if it gets stuck back in the sand tomorrow? It sorta would, in that schadenfreude way.

Anyway, I hope it doesn't, and props to the team for not giving up on it.

I totally agree with you, although the common perception seems to be that making more money is in fact "promoting the progress of the arts and sciences." Maybe somebody could prove that's not true. In court. That'd be nice.

I can't believe I'm replying to myself about this, but it's just really bad. It's got to be the absolute worst script/screenplay in a major Hollywood film. Schwarzenegger may not be the best actor around, but "Batman and Robin" made HIM look bad. That's gotta be saying something. Ugh. Horrible, horrible.

Well, this is a subscription-based service. It isn't just about box sales, it's about keeping customers. They don't fix these problems, they lose a (continually!) paying customer and get a bad reputation on top of that. So I don't think it's totally motivated by goodwill towards players, though they certainly want their customers to be happy.

  19. Re:Union Now on EA Spouse Posts Plans for Watchdog Organ · · Score: 1

I don't agree. Unions may solve that problem in the short term, but all it does is encourage companies to not even set up shop in the US because they don't want to deal with unions. Plus, unions are as prone to corruption as a corporation. They encourage a separation between the worker and the company, promote ill-will and don't encourage quality work. In a union, it's all about how the company is screwing you over and that the union lets you get what you deserve. That's it. Doing a good job gets lost in all the crap that comes with it.

That being said, I agree there is a problem, and I definitely agree EA and many other software companies abuse their employees. It's a big issue out there, but unions are not the answer.

Does the end justify the crapiness of the beginning? That's a matter of opinion, but for me it doesn't. That even kept me from playing through all of Quake 2. It kept me from getting through all of the Doom 3 demo. Same old, stupid hidden compartment tricks. It looks damn pretty, but I'm not gonna put up with that other crap just to get to later levels.
