  1. So... when's MY turn ? on Best Buy Has Man Arrested for Using $2 Bills · · Score: 4, Funny

I almost exclusively pay with $2 bills. I go to the back every few weeks and get about $400 worth, and just pay for most things with them, or a credit card if the value's quite high?

Why? Mostly, for the expression I get from the counter staff:

"Two dollar bills? Cool! Oh... damn, where do I put them in the till?"

Sometimes they go into the clerk's pocket, after being replaced with more 'common' bills :)

  2. Series II data sheet is lame on User Review of N-Charge II Laptop Battery · · Score: 2, Interesting

I was looking at the data sheets for the two versions of the N-Charge.

They're both pretty light on details. But... at least the Series I data sheet gives you dimensions and capacity (in watthours)

The Series II datasheet only has the dimensions listed with the optional expansion pack, as a footnote on the bottom of the 2nd page, and no charge capacities at all. It's almost as if they're embarrassed to state anything. It's not a 'data sheet' at all.

Yeah.... the slashdot interface is a little daft in that regard. There's NO indication that a post is in fact replying to a screened/hidden post, rather than the 'visible parent'.

One needs to, onceself, say "okay, that response doesn't make sense, perhaps I should click 'parent' to see if it was in response to some OTHER post.

Just a little indication of "in reponse to hidden post" would alleviate a LOT of confusion.

What you actually need is a function that flags 'this is the right answer', and then you just read off the inputs.

For example, with a sufficiently large QC, you could find an input that matches a particular SHA-256 input INSTANTLY. Ie, "Give me the input where the output is equivalent to this hash".

You'd need to use mod_python if you were intending fiddling with the apache internals, though, but for simple web apps, mod_fastcgi works great.

  15. Re:Single button rules (except for Powerbooks) on Why Apple Makes a One-Button Mouse · · Score: 1

    I must disagree with this.

Sure, it's far more convenient to have an external mouse, and I carry one of those little Kensington cord retractable (and more recently, a wireless) mice in my laptop bag for that purpose.

But, sometimes, I'm using the Powerbook in a situation where there's no suitable surface for the mouse (such as a vehicle seat, or a waiting lounge), or I want to use the computer so briefly there's no point connecting the mouse.

So... I just use the trackpad. And, a lack of a 'right button' is totally of no consequence. I can switch from 'right-click' to 'ctrl-click' with no problems whatsoever. However, I HAVE Found that, when using a PC, locating the different position for the left and right buttons to be a little awkward. I MUCH prefer Apple's decision on this.

The OTHER way to increase throughput is making the protocol more efficient (which 'n' does, as well, which is why belkin is claiming a 600% increase, rather than a 200% increase), or increasing the utilised spectrum (which 'n' does not do).

That was the whole idea behind TCPA. EVERYTHING in the audio and video stream is encrypted, all the way to your speakers and video display. If the bits inside the file say 'do not allow this to enter the analogue domain', then the last piece of digital TCPA hardware in the stream will say 'no, I refuse to send an unencrypted stream to the next device'.

Of course, that doesn't stop you putting your microphone in front of your speakers, or videotaping the screen on your display, but neither of those are attractive to just about ANYONE.
