other's computers and using them for spamming purposes
Selling questionable or illegal goods
Forgery of headers could be seen as fraud
Identity Theft (ever get spam bounces in your name that you definately didn't send?)
I think it's supposed to be humour.. normally one wouldn't need a bang (!) to write and quit. At least I only use the bang when i've modified a file and *don't* wish to save it.
There may be something peculiar with your setup. Slashdot has always rendered fine for me using all sorts of browsers on both Windows and Linux. As far as your statement about most Slashdot readers using IE on Windows, that is an assumption on your part, unless of course you have access to the server stats (which would be interesting to see!).

Darn, I've got directories instead of folders. Guess I'm out of luck, eh?

MySQL Mistake #8: Failure to close connections properly will bite you in the ass during a Slashdotting.
And I for one welcome our new Slashdot overlords. Wait, no I don't. :P

who doesn't have a region-free DVD player, or one capable of being set that way?
Most Americans, in fact.
And heaven help us if Clearchannel decides to put a crap song into rotation.. :(

I first ran Quake on an AMD 486 DX4/120 in software mode, and that sucked ass. Played a mean game of Duke Nukem 3D tho.

I LOVE the movies and own both
I don't know.. are they the regular editions or the extended editions?
Did you just call SCO a legitimate business? *Backs away very slowly*

Welcome, newcomer. A friendly word of advice: If you see a link for goatse.cx, for the love of god don't follow it!
Shouldn't that be:
Stuck in the middle with GNU..?
