All I can picture in my head is a mash-up of War Games, National Treasure, Highlander, and Mortal Kombat. If there data post is legit it represents a huge breach in security. More importantly, it's one of the first times a breach has been brazenly flaunted.

I was at the recent shuttle launch for STS-134. I was fortunate enough to get tickets from the Kennedy Space Center. Seeing that shuttle take off was the first thing I have seen that was anywhere near Biblical in proportion. The thunderous noise that followed a few seconds after launch was literally earth shaking. If you can make it, I highly recommend it.

This is one of the best comments I've read in this thread. "Why?" was my favorite question as a kid, to which my parents and most adults always responded, "Because I said so." This INFURIATED me.

"Well, what fucking stretch of logic and reasoning made you say so asshole?!" was my mental response. A large number of psychology studies and research into brain function and theory says that all a young mind is trying to do is create and build understanding and connections. "Because I said so." completely prevents this from happening.

In full disclosure, I teach 8th grade science in Florida (and yes, it is that bad.) My students, however, whipped the pants off the state testing average by about 25% (an average of 40% passed this recent year, 65% of the students I taught passed. Not great, but still good, especially considering I just completed my 3rd year of science teaching and i have my undergrard degree in literature.)

The problem with education, in my opinion, is this desire to create unquestioning cookie-cutter automatons more than anything else. While resources and money do play a role, remember, our earliest civilizations had schools that taught with giant fucking blocks of clay and sharp sticks.

  19. Re: Preposterous on Games Workshop Forbids Warhammer Fan Films · · Score: 2, Insightful

I had to clear up a few things here and there, not just in this post.

First of all, Games Workshop does *not* produce miniatures of any sort. The miniature models come from Citadel Miniatures. Games Workshop produces games.

The older models were quite expensive. Lead, and most recently pewter, hand-cast miniatures are not exactly cheap pieces like those found in Monopoly. That, and if you've actually held and seen some of the miniatures, they have FANTASTIC detail. To address the cost question, plastic miniature kits have been produced for almost all army types, lowering the cost. A quality army can be built for $100 or so now, as opposed to $400 ten years ago.

As an aside, I'd take the $400 army of high quality pewter models over the $100 plastic kits though.
