  1. Why do people here insist on bringing up the SJW-altright in every article?

Why do people insist on looking the other way when a swath of political culture is causing harm to the rest of society, but really believe "they're not the baddies." Let's be honest here, western society was making a pretty hotass line towards a colour blind belief system through the 1980's, 90's and mid-00's. Then progressives and feminists decided that the most important thing in the world wasn't skill and ability, but your sex organs, declared sexual partners, and/or the colour of your skin. Then they started pushing it on everyone, and pushed hard.

If you're american, then you've already seen the fruits of this when democrats and progressive screeched that anyone who dared to disagree with Obama era policies was because they were racist. That's it. You're a racist for disagreeing. Now we've got the "if you don't follow what we tell you, you're a nazi." I have to give them credit though, their ability to drive people away and damage dangerous words to the point that they lose all meaning is great.

  2. And the hostility towards diversity here on Slashdot is misguided and idiotic. When I see white boys from upper middle class families complain about being oppressed and how it's a meritocracy in technology, I find it hysterical that they can't see outside their little bubble and realize that they had all of their opportunities handed to them.

Yes, us half-asians(or asians), who are penalized in US(don't live in the US anyway) university admissions akin to whites and are born to poor working class families, where name brand kraft dinner was a luxury sure are 'white boys from upper middle class families.' Nothing like finding out that a university specifically penalizes you because of your race, instead of making the selection based on best candidates? Yeah, those of us who climbed up from the bottom really do like meritocracy, because we know that people got there on skill, ability, and competence. Not because they had the current trendy gender selection/sexual preference, had the right colour of skin, or some other *insert non-selective trait* that they were born with/without.

because you were smart enough to pick the right parents and genes so that you have natural aptitude in a lucrative field.

I'm not sure how you got so far in life being so stupid as to believe that a person picks their parents. Or believing that if a person truly wants to, they'll rise through ability and skill instead of moping around going "woe is me." Ever wonder why those of us who were dirt poor are the most angry at 'diversity' bullshit? Nobody has a problem if programs are open to everyone. A lot of people who worked hard for their job and skillset however are pretty pissed off when someone else coasts along because it looks trendy as fuck to the company they're working for though.

And god forbid if a company doesn't for the bullshit that girls are not as good at math and science as boys.

Uh-huh. So that's why in so many places, they also lower the aptitude and physical requirements for policing, fire fighting, military enlistment and make everyone either pick up the slack for them. Or actually endanger the lives of everyone else because they're unable to deal with the demands of the job. Funny enough the most outspoken people against this, are the ones that passed the actual requirements before all that "diversity" bullshit was being pushed. Why? Because people believe they didn't get there on ability, skill, prowess, but were handed the job because it looked good. I mean, what's it going to take? Another dead fighter pilot that would have been drummed out if they were male. Or another ship nearly sheered in half because two women had a snit, and refused to talk to each other? Or an entire fire dept., refusing to work with someone because they couldn't even carry a hose and put the people they were supposed to rescue in danger.

  3. Well some stuff is so leaky it's stupid. Look at the recent bit with baby monitors for example. We're not talking about a lack of passwords, but rather that the devices are so badly designed that any form of protection is easy to bypass, much like all of those "smart locks" that idiots have been pushing.

  4. I thought Intel was in a bad position because it decided to dump $300m at diversity initiatives and fire a bunch of engineers instead of investing that money in R&D like AMD has.

Not really. Because I can apply 5 points of those to gear heads(people who work on cars obsessively) for example. Or people who repeatedly build new PC's for themselves, even if they don't game, or even people who are bookworms. Really though it seems more to me that the old entertainment world is worried more about video games replacing them then anything else. The gaming market it bigger then Hollywood for example, the stigma of being a gamer/geek/nerd that most of us lived through the 70's, 80's, 90's, and part of the 00's with no longer exists. People want to be gamers, geeks, nerds, it's been trendy as fuck.

