AirCanada & EasyJet in addition to NorwegianAir just announced today they're immediately adopting the "2-crew in cockpit rule" used by all US Carriers as well as carriers flying to/from the US. Hopefully the rest of the a airlines, including Lufthansa will follow suit to show they've learned something from this mass murder.
Per French prosecutor, Co-pilot set controls to descend for deliberate crash. The course was a steady 26 degrees indicating he didn't faint and fall on the control stick and still maintain 26 degree course. Further, you must not just touch the control but hold it down for a time before the course is maintained. Breathing was normal. The solution, already standard in the US (and today by NorewgianAir) is to require 2-crew in the cockpit at all times (one may be a stewardess). Further, aviation experts seem now convinced to require streaming cockpit cameras aboard all large passenger planes. This demystifies all the time spent on accident investigators & news media speculators. The worldwide passenger needs trump and pilot privacy.
http://www.nrk.no/norge/endrer-rutinene-etter-flystyrt-1.12282226 NorwegianAir today requires 2 crew at all times in cockpit, just as we have in the US. We can only hope Lufthansa can follow sooner than later. Also, it's about time cockpit streaming cameras are required on all large passenger jets, demystifying most accident investigations. The worldwide passenger demand certainly trumps any pilot privacy.

You are correct. RIM and Nokia have no case, as the videos clearly demonstrate they can have similar problems to very small number of iPhone4 customers who experience this problem. The missing message from the distorted press was that this is NOT a significant problem for most iPhone4, RIM or Nokia customers, but was blown out of context with all the iPhone hype.
Very well said. It's disgusting to see so many/. posts with no basis in fact, just personal bias. Before someone posts - please inform yourself by watching the video. Apple has done far more than any other smartphone company ( including the "foreign" ones, like RIM and Nokia) to make sure everyone who buys an iPhone4 is 100% satisfied including free bumpers and complete refunds (no restocking fees). Funny how despite all the press about this very minor issue, the iPhone 4 is Apple's best product yet with virtually no returns and the highest rate of customer satisfaction among all smartphones.
Apple allows many Browsers on the iPhone & iPod Touch including Opera (free App). However, seems most users prefer Safari to Opera now as Opera (1st version) fails to support many touch functions we all take for granted by now.
A bit more about malware on Mac Products: By the way, many hear Macs have no better security than Windows PCs. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is NOT simply “Security by Obscurity” (10% of laptop Market). Mac security problems (viri etc.) reported have been related to old pre-OSX O/S, Officeand other M$ products run on Macs, pfishing attacks etc. Macs don’t recognize.exe files, and most importantly default privlidges do not allow any “foreign” software to be installed.MacOSX informs you of any attempt to install “foreign” software, and if you insist on installing it, it will ask for the system password. Even if you’re gullible enough to enter the system password, it again warns you that you’re about to install “foreign” softeware for which you have to acknowledge again. Even if it is installed (i.e. an.exe file), you can click on it and it will do no damage to you Mac. In addition, unlike Windows PCs out of the box all port access except 2 (ftp & ssh) are blocked which prevents hackers from exploiting backdoors. You can see plenty of testimony from Windows users who are relieved when they switch to Macs to be free of malware, except phishing attacks, of course. Now if Apple would only send me a check for writing this based on my heavy Windows, Linux and OSX systems experience.
Note that this is another Windows virus that affects only Windows PCs. It does NOT affect iPads or any Mac products. BitDefender is likely using the iPad's popularity to widen their Windows anti-virus audience. Most everyone knows that Macs do not use.exe files used by virus writers to perpetrate Windows viri. Nice attempt at publicity!
You are right on. We have 3 iPhones we use, and 1 since they 1st came out. We can run virtually all the Apps we want, even w/o 3G. If you have WIFI and EDGE, 3G is just a luxury you pay more for (not worth it for us). Our phones continue to be up-to-date with the just fine GPS, videorecorder, 5MP camera, iCam and hundreds of Apps, none of which existed when we bought our iPhones. However, it may be time to more to a iPad (iTablet) next week, but our 3 iPhone will just "Keep on Truckin" just fine for a lower monthly fee than others on 3G. Yes! so far Apple has made a product that continues to be upgradable, which is like a gift that continues giving.
Other (lower cost) suggestions welcome. Rewiring coax where the phone line is looks difficult as it doesn't seem to pull from the basement (origin) to the desired room as it circumnavigates around many corners and is hidden in innaccessible places.
We don't have coax running to all rooms in our house, BUT we do have copper phone lines.
My sons (Caltech & VT), who know much about such things suggested I might connect my Coax signal where it enters our home (next to the phone junction box) to pass the signal to the phone junction box in the desired room(s). I tried twisting the cables together, and it actually works. However, the TV signal is clear on some channels but not on all. It was suggested I combine several of the six phone wires together (say Red & Green) for a better connection to purchase 2 Coax-RJ11 adapters to get a better signal. I can't find such adapters, even on eBay. Any suggestions?
This shows just how shoddy WIRED stories are fabricated and sensationalized. I can't help but take that into account in reading future WIRED stories. WIRED credibility is seriously called into question by such blatant errors which articles source denies.
As I understand the law, I think this is the way it works:
1. Foreign national (FN) gets PhD in a technical discipline in the US 2. FN automatically granted 1 additional year in the US for "Technical Training"
(during this year or before, FN can apply for an H1B visa) 3. FN obtains H1B visa (with company attorney's help) to work an unlimited time in the US at this or other related company.
4. 2 month grace period to find another stateside job (perhaps even longer).
My nephew studied at a top notch "foreign" University, McGill in Momtreal. McGill ranks right up there with Harvard & MIT according to the The Gourman Report. You may find the Gourman Report useful in selecting a university with rated computer science curricula.
However, in the long, run two things you may consider: 1. CS alone may be "not enough" for good jobs now or in the future. Consider a strong related minor or additional major (say science, business, etc. ) to boost you marketable skills. CS, like Math is a required skill for the vast majority of the best future jobs, Don't think what's past is prologue for the future. 2. The best philosophy is probably to study hard now (get 2 majors in the U.S,) and leave travel to later or summers. When you look for a job, I doubt that studying in a foreign country is likely to add much, if any. It may even raise questions as to your diligence and motivation toward your career rather than fun.
This same situation was described on the first day by a TV reporter who was also refused as he also had a special discount. This is why potential customers were asked to come by a day or so before to check their eligibility for an iPhone 3G at the discounted rate. Clearly, thos on special discounted plans were not eligible for the full discounted rate. Thisincludes you as you could have determined by checking online before. However, it's human nature to want something and overlook the details. I'm sure you can find a solution by talking with AT&T and getting a phone from them since you are thiwr customer, however, don't expect to get the $199 or $299 discounted rate unless you give up your monthly discounted rate.
