I've been staring into the screen since 82, and I have perfect 20/20 vision.
Someone once told me, that it's because I "work out" my eyes. When I'm not seated in front of the computer, I'm out in the nature, either hiking or sailing. The eyes supposedly likes to look at things far away as well as close up. Being outside in the wide open should be a great contrast.
I have no idea if that's the true reason, but I thought I'd chip in - maybe someone has similar experience?
The last time slashdot covered this the response was "come back when this is more than vapoware." Well, this is still nothing more than a bunch of slides. What has changed since the 28th when the story was last published? (Nothing, it seems)
What's an Ipod connection? And what does it do? Say it's to enable people to fill up their mp3 player with new music, why isn't it just a USB port? If it's so you can hear your music, why isn't just a jack stick?
This smells like some smart marketing suit yelling out requirements "we need this...and that!... and an Ipod connection!"
Or if you think you need to upgrade your OS, why don't you consider Linux
I use linux for all my daily work, but I still dual-boot into XP when I need to do DTP. I haven't seen a single piece of DTP software on linux that is useful. (Yes, I mention this from time to time hoping that somewhere, somone knows of a DTP application for Linux that's actually usable which I've missed. In that case, let me know so I can ditch XP altogether;)
Bohr and Heisenberg made a popular interpretation of the duality paradox called The Copenhagen Interpretation. Needless to say, Einstein disagreed with this interpretation.
From tfa: "The longer people have been using the Internet, the more likely it is that Google will be their search engine of choice" and "people whose primary search engine is Google are more likely to have household incomes above US$60,000"
You can't conclude that. It's like saying "I'm left handed. I like linux. Therefore, all left handed like linux". What they have found out is, that people with more experience has a higher paid job. There's no statistical evidence tying it to their search engine of choice.
"Google also emerged as the search engine of choice, with 52 percent of respondents choosing it as their primary engine for general Web searches. Yahoo came in second with 22 percent, while Microsoft's MSN and AOL tied for third place with 9 percent."
That survery is good to see which search engine is the most popular. Google obviously is. But if you only have 9% MSN users in your statistical material, then you can't compare them. You need to compare groups of similar size.
Itsn't this freedom of speech as long as it isn't directly libel?

I appreciate all he's done for Gmail, but he can't take credit for their excellent spam filtering. That credit should go to Steve Linford and XBL from the Spamhaus project. As stated before, Gmail uses XBL to filter out spam. Needless to say - the XBL is pretty cool.
Being forced to use outlook for so long, I've become used to have a calendar integrated into my email client. I really miss that feature in Gmail. I see that hotmail has one now, and yahoo has had it for ages. I hope someone at google picks up the idea.
Parent is modded funny, but in reality it's an interesting question. It would be a good idea if they did float to the surface when they run out of battery. It makes it a whole lot easier to pick it up and recharge it.
I know we all love google and all their products, and sure enough - google desktop search is on the list. However, this might be a good opportunity to mention Yahoo desktop search which is a far better tool imho.
Great - now they're finally catching up with Open Office:)
Actually, I'm wondering. If they're really implementing PDF support in that many products, wouldn't it be easier to just do it one place - say in Vista? Windows Vista could have native PDF support, and in turn all the programs would have PDF support - not just the above mentioned.
I'm getting so frustrated over all these DMCA issues that I have to get up and do something physical. So, now I sing the Y.M.C.A. song and dance the dance, but using the DMCA acronym and ending it with a big pelvis thrust.
After I started doing that, I stopped posting silly comments on slashdot... oh wait..

This should have come from the why-would-anyone-want-to-do-that department.

I fully understood what their new product is, and I must say it looks very cromulent.

What the hell are Clunkers anyway? In my language it means testicles, but I don't think that's what he means.

Albeit 53 keys are too little, I like the idea of less keys on my keyboard.
I don't want a windows key. Nor do I need an email key. Or a key to open my browser. Or a volume slider.
My old metal IBM keyboard is still the best I've ever seen.
Good luck complaining about offending messages and spam. Man - I'm missing the point here. Tell me again what good this protocol is?

For a short period of time, Storebaeltsbroen held the record, until Akashi was built.

I actually crossed them both at the same day a few years ago. I wonder if that entitles me to a place in the Guiness book of records

I couldn't tell the difference between this, and "real" hip-hop.
The other genres sounded just like some random notes selected from a predefined list to keep the composition in tune.
My conclusion is, that this is how that hippety-hop music is actually created.
My name shall from now on be "Big Gangsta Al". Stay tuned for my new album.
