It's not MST3k's fault... they did the best they could with the source material that they chose. (Why they chose it is another matter altogether. Maybe it was a slow week for them or something.) Rather, the fault lies with the original movie. It's an utter piece of crap. Manos: the Hands of Fate is something that is so poorly written, so poorly directed, and so poorly produced that not even MST3k can save it and make it funny.
Didn't I read abou this in Neal Stephenson's "The Diamond Age"?
welcome to the next generation, i guess... although even with this kind of thing people are still social animals, and thus will desire the human interaction that other posters think will be missing. imo, they need not worry.
what about cases where the government itself is prosecuting the defendant, yet has the legal right to all communication between the defendant and his lawyer?
i'm surprised that we haven't seen lawyers up in arms over this yet.
"According to a recent Washington Post article, there are more than a half million Americans wandering around the country with outstanding arrest warrants. That's ten times the adult population of the country I'm in, so forgive me for saying it sounds like a lot of criminals."
the thing is, if you get a speeding ticket (moving violation), and don't pay it or appear in court on or by the date listed on the ticket then you get a warrant sworn out against you. so, considering how easy it is to get a warrant for your arrest placed out there, is half a million out of 250 million or so really surprising? i'd say it's surprising there's not more...
maybe this is where the 'engineer' requirements etc should come from for "software engineers"...
(think of civil engineers or mechanical engineers and all the checking and whatnot they have to do...)
From now on, stop trying to be clever and/or witty on the front page. Just summarize the article like you're supposed to.
In return, I will stop trying to post clever and/or witty things as well. Which is just as well, because it doesn't appear to be working for either of us anyway.
shit, if shooting greedo first makes one cold-blooded, then most people would be cold-blooded in such a situation.
imo cold-blooded is killing someone who doesn't need to be killed. in han's situation, it was kill or be killed. that's not cold-blooded, that's survival.
"When you get children with skull fractures and concussions, you've got serious injuries," said CPSC Chairman Ann Brown. "We're lucky no child died, they didn't get hit the wrong way. But we got them off the market and we now have to get them out of people's homes."
I agree, we need to hit those children the right way, and get them out of peoples' homes. *grin*
For those languages such as Spanish, French, or German that have only a few more extra letters than English: do they use "american" (standard qwerty) keyboards and change the keyboard layout combos to support the additional characters, or are there actual keyboards with extra keys for those languages? One would think that for a language with, say, six extra letters, a 110-key keyboard wouldn't be a significant change from a 104-key keyboard... right?
"Finally, for all you sysadmins and security experts out there, how would you like it if politicians with no computer knowledge whatsoever were second-guessing all your security decisions, while making sure you'd still take the fall if anything went wrong?"
This happens daily already. It's called middle management.
I was wondering the same thing myself: why a company that apparently does radio shows would care if Napster encouraged CD sales, and what (if anything) that has to do with gratitude and/or RIAA. It makes one wonder if the editor read the link at all.
Maybe he just understood the way the universe works better than anybody else.

yeah... i went to see Akira in the theatre one time... it was a subtitled version, which i was like 'cool...' cause animes are generally better with original audio and subtitles... but this one sucked ASS... the translation for the subtitles was AWFUL. i was at this point very used to the english dubbed dialogue, and could compare/contrast it as i watched it... fans of different things will probably say that the translation for the dubbed version was bad, but just think that if the dubbed translation is bad, how bad does this subtitled version have to be? heh. in any case, if there is a subtitled translated version of akira out there that features a *coherent* translation for the subtitles i'm all for it. i don't speak japanese, so i couldn't really contrast the original audio to the english dub to the english subtitles, but one can hope that someone will do a first-rate translation somewhere along the line.
yeah, well, that's the idea...
put all your eggs in one basket... and then WATCH THAT BASKET!!!

I love the title of the article, "MSDN Subscriber Forced to use Passport". It just begs to have "Oh, the Humanity!" placed right after it.

It'd be almost the same, except all the goatse.cx links would be unlinked.
