  2. Re:Notice what he didn't say... on Music Exec Fires Back At Apple CEO · · Score: 1

Yes, I think that guy had it wrong. Some songs should be $0.99 and some should be $0.75. The $0.99 price point puts an album around $7.99, which is a price I haven't seen on the shelves for new material in a long time. But the record companies also have to realize that there is no packaging or physical medium involved, so the price has to be lower. I feel the public won't bear a higher average price, but we also said that about gasoline and everyone's still cruising along.

The price can definitely go much lower, especially when you are trying to move copies of music that people would otherwise not get. They should not be afraid to price a few songs on an album at $0.99, some at $1.25 (for current hits?) and possibly some at $0.50 for those real stinkers they use to pad an album. This guy is just out of touch and lashing out in an industry's last gasps before reform sets in.

Neptune would be the dominant body in Pluto's region of space

I'm just wondering how they consider Neptune the dominant object in Pluto's section of space. Check out these facts...

    1. Pluto is a very long way from the Sun. Its average distance from the Sun is over 6 billion kilometers. The closest Pluto gets to the Sun is over 4.3 billion kilometers., and the furthest away it gets is over 7.2 billion kilometers. From Pluto,

    2. Neptune is a very long way away from the Sun. Its average distance from the Sun is almost 4.5 billion kilometers, or over thirty times the distance from Earth to the Sun. The orbit, or path, Neptune follows around the Sun is almost a perfect circle. The closest Neptune gets to the Sun is about 4.3 billion kilometers., and the furthest away it gets is a little over 4.6 billion kilometers. Neptune is about 49500 kilometers wide.

    3. The average distance of Uranus from the Sun is about 3 billion kilometers. It is about 51800 kilometers wide.

This means Neptune and Pluto are 1.5 billion kilometers away using average distances. With Uranus an average of 3 billion kilometers away from the sun, that puts it as far away from Neptune as Pluto, again on average. Someone needs to do a planetwalk to get an idea of the scale of things. I wouldn't say Pluto is in the neighborhood of Neptune any more than I would say Mars is in the neighborhood of Mercury. BTW, Sedna and 2003 EL61 aren't in the neighborhood of Pluto either. See here for scales.

Back at an old job 10 years ago, we were decommissioning some very very old hard drives in some Sun servers that took up an entire rack for just four drives, one shelf each. We decided to have some fun and break out the hammers, drills and chisels. It took us days to break through those with the measley tools we had on hand, but in the end we rendered all platters useless. Giant platters with multiple drill holes, awful scratches, fingerprint marks, bent and twisted. For a while we adorned our cubicles with these to show what real data loss looks like.
