"That little Phrase" is all very well and good... When it works...
About 2 years back, just before the DNC list went into effect, I got a call from this company, (Selling Book club subscriptions as it was) After his greeting, Me: "Please place us on your do-not-call list" Him: "Okay sir, have a nice day" 2 weeks later, The same rep him: Hi this is so-and-so from where-ever... Me: Can I speak with your supervisor please? him: May I ask Why? Me: Because when you called 2 weeks ago, I asked to be added to your do not call list --click--, the bugger hung up on me. 1 week later, a different rep her: Hi this is so-and-so from where-ever... Me: May I speak with your supervisor please? her: Sure, please hold on a second... I have Him on the line Him: How Can I help you? me: well, about three weeks ago, I got a call from your company, I believe the rep was -name that I can't remember right now-, and I asked to be added to your do-not-call list, I then got another call from your company last week, by the same rep incidentally, and I asked to speak with a supervisor. he then hung up on me. I want to know that I won't get another phone call from you again. him: -insert profuse appologizeing here-
I don't track raw numbers, but rather, I track percentages. Since about febuary, I've been seeing a general downwards trend, but it's been very "Spikey" with changes every day
With W. Bush controlling the senate (and don't say that he doesn't... we all know that he does) all the "Loyal Oppositian" can do is fillibuster... and they 've threatened to take that away.
I don't know. The good people of Austria - one of my favourite places - certainly drink a lot. It's legal to drink at the age of 16
True for the most part... but that's not the whole story. The drinking age isn't a fixed age it's 14 for beer and wine, if it is being purchased for you by an adult it's 16 for beer and wine if you are purchasing it yourself, or for "hard" liquior if it is purchased for you by an adult it's 18 for all forms if you're purchasing it yourself except as noted above.
That being said... if you can reach the bar to put down the money, they'll mostly serve you.
No, no, no, It's part of a quote from a Larry Niven Book, "FootFall" "Nuke them from orbit until they glow in the dark, and then shoot them in the dark!"
As A "Company Geek" one thing I think any self-respecting geek should do, is keep an updated list on file with the boss (doubly so if you are a contractor) of the "This is how you get rid of me" files This includes All accounts that you have a password to Any keys for files that might be encrypted instructions on how to change passwords and decrypt files locations for important files.
it makes the PHB much happier knowing that if he/she needs to get rid of you, they don't have to worry about it
Of course, make sure that the list is honest, and complete.
Look for the posters that are required by law to be "posted conspiciously in a location easily accessable by all employees" both for the Federal, and the State requirements. for example, in Maine # Employers must pay wages to employees on an established day or date at regular intervals not to exceed 16 days. # Employees must be paid for the work performed. Employees who leave a job must be paid in full within a reasonable time. # Employers cannot deduct from an employee's pay for things such as broken merchandise or bills not paid by customers.
they may have taken out find-as-you-type, but they replaced it with something better IMHO. more than once I had found myself typing in a FF window by accident (My Thinkpad TrackPoint drifts sometimes) now, like in less, just type '/' followed by whatever you want to look for. it works just the same as find-as-you-type, but you have to trigger it with a single key-stroke
Ob: views expressed are my own, and do not express the views and/or opinions of Movie Gallery I work for Movie Gallery, and the details about the mentioned Class Action suit are as follows: BB was sued becuase late fees for $RENTAL_PERIOD were >> $INITIAL_RENTAL_PRICE The setlement was as follows: depending on either a) how long a customer has been an account holder or b) how much they had paid in late fees (I can't remember the details right now) they had to be handed a sheet of coupons for free/discounted rentals and BB had to switch over to a "renewal Late fee policy" IE, your movie is late, it has re-rented to you for an additional $RENTAL_PERIOD and you owe us another $INITIAL_RENTAL_PRICE.
Movie Gallery then proactivly went to the court, and pretty much said "If we agree to abide by this settlement, can we get protection so that we can't be sued for the same thing" the answer was yes.
That is the current state of "Extended Viewing fees" at MG. Now that being said we still have people complain when we call them to let them know that the movie has been re-rented to them, and pepole are constantly asking if we are going to get rid of late fees. Also MG's movies are due back by closing... If you can walk the movie into the store on the day it's due... it's not late. I can't speak for other stores, but I know that at my store, we make bloody well sure to let every new member know about a) when movies are due back, b) our re-rental policy c) re-iterate that if it's dropped off in the overnight drop box after closing on the day that it's due, it's late
Yes, if a movie is kept out for 3 additional rental-periods, we write it off, and charge them the [Used] price to replace the movie, but by that time, we've attempted to call them at least 3 times (we try not to annoy people to much with out phone calls)
Actually... and this is a psudo-serious comment, they should not have gotten letter grades: 1 Did not meet standards 2 Partially meets standards 3 Meets standards 4 Exceeds standards
this being what NCLB (No Child Left Behind) says teachers have to grade on now
ob: I work for A video/game rental chain, the views expressed here are soley my own, and do not reflect the views or opinions of the staff or management of said chain
With titles such as GTA:SA, or Halo2, etc. M titles make up much more than 18% of titles sold at my store. Part of the problem is parents: "Have you played this before?" Kid: "Yes, I played it at Johnnies" parent: "and his mom is okay with that?" kid: "Yup" Most parents don't ever look at the game, they rely soley on the word of their kid that it's okay. I have had parent buy GTA:SA for their 9 year olds, even after my warning about content.
Also, the M rated games (or the T rated games that must have somehow found a loophole in the M-rating) are the ones that are advertised the most (out doing even the yearly Madden NFL games)
