I work for a cellular telephone company... and was a part of restoring service during the blackout of August 2003...
There are a few things I need to say.
First, our critical/hub sites all had battery backup, or generators. Our switching sites are all powered by large deisel generators as well. Battery powered sites were recharged 24 hours a day until power was restored by technicians carrying portable generators going from site to site.
Second, while it is true that most of our microcells went down, they are mostly for ultra-high capacity areas (ie, large cities/downtown) and were unnecessary since everybody was at home anyway.
Three, since the blackout every site has been receiving batteries and generator hookups.
While I cannot speak on behalf of other carriers... we fared quite well during the blackout. The only large outages we normally have are due to fiber cuts.
What are you talking about? I have a 3 Year Diploma from a Community College for Programming. I couldn't get a job to save my life. I had to go to a temp agency and sell my soul for minimum wage data entry.
Do you know how I got a decent job, eventually? A contact. I still can't get on full time. I'm supporting a family on a Contract that could disappear at any time. Yup, that Community College who declared 98% placement rate sure was right.
It's over 2 years later, and even with programming experience I can't get an entry-level job, and I'm putting myself through university part time in order to get a degree so Canadian companies will actually look at my resume rather than throwing it in the garbage.
And this isn't just me whining and bitching. The guy who sits beside me? He's doing the same thing. He got a job because I was his contact. How about the rest of my classmates? Well, I know more than a few who went back to school as well. Be it upgrading to a Bachelors, or even swapping to another program entirely.
This is a good point. I'm definately willing to pay a little more in the local store vs online for ease of returns and the offset in shipping. I've had to return several online purchases in the past, and the money I've saved on initial purchase is more than used up on shipping back an item and the time it takes for turn-around.
I would much rather head into the store, buy an item, and then return it the same day.
Rogers Owns: Rogers Video Several TV and Radio Stations more entertainment stuff...
So... you would think they would be on the same side that Videotron is on (sad thing is, Rogers wanted to buy Videotron, but Quebecor took them to court over it) but... the issue here is, Rogers actually wants to keep their customers.
Notice the lack of an Athlon 64 FX version of AMDs dual-core strategy. For the time being, its recognized that games are exclusively written for single-threaded operation and as such run better on single-threaded processors at elevated frequencies. Thus, the FX series marches on at 2.6GHz for now.... so for games, keep to your single core CPU.
There are already many free graphics engines out there. The music, art, and game design are the sticky situations. Also, it seems every 12 year old programmer (or maybe they all just seem to be 12 year olds) want to make their own MMORPG... and yet nothing gets accomplished.
And plan to sign it, and have everyone I know sign it. I won't have my rights stepped on without a fight. Who knows, maybe parliment will even reject the WIPO changes.
The most annoying popups I have seen lately are making use of document.layers and not plugins like flash. Most of the time they're the ones that popup ads when you run your mouse cursor over a word. Pain in the ass, those are.
Don't mess with them... I tried once, it wasn't pretty. I still have to move every couple months so they don't find my location...
This post alone will give me away, I need to move again... but I needed to warn you all!

I do believe that war drives a lot of R&D as well. Heck, didn't the Internet we all love come out military research?
Not saying I'm pro-war or anything, but killing each other has lead to many advances as well.
What if the company who tossed this in the dumpster comes and says they want it back? Did they ever give up their rights?
Don't kid yourself. Crap like that happens in the private sector too. Everyone here tries to land themselves over-budget so they don't get slashed.
That's just it... how many Mobos have 2 AGP slots? I personally haven't seen one, but maybe there's one out there.
LCD space saving isn't that great unless you wall mount. If you put it on a stand, it takes up as much real-estate on your desk as a CRT.
I run an Apache Webserver at work on a Windows Machine. I'm sure there are many many more. I've got them hooked on FOSS because they trust my opinion.
If only we could move this out from our department to the entire company.
Hrrmmm. Let's think about this for a moment.
Standalone machine....
Other programs run off a server....
Sure doesn't sound like it.
Most likely both...
Indeed. I'm lost in the horrible grammar.
Cannot join #bt (Channel is invite only).
Agreed. But contracts are usually the first to go [I've seen it happen the past two holiday seasons] when the work or money runs thin.

There's nothing sleek here. You just quoted components. What about the size? What about the sexiness? What about the ease of use on an Apple?
I'm not an Apple fan, personally, but this isn't a bad computer for Ma and Pa who don't have much space and just want something "That Works."
Uh, what is this "Hello World" you speak of?

Anyway, free engine props:

I've been reading too much about the DMCA act... it's poisoned my passiveness.
I think you may be confused, or maybe it's me. The way I'm reading this:
Liza, a member of the NDP, wants the WIPO changes ratified into Canadian law, making the Canadian equivalent of the DMCA.
The petition is to uphold the rights of the user as-is and also to uphold the decision of the superior court than downloading is not stealing.
And plan to sign it, and have everyone I know sign it. I won't have my rights stepped on without a fight. Who knows, maybe parliment will even reject the WIPO changes.
... ... ...
bwa ha ha ha ha ha.
This is so true.
