And remember that the PS3 will NOT contain a Blu-ray player
WTF ?!? Of course it won't contain a player. It IS the player ! What kind of nonsense is that? The cost will precisely come from the Blu-Ray drive and laser components. That is the difficult part in building the players...decoding from it is simple.
I bought a dvd player (hd841) and tv (hlp4663w) 18 months ago. DVD player crapped out and has been replaced by an Oppo. TV crapped out and is currently being serviced.
You're wrong. I just bought a DVD player from Oppo Digital because their customer service is great. I sent them an email at 3am and they answered in a couple of hours !! And this was prior to me being a customer.
Going forward, customer service will be THE determining factor for me as to which products I buy. I'm not sure how long Oppo wil excel in this regard, but since i can't predict the future, I'm just going with what I know now.
Ok, you lost me. Isn't the whole issue about HDCP that it will degrade ANALOG signals, not the digital signals. If the tv has two HDMI inputs, I don't see what the problem with the tv is.
Sony expects to make 100 million units...That means... 230-75=155$ per unit in R&D => 15.5 billion $ in R&D spent to make the Cell
Huh? What ?!?
I don't think $230 is an outrageous figure for a chip that has been very complex to design and build. Initial prices have to reflect the costs that have gone into the entire process. And let's not forget, the Cell chip is not Sony's baby by itself, it cannot unilaterally set chip prices. They have to be agreed upon with IBM and Toshiba. And I'm sure they want to recoup their investments as well.
Face it, there's no way the chip costs $75. If it does, the console could retail for $199.
Even if IBM did say the chip cost $75, that doesn't factor the cost of the entire fab process. Those costs in the billions were paid upfront by IBM, Toshiba and yes...Sony.
It's disengenuous to suggest that the current MSRP has any bearing into a product's cost. Sony will be able to amortize its costs OVER TIME....but they have already paid for the materials and production for the first batch of processors.
If SOny releases a $400 or $500 PS3, what incentive is there for its Blue-Ray partners to release simarly priced players? BlueRay will be dud for them.
Tell me about it. Sony may be able to control costs OVER TIME, but they still had to put the money upfront. If the Cell is bust, then Sony is in a real pickle.
If the PS3 isn't better than the 360 by an order of magnitude, it will be disappointment. Particularly if you have to wait until 2007 to get one.
The bad thing about trumpeting the technology so much is that technology is ony relevant for a given time period. The design and feature set of the PS3 has been frozen for some time. So delaying its relelase for a year or more doesn't mean it will be any more powerful...it won't.
will not put up with that. Sony may actually force them to support HD-DVD now. Sony seems to be losing it.
Why are Europeans so defensive about this? Weird the things that get you guys upset.
as the same Sony fanboys who make every excuse for the delay of the PS3 will sing a different tune now.
No wonder they are losers.
you need to be shot in the face

You are such an idiot.

Don't let the hype fool you.
That's weird, I thought Microsoft planned to introduce it on March 9. But I guess they're lying and you're tellling the truth. Yeah, that's it.

Implementation was not required for the type of patent filed. Please do some research before spouting your ignorance.

You sound desperate.

Snowboarding shouldn't be in the olympics but curling should ?
Are you gay ?
It has a remote hack to remove HDCP.
you are one boring ass bitch.
Please, Cleese was having fun -- he's entitled and not everything he does has to be "classic".
Uh...most of them can't show their faces or legs ! Muslims are so fucking scared of losing their women that they have to enslave them. Silly fucks.
Muslims will need to be eradicated. You know this, right ?

Sony's future may be at risk.
Other than hockey, i guess you have to look hard to find something else to be proud of.
Thanks, that was awesome ! Even as an American i have to appreciate it.
Unless you're Chinese, right?
And also, they should list their competitors numbers too.
