Why do people feel the need to disrespect religion? In the USA we have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. At the very least, most religious teachings are good for studying and learning from (what to do as well as what not to do). Live and let live.
I'd change the title from "Headlights That See Through Rain and Snow" to something along the lines of "Headlights that Help Drivers to See Through Rain and Snow."
About a decade ago I remember talk of radar via this same technique. AFAIK that never came to fruition. Would be interesting to see NAVSOP fully implemented but it doesn't seem very accurate.
Even with the best data in the world, weather reporters would fubar 50% of all forecasts. Individual raindrop tracking seems pointless for predicting weather anyways...
I too dislike this but it's people like Mickey Mantle, people who abuse their bodies with alchohol or drugs then get moved to the front of the transplant list, who really annoy me.
Thank God wars or acts short of war aren't horrific enough for people to call for an end to them. Thank God we don't carpet bomb cities in hopes of destroying a ball bearing factory. Thank God we don't use gas, nukes, cluster bombs, mine fields, or biological weapons. Cuz if war was hell we'd all fight to stop it. Since war is remotely controlled or at least "civil" enough for our tastes we can tolerate it. Kind of reminds me of the Star Trek episode "A Taste of Armageddon" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Taste_of_Armageddon).
Of course I don't want to see people suffer, but if wars are too clean and tidy we have no incentive to end them quickly. Drones are the worst way to execute a war...distant and clinical.
$100 degrees and the ability to download information right into our brains will devalue a degree to the point where you're punished for not having one. Then everyone will need a doctorate to stand out...until there are either $100 doctorates and/or downloadable doctoral information into the brain. Either way we're just increasing the minimum threshhold to stand out. The real money is in gathering, sifting, and publishing that information for download...then we'll also need someone to oversee that information and make sure people don't inject "viruses" like information contrary to real life experience that lead people down the wrong path. Ultimately, this is a horrible idea as governments will use this to program and control us.
That's why you don't buy software from every developer out there. There are some that have stolen and incorporated open source software within their own program and sold them, and there are other companies that include spyware or other nefarious things within a program. Luckily those are few are far between but the argument that open source software is the only way we can be sure it's safe and secure is weak. I'd bet commercial (e.g. gotta pay for it) software is generally less prone to that than open source because the company selling it has something to lose....they have skin in the game, and they are risking losing their business and being held legally liable/responsible/negligent/etc.
Just like "real" programmers still hand code machine language on punch cards...use the best tool for the job, GUI v. CLI has been done to death. I can use the CLI but I prefer a minimalist GUI to make it easier.
The HBO business model is similar to the way CDs were sold...buy a CD and get one or two good songs and a lot of crap songs as filler. HBO has the best original content but other than a few stellar shows the rest is mediocre at best. I'd love an ala cart-style HBO where I could subscribe to a show and pay for the season. Game of Thrones is on iTunes but it's posted once the season ends so it's not a great option.
I do not parrot what the media says but the timing is right for a preemptive disruption of Iran's nuclear capabilities. Sure, it could be Wall Streeters but then isn't it you who believe everything you hear in the media (e.g. Wall Street = bad, fat cats, etc.)? They can make plenty of money without this conspiracy...and the last time this was done a couple years ago it was deemed to be state sponsored, not a private company or organization. I'd rather stick to my theory than your made up theory, though yours makes a much better novel. The timing tells me enough and I still think it's good although as someone else pointed out (and as I assumed and mentioned) the attacking country would be retaliated against either via a cyber attack or a physical attack. I believe the USA stated a cyber attack on us would be considered an attack like any other and retaliated against via whatever means necessary.
I thought the previous administration's decision to attack preemptively was bold though uncalled for and will ultimately hurt the credibility of the USA but the current administration has ignored a lot of the issues of the Middle East and shunned Israel so action had to be taken while the time's right.
I personally support diplomacy and peaceful negotiations, but this I approve of because of the timing, the political landscape, and the repercussions of doing nothing.
Since Iran support/sponsors terrorists and has enough nuclear material to make an estimated five nuclear weapons (although the material may be slightly too crude to weaponize at the moment), I see no problems with this type of attack. It's not going to have much collateral damage (I doubt it would target a water plant, for example, only the nuclear facilities), it won't be heard of much in the news because it identifies a weakness, and is very hard to trace but it has the potential to slow Iranian nuclear weapons development. Looks good...what am I missing?
I'd bet the malware was developed either in Israel or the USA...probably Israel with USA support. This could create problems but I think this is a good move.
I've seen this is other products made in China and sold globally. The government has a list of electronics and manufacturers they cannot buy and cannot let into government facilities.
Unfortunately, this is the real world and not a theory. Obviously, sharing and living cooperatively would be the best for all but people all want what's best for them. Ever read the Communist Manifesto (I had to in HS) or read Animal Farm? Things always start well then some want perks then things devolve. Kind of visible in the USA right now with hand-outs being given to selected groups of people and politicians getting money from special interests (all denominations of politician).
Do you really think people can live in harmony? If so, you'll be the first to lose.
Read a little history and you'll see this type of behavior (e.g. "stealing from others") occurs with regularity. If you don't like it then please leave but I guarantee every country out there is looking for ways to better its power, influence, quality of life, income, etc. Don't be so naive.
Iran promised they only plan to use these helicopters for defensive purposes. Why does the movie Mars Attacks come to mind? "We come in peace, we mean you no harm. Pew! Pew! Pew!"
Because they see the good it can do in people's lives.

Don't headlights illuminate, not detect? Bad choice of words...
I remember they were testing with analog signals but like you I'm not sure if it was FM or TV. Thanks for the info...

Insuring them and adjudicating accidents would both be huge concerns as well.
So tell me where I can buy one of these cars you speak or? Still research / vaporware.

While KDE is solid and a very good looking GUI, I prefer LXDE as it's got 99% of the features I need and it's quick in my VM.

Maybe so but he's one of the better Democrats out there :)
You better be careful of you may get accused of racism as that's the standard Democratic come-back.

Yeah totally forgot about that evil dove..."I hate doves" (said using the voice from that bulldog that got shot down in the movie "Up").
