Worse, the US Air Force's "golden handcuffs". I don't see a lot of solar energy engineering opportunities here, either. Most of the engineering already has been done, with incremental improvements to come. The real problem I see (in the USA) is cost due to regulatory red tape.
Vehicle engineering is just about all metric. Electrical was never imperial. Except for "radar miles", which are 6000 feet (nautical miles), but disappearing as time goes on.
I've worked in the defense sector since 1968, but I would rather be designing solar equipment instead. It might be more productive to reduce our reliance on war by being energy independent. A few of those millions of defense workers could do it.
The problem we had was getting pinch rollers that hadn't turned into the goo that old plastic foam does. We finally found a junk collector who had one, burned all our tapes onto hard drives, and chucked the big HP tape transport into the dumpster with a satisfying THUD.
Me too, but that was 1970. Lately I've been to a couple campuses, and.... holy cow. Things have changed. Don't 'Muricans study EE any more, or are they all Women's Studies and Basket Weaving?
Terrible cartoon, and the short feature article wasn't much better. I guess we have to find the full report, somewhere. https://www.nasa.gov/feature/g...
Driving to Toronto or Montreal is popular in central NY, where fares from Syracuse to anywhere are ridiculous. Or, go to Ottawa and see a national capitol that's clean. But the flights out are limited.
Yes, those "old" PCs will run Linux just fine. No need to throw them out.
I'm writing this on my newest PC, 7 years old. Runs Ubuntu MATE and Mint Cinnamon.
If I want to hear from an asshole I'll just fart.

I can sleep for 8 hours stretched out and comfortable, vs. 4 hours sardine-mode? There's no comparison.

Finally, a use for all those Windows phones.
You mean like phones?
If your solution is not "Let me install your favorite distro of Linux for you" you're part of the problem.
Hint: there are free OSes out there that stay current, are safer, and will run your "old" machine for years to come. Try one.

Better: "Is Betteridge's Law False?"
Scammers first! "Legitimate" telemarketers second. Politicians next. Then the charities. All can rot in hell.
How else could they have produced 82 episodes of "The Incredible Hulk"? IBM 360, I'm thinking.
Oh, and the US is a Republic, not a Democracy. . .
And by that you mean oligarchy.
Well, there are many more roads in Toronto, but that doesn't help because they are always filled with cars.
Carry 2 flash drives. One has all the data you need for the meeting, the other is a Linux distro you boot the borrowed PC off of.
John 14:2..... "In my father's house are many mansions..."
Too bad because the idea was seriously cool
I see what you did there.
Terrible cartoon, and the short feature article wasn't much better. I guess we have to find the full report, somewhere.

Ten winters in central NY. That's it. Mileage is immaterial.
Because you don't run Linux.
Meetings in the flesh are overrated.
