"maybe I'm misinformed, but don't you have to "hack" the Tivo to get this functionality?"
No you are correct, you have to hack the TiVO to be able to do this. There are about a thousand other things you can also do with tivo that is available via a hack.
"LapLogic specializes in Laptop Desks & LapPads that provide up to 57F protection from laptop heat without increasing CPU temperatures. In fact, with our Traveler LapPads, your CPU will actually run cooler! "
If the heat is "bounced back" into the laptop, how is the CPU running cooler?
"What's the point of an 'internet wiretap' when anything important to law enforcement is probably encrypted with a key long enough to take years to crack? Am I the only person who has 4096-bit RSA?"

That is assuming their isn't some backdoor written into that encryption software that would let the gubermint easily decode your heroine habit with some "master key."
"The only thing they left out of their experiment was that they never actually hit the talk button. It may be a minor thing but it was definitely overlooked."
Well you appearantly overlooked the fact that this current story is about a guy w/ a flip phone who never pushed his talk button either:
"when when he flipped open his cell phone to answer a call."
" this is also the origin of "on the wagon" as one of the guards travelling with the prisoner was not allowed to enter the pubs with him. So couldn't drink, and had to stay on the wagon."
I followed your link to "The Idler" and that site tells a different tale about the origin of "on the wagon," quoted below: -- "Incidentally this also is the origin of 'on the wagon', after finishing his drink from the last tavern before the gallows, the prisoner would be put 'on the wagon' for the last time, destined never to drink again before his death."
Apple has denied that there will be any price increase, and furthermore, they are in multi-year contracts with the different record labels such that the price is locked at $0.99 for at least a couple more years.
Which is why my powerbook battery lasts so damn long. One of the many reasons I am using it now more often than any windows-based laptop I have ever owned and/or used.
Don't bother arguing speed, saying that the powerbook is years behind in MHz, etc. The powerbook is just better optimized to use less power and run longer.
Look at your keyboard cable. This device is a hardware device that sits between your keyboard connector and the socket on the back of the PC. About the size of a ps/2-to-USB adapter.
Speaking of which, that would be a great way to hide this little device. Make it a PS/2 to USB adapter with the KeyKatcher built in.
I believe the HAA would be used over the US in friendly skies. We have other systems that monitor aircraft and keep those type of planes far, far away from us.
I do see a problem with this thing if they were to use it overseas in unfriendly airspace. For the reason you state.
As a positive side effect, Open relays would be fixed pronto... for many admins would fear for their manhood...
Laugh, it's a joke!;)
Thats not funny. It sounds reasonable to me and I was actually enjoying the idea that these schmucks emailing me would be missing something down there because of it.
All kidding aside, I wonder how many/. readers' SSIDs are in that netstumbler log, and I wonder how many are afraid to reply and say so since their GPS coords are associatated to their SSID.
What you get in exchange for the lock-in contract is a piece of property for less than the actual cost of making it. Most carriers will let you buy the phone outright and not have a lock-in clause, but you'll pay $150-$200 more for the phone... which is essentially paying the penality fee right up front!
What I want to do though is buy an unlocked GSM phone on the internet. And then switch from my current AT&T TDMA plan to the T-Mobile GSM plan (with the new unlocked phone). Because I am not buying a phone from them I shouldn't have to sign a contract. However, T-Mobile just told me on the phone that I *have* to sign a contract even if I provide my own phone.
I do not want to spend the extra money on their "full price" locked phone that can only be used with their service, or requires some silly unlocking procedure that may or may not work.
I bet this VIP is trying to keep up with them damn, rich, cool yet geeky Jones' who laugh at him while he takes his Aibo for a stroll while riding his Segway. Like, that Segway is so 3 months ago and the Aibo, OH MY GOD -- its like, ancient.
You can use this image if you want. I made this screenshot yesterday.

Here is the atom icon: I happened to post to another place about this. I have a screen shot as well, but that's kinda useless:

It'll only take you 4 days instead of 12 to ddwnload.
At least there will be a couple days where we can play with little or no people with crappy pings.

I managed to download the 4.1gb DVD version, but I don't have a DVD writer, nor do I have a DVD-ROM on my existing linux server.
.torrent with the CD version
I then realized that the CD version was also on usenet, as you can see HERE. Unfortunately, those files are no longer on my news provider (easynews).
I am hoping someone will post a

Good News you don't have to die.

Contracts do suck!/b
Too bad their "employment" page is broken. I guess they need a new web admin and new PR people.

Its my dedicated IRC shell machine, running Redhat 5.2
I know it needs to be updated, but I don't care.