The entry barrier point for gaming is so low now that it's silly. And the return amount for a single game vastly outstrips any medium except books. A good book can easily cost $10-20, but give you 40-70hrs of enjoyment. A single video game that costs $50-70 can give you 200-300hrs of enjoyment on a single play through(I'm looking at you Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Stellaris) and so on. Even more playtime with mods, F2P games or P2W(like Star Trek Online) can give thousands of hours, and you don't drop a single penny into it.

Training. How else? In a RPG, skills aren't handed out to you. In life they aren't either. The difference between the two is that while you're playing the RPG for enjoyment, it usually glosses over the hard work required to get there. Though there are some games that have a near-realistic training period, Eve is a good example of this. People like to call it the spreadsheet simulator, but you get nowhere without investment into the character you've created.

The problem? Some games let you pay your way to success, and that doesn't happen in real life unless you're whoring yourself out, or being such a scumbag that everyone hates you. Or in the rare case that society has created special rules for you, see affirmative action policies that discriminate against particular races of people(whites and asians mainly).

  9. Still pretty obvious whose interests he is siding with then IMHO.

Sure is. The interests would be that the law is not up to date with the current technology, and voting against avoids legislating from the bench. This is also the reason why the US is 30 years behind the rest of the world in terms of privacy legislation, but you people seem to be happier legislating from the bench.

  10. The fact that he voted that a warrant isn't necessary tells you that he thinks a warrant isn't necessary.

And that's the correct decision based on the current state of the law. So what does that tell you? Figure it out? It means that the proper solution is to write and amend the existing law to be that, and have it tested.

  11. That's because the original post was written by an idiot, that has repeatedly shown that they lack the basic understanding of law, separation of powers, functioning government, and would be much happier taking a hyper-partisan approach to the issue then adding something constructive(failing to read the opinion). That doesn't make it an ad-hom, unless you're lacking in their past comments and hyper-partisan history. If I was actually going to use an ad-hom, I would have started with a low-IQ retard, stacked with self-inflated worth, that mindlessly spews propaganda until it's shown they were lied to, repeatedly.

    See how easy that is?

  12. You've just argued that his point is correct, and that the proper reasoning would be for congress to write the appropriate law rather then the court legislate from the bench.

They have excess inventory because the bottom fell out of the mining game with lenders no longer giving money out for people to build the machines. Once that happened, they were stuck with inventory that is going no where because they didn't see the market trend.

The upside is that this will drive the costs of cards way down, and since they massively missed the market it'll be a good chance to get a card if you're using an older one.

I don't get something about these kinds of claims. Maybe you can explain it. If the right is worried that the left controls Hollywood and most entertainment, why don't they make their own studios and produce right-leaning content?

First problem, is that Hollywood and most entertainment is held exclusively by the left. That makes entrance very difficult, never mind the culture of "if you don't belong, they go after you" mentality in entertainment itself. Same hold in a lot of education as well, people don't seem to realize that in general the left has a hold on most of society and conservatives are the general minority outside of the population.

But, they have made their own stuff in the past. Most have moved to far more profitable fronts like video games, and we can see the problems there with gaming site gatekeepers trying to push the same garbage that "if you're not xyz inclusive, etc" they'll attempt to ruin your brand. See stuff like Detroit Become Human, and several other similar titles.

Let's not forget that conservatives already did what you suggested in scifi with pointing out the utter hypocrisy and circle-jerking, that was with sad puppies and rabid puppies. The entrenched leftists in the hugo's decided that burning everything down and ruining the brand rather then allowing conservatives to have a voice was the acceptable option.

If we really cared for imposing dangerous ideas into impressionable kids, we'd have to start with expose kids to the Bible or the Quran. The First Amendment makes this a non-starter.

And here's the difference. In one case, a person can change their mind. Get up, walk away, no consequences and even rail about it until they drop dead of old age. In the other case, they're fundamentally screwing with their biology that's not reversible, will cause long term damage to every organ in their body, and fundamentally screw up their brain chemistry for life.
