Its been my experience that about 10-20% of the people I had my credit card to actually look at and read the signature on my credit card. I have "PLEASE SEE ID" written in that box and it would be a stretch to say that more than 1 out of 5 purchases result in the person asking for my ID.
Often times the cashier will flip it over and look at it, but won't bother to ask for my ID. I partially do this to see if they will ask for my ID. I hope that if I ever lose my wallet and someone tries to use my credit card that they get that 1 out of 5 that actually asks for the ID.
I also make an effort to thank the people that actually do ask for my ID.
The slingbox acts like a remote TV attached to your DVR.
A simple way to answer your question is for me to ask you another question:
Can you Tivo output to two different TVs at one time?
If you answer yes to this, then you could, in theory, setup the slingbox to be one of those TVs and then you could have two TVs showing two different programs at once. I have a feeling that is not the case. Which would mean that if someone was home the same program would be showing on box 'TVs' at the same time.
I have a single tuner ReplayTV at home and I have not bothered to setup my slingbox to control my ReplayTV because I really only want to use the Slingbox to watch live content. If its stored on my RTV, then I can wait until I get home to watch it.
I just got my slingbox from woot for $74.99 shipped. Even if I was only pay $12/hour to setup and configure a linux machine to do what the slingbox does, it would definetly take me more than 6 hours to get it working as well as the slingbox does. (Its working on my brother's Treo).
I value my time at much more than $12/hr... buying the slingbox and going the route of the slingbox is a much better solution than the DIY linux solution, even at $120 MSRP its a better deal.
It will be interesting to see how the ergonomic of the mouse feels.
Ergonomics, what ergonomics? The thing is the size and shape of a business card, I can't see how holding a stack of business cards is even remotely comfortable in my hand. (Even though they have contoured the shape slightly)
"unless someone physically demagnitizes it or deguasses it."
How about accidently demagnitizing it? I am constantly destroying my hotel keys because of the magnet in my money clip. I have to *TRY* to remember to put the hotel key in the opposite pocket, but I usually kill at least one card during each hotel stay.
At least I can now feel better about handing the keys back at checkout, just make sure I pass them over my money clip first.
That sounds like a cyber-cafe and not a coffee shop (w/ complimentary internet access to check your email). They obviously want a coffee shop feel, not a cyber-cafe feel.
Then you would have that SOB buying a pack of gum for $0.99 every 2 hours. I completly agree with this decision based on their rationale. They are not providing the wireless for people to sit there and take up space by themself for 4 hours (w/ or w/out a coffee purchase).
They wanted to facilitate a more enjoyable coffee shop experience and they realized that wifi on the weekend was taking away from that atmosphere.
"The service is only available to broadband subscribers."
I read the FAQ and it said it is doubtful that the Google Web Accelerator will have any affect on dialup connections as it was designed for broadband. It doesn't say that it is not available for dialup users. Sounds like a hurried article to grab some headlines.
I typed that code (007-373-5963) into Tyson's Punchout so many times, I still remember it to this day. I bet none of those kids will remember the cheat codes to their games in 20 years.
"This device automatically parks the car, maneuvering the Prius backward and into the space. To activate it, the driver first pulls alongside the forward vehicle, then drags a picture of a flag marker and parking triangle on the car's touchscreen display, until they are positioned where the vehicle should wind up."
Moral of the story: I need to back up my phone once in a while. Whodathunkit?
I had to create some extra users on my powerbook, so I could have the new address book/iSync capabilities to back up my brother's phone and my fiancee's phone when they switched from AT&T to Verizon. The old AT&T phone was a motorola v60 and the new phone was the t720c from Verizon, thanks to the USB cable and iSync.
ReplayTV crossed a line, and they kind of asked for it, and they were put out of business.
That really wasn't how it happened was it?
I have a ReplayTv, labelled as such, it still works fine, skips commercials and I can still buy one just like it. Thanks to DNNA, who bought out the subscriber base of RTV users. They even off excellent CS.
If thats all you are worried about, keep an old cell phone on a charger. Any cell phone, regardless of its service status has to be able to still call 911. Which is some FCC law/statue/rule/whatever.
"I think it turned out that the accelerator and brake were too close together and people were hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake."
You are correct, that is exactly what was happening. Audi went ahead and made the stupid move to put more distance between the gas pedal and the brake pedal for the idiots over here in the US that have fat asses and feet.

Thats neat, however opte.org is working on realtime maps of the internet.
Whats the over/under on this? 1 week?
I'll take the under.

Started messing around and some things require root, so who wants to figure out the passwd for everyone?

If you can get out to the internet via your cable modem, VoIP/vonage would be fine, too.
Assuming you are not trying to call out on a cordless phone which has a base that isn't plugged into the UPS.
