Ball point pens were great when they came out and calculators were banned, but not sliderules. Laptops in high school? I'd disagree, desktops at school and home would be better (opinion of a father whose daughter says ooo...shiny, new...when getting a laptop as a graduation gift).
Been there, done that, and it sits around lol. She doesn't fuss anymore though since we bought the house she wanted a few years ago on Valentine's day.
"Last week, the transportation secretary, Ray LaHood, said in an interview with a Chicago radio station that Toyota had halted production of recalled vehicles "because we asked them to."
Indeed, Toyota had to be told by regulators to shut down production and suspend sales of the cars and trucks in the latest recall until it had the parts necessary to fix them."
After a dealer did service on my non-Toyota car a couple years ago, the throttle stuck open about 20 minutes later while on the highway. The brakes were good enough to get it to a stop and I then shut off the engine. Scary for a few minutes but it worked. They had examined the throttle cables for some reason and put the cover back on incorrectly, causing it to later jam.
The problem with Toyotas I expect will come down to an electronics problem, not a mechanical one like I had. Seems to me that they are trying their best to put the blame on anything else expect their software.
"His known passion for single- or two-passenger high-velocity transport led to his brief acquisition of an English Electric Lightning F1A jet fighter XM172, which was installed in the front garden of his country home. The Lightning was subsequently removed on the orders of the local council, which "wouldn't believe my claim that it was a leaf blower", according to Clarkson on a Tiscali Motoring webchat."

Simple solution: fly to Canada and rent a car/take a train or bus, or a Caribbean island and take a boat. You'll still get questioned at the border but it avoids the TSA airport stuff.
again, in the wee hours before dawn. I had a subordinate who didn't feel well, and left work sick. As he started to leave the studio, he found Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise, on roller skates, spray painting a billboard in front of the studio. Apparently Depp objected to the image of himself holding a gun, because he thought it glorified violence too much (maybe directed to kids? I don't know). When security showed up, Depp said that's my picture and I'll do whatever I want. By 7 AM, when day shift showed up, the billboard ad had been replaced.
I disagree with him not being a stupid bastard. Evil, yes. Here's an anecdote: I worked for 20th Century Fox when he bought the studio. One night, as I was toiling away in the wee hours of a holiday fixing various computer problems, the sole security guard on the lot at 10201 W. Pico Blvd in LA, (old guy, friend of mine) got a phone call. Seems Rupert was running around LA in his Ferrari or whatever, and ran out of gas. He demanded the security guard leave his post to come help him, which he did, leaving the entire studio unguarded. Anyone who can't read a dashboard or who won't stop for gas as needed is an idiot. Now, don't ask me about Barry Diller and a certain Olympic diver, or my Johnny Depp story..Depp is cool, Diller is weird.
Tron might qualify as being before War Games. It came out in 1982.

I took a look at coiledsnake's comment and noticed something odd
http://news.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1558288&cid=31224858
There are 3 links in his comment, and all to frequent submitters of stories that get put up on slashdot.
One link: http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/23/1710245
submitted by "Stony Stevenson"
Another link: http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/09/02/1418252

and another link: http://tech.slashdot.org/tech/08/08/18/2016228.shtml
submitted by CWmike which links to http://www.computerworld.com/
Why would these frequent story contributors link their nick to publications? (hope I got the links right)

Volkswagen is helping, so maybe they had a spare car around?

According to this article, NHTSA did shutdown Toyota.

Think of it as evolution in action.
I have mod points, but I'm torn between +1 funny and +1 insightful ;)
Perhaps he meant as a leaf blower, at least that was Jeremy Clarkson's excuse. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Clarkson

You sound bitter. You no longer need an invite for a gmail account.
What about the cost of no snow? It insulates pipes and lowers heating costs.

says religion has no say in games. And I'm on the good guys side ;)
I noticed that too. I guess that means he's offering his daughters. I wonder if anyone has told them, and the legality is dodgy.
JCL is easy. There are only what, 6 possible statements, and variations on them. And Gary Brown's JCL book has been around since at least the mid-70s iirc. http://www.amazon.com/zOS-JCL-Gary-DeWard-Brown/dp/0471236357

Moderators cannot delete posts. IIRC, the editors did that in the past about a COS story.

This is in LA, where there's a gas station every few blocks.

Dang! Missed it by that much.
I've heard of a lawyer in New York who specializes in these type of issues. Dunno if she's licensed in your state though.
