Yay. So now I wont need an extension cord when I play with my light saber any more. Because we all play with a light saber now and then, right guys? Guys?
I never thought this day should arise when I would, in public, utter these words: I'm with Microsoft on this one.
IANAL, but it seems like he clearly broke his contract. What I don't get though is, why did Google issue a press release about them hiring him? Was it just to taunt the happy fun ball? I mean - it's the first time they've done that, and they chose to do it with someone whom they knew was controversial.
When I read the intro text I thought "this is stupid", but try the demo. It's actually pretty cool. I predict this to become standard very soon.

Ok so I read the review, and we can obviously expect a lot of bells and whistles as well as a fair amount of eye candy. It may or may not be good, but it reminds me of cellular phones (mobile phones). All I want is a stable phone that I can use to make calls. But with all the crap they've put into phones recently, that's actually hard to find. And I feel the same way about windows. All I want is a stable OS that I can use to run my applications in.
(And before someone jumps the gun - I use *nix at home, but I'm forced to use Windows at work)
This reminds me of a funny story. It was one of those cop shows in tv where a reporter was at the scene where a crime had taken place a few weeks ago.
The reporter was giving the viewers a brush up of what happened when the cameraman caught something behind her. A couple was doing it and had forgotten to draw their curtains. The cameraman zoomed into the couple and filmed their act.
Of course, they re-shot the scene later when the couple was done. However, the clip leaked to the internet, and within hours it had spread across the country.
Uhm... either you're all getting this wrong, or I am. Of course google has people evaluating their search index. You guys aren't really buying the pigeon thingy, right?
Of course they're evaluating their search and ranking technology all the time. It's also evolving all the time. And of course there's a site where you can log into from all over the world (google is global you know) and of course this site is restricted to those people they hired to do the job.
Ok - at first I didn't realize this was a joke, but just a quick look at the advertized product gives it away.
But even though this is a joke, the technology to achieve this isn't that far away. I'm going to be a parent in about 6 months, and while my kid is young, I wouldn't mind attaching a GPS to the kid. Of course, once he/she reaches a certain age, I will have to trust him/her. But until then, I'd be using such a device in a jiffy. I think... it's my first, so I don't know what to expect from having kids;)
So howcome Google doesn't hire the top X contestants? I assumed that was why they made this competition - to find qualified employees? Afaik, none of the participants has been hired.
I'm not sure why he says that the glorious e-commerce days wont return. Hey - there where no glorious days. Surely, a lot of sites spawned all over the net, hoping to grasp some of those millions just waiting to be earned, but there weren't much actual buying taking place on the net. The e-commerce market is much bigger today than it was then. The ammount of credit card transactions on the net peaked christmas 2004.
Has anyone read how google will deal with adsense clicks? Since all users of the accellerator will come from the same IP, will that IP decrease in value? (It's well known that the same IP can't just click again and again and generate revenue).

Trustrank is basically the same as resetting pagerank.
What happens is, that humans select some webpages which they trust. The idea is, that these trustworthy webpages only links to good sites. So, the trustworthy webpages are used as seed into a regular webcrawler.
At first glance, this looks like a low pass filter to me. Ie the same result could be achieved by cutting all PR 5 sites.
All Soviet Russia jokes aside, it's alarming how much the US resembles the old USSR. Impossible to get in and out of without a cavity search. Anything you say on the phone will be potentially picked up by the government, and privacy is virtually non-existant.
Yeah - marketing departments are the roots of all evil. I once was asked to estimate a project, and the marketing droid said "by the way - your estimate can't be longer than until October, because we already booked the TV commercials". And that's not from dilbert - that's a true story.
I agree with the prevoious posters that yahoo is quite innovative, and I often check them out to see what they're up too. But I always leave quickly because their services doesn't extend to my country. I realize that living in a country with 5 million inhabitants instantly disqualifies you for a lot of services, but at least I can use all our special characters in google search.
Even if it was possible to say anything has peaked while standing on the peak, I doubt this is true. I wish it was, but just wait until the next major hole in Outlook is found. More users. More windows boxes. More malware.
I'm not that much into windows, but this windows-update thingy seems like a great idea. My only question is - why don't they just release the patches once they're done? I mean - setting a specific date is like a release plan; we don't release just yet, but we estimate that we're ready on monday with it all.
Especially security patches should be released immediately when they're done. Distributing the releases would probably also take some load of the servers. Or am I missing something about windows update?
I'm actually glad that they're doing well. They *almost* turned into an evil megacorp, but recently Amazon has behaved quite well, and their service level is top notch.
Mmmmmh - Giant chicks
"Bill Gates To Star With Steve Jobs On Broadway"
Yeah, and Batman stars in his new movie "Batman begins".
But then again -a headline that read "Some unknown actor plays Bill Gates" would probably not be posted on slashdot.
640 years should be enough for anyone.

At least it's stable. It's exactly the same amount of time as the last time slashdot mentioned this.

Check the pagerank of this site and take a wild guess whom they hijacked...

acquiring images with a spatial resolution of 300 metres
Surely the resolution will be better than 300 m, or am I missing something?
Uhm yeah about that. I can see in my logs when I visit my own pages that I get two hits. One from a Google IP and one from my own IP. What gives?
Has anyone read how google will deal with adsense clicks? Since all users of the accellerator will come from the same IP, will that IP decrease in value? (It's well known that the same IP can't just click again and again and generate revenue).

Nice feature. I like it. The link wont add pagerank to the linkee, but will it also not drain the linker?
