Perhaps Apple just envisions a world where operating system choice can be decided in bizarre martial-arts-esque battles.
'My Flying-Monkey-Crane will defeat your Prancing-Snow-Tiger!!!', and such. It would sure make big chain computer sales departments more enjoyable to visit.
I remember early VR systems. One big problem they had was that virtual worlds were of such poor quality that having it all around your head really didn't provide any benefit. With this problem unsolved it never surprised me that VR technology hadn't progressed much in the last two decades.
Now we are starting to see virtual worlds reaching levels of detail that are almost passable as real. It makes a lot of sense to start looking at VR now, if you believe that real level of detail is achievable in 5-10 years, and you hope to innovate in the VR field in a similar time-frame.
You have no idea how awesome. I was exposed to Bill Nye in school and thought it was OK. Maybe better then actual class. Much later I moved to Seattle and started watching Almost Live! reruns, only to find out that Bill Nye was nothing but a sketch comedy gag that he ran with all the way to legitimacy. It blew my mind.
If there's one thing EVE Online demonstrated it's that within 1-2 years an even bigger Ponzi scheme is comming.
The people that learn their lesson quit, leaving a new batch of sheep.
You've got to shift your viewpoint a little if you want to understand what's going on around you. The idea that free speech is the most holy ideal is rubbish. Naturally people generally don't want the government to have the power to suppress political speech and the like, but at some point you have to decide things like if it's reasonable to have some right to privacy (like in your own home), and how far these other rights extend when in conflict with each other.
This kid chose to reach out into a public place to harass and intimidate someone. If you allow people to be chased out of public light by intimidation and harassment then you wind up with less freedom, as your personal freedoms to pursue things like sports are hindered by those who would hide behind free speech.
I googled 'Joining fight against drug cartels' as Slashdot suggested me to and it just brought me a link to slashdot telling me to google joining fight against drug cartels. I'm stuck.
Nuclear power will only do serious damage to the environment if mistakes are made. Fossil fuels will damage the environment no matter what. I wonder if there is any logic behind Japan's decision or if this is just some politicians cashing in on public fear.
My kids went through a stage where they were fighting with each other all of the time. An occasional feud makes sense, but it was suddenly multiple times per day. The problem, I found, was that I would suddenly sweep in and give them both a surplus of attention to settle the dispute before things got out of hand. So now I pretty much ignore any fighting and remove the incentive. They figured out on their own that fighting won't really help settle their differences, anyway.
Seems to me that this is pretty much the same thing.
I wonder if this vaccine would also negate pain-killers like morphine? I'd hate to see people use this vaccine and then develop some really terrible disease later in life and the best they can do to cope with the pain is take tylenol.
Great rant but you failed at occam's razor. All this crap about nazi scientists and plotting war and squandered female tech skills just obfuscates the simple (and touched upon) and direct answer. Europe's production capacity was destroyed, and there was nowhere else in the world capable of mass producing industrial goods.

I'm really impressed with Valve right now.
Yes, clearly this article is... sub-standard.

Don't be fooled, all TV wrestling is fake.

I thought water pipes were illegal to sell in most states now.
If someone comes into a theater holding a gun to people you should not yell 'Fire' !
Vote Google King of Australia!

Perhaps they would just see it as an attempt at communication, and in good faith they would fire a laser right back at us.
Was apple evil back then? Or did that only happen later?

That this is also an economic boon for Oakland.
First a New York judge rules that IP addresses are insufficient for copyright cases, now this? I'm proud of you, New York!

Just a few years after TV and the internet go away.
I thought about modding this comment down but then I realized almost nobody would see the joke.

The alternative to looking forward to 2012 is looking back to 2012, which hardly seems appropriate seeing as we are only one week into the year.
That's exactly right. If your projectiles don't make contact then what's the point?
So the Star Trek prediction where computers of the future seem to be full of brightly lit crystals may have been accurate?
The press conference where he informs the country that their settlers were attacked by Indian spearmen would be golden.
