Here in the US, the social security number (and other *very* insecure methods) are already used as identification. (even though it's illegal)
It's way too easy to impersonate me right now. I'd like a smart card with a pin/biometric setup.
If you're reasons for not wanting an national ID are because the government will accumulate massive amounts of data about you, news flash: it's too late. They're already doing it. I'd rather they do it in a secure manner.
An insider threat would only need to plug the iPod into a computer's USB port....not only that, the threat would have to have access to said files. Granted, it's an insider threat, but I fail to see the significance here.
Isn't this just: 1. Search for files containing "Confidential" or "sensitive" or "budget" or "payroll" 2. Copy to iPod
? Because I can do that pretty easily and more accurately than software.
Also, why the hell does everything have to have "pod" in the name? Now it's cool? Why can't people coin cool terms anymore??
A large number of problems with viruses/spyware/etc involve the fact that users click on the wrong things, not an unpatched or poorly designed OS.
No matter how secure the OS is, virus protection is still required to protect users from themselves.
Not only that, OneCare (I'm using it right now) has a VERY slick backup thing, and it's very easy to use--almost good enough for grandma. It recognizes quicken files as "financial records," for instance.
Interestingly enough, Microsoft has had people known as "Evangelists" for certain technologies for a long time. I didn't realize other companies were using this job title.
It describes the job very well, but it's strange nonetheless.
Treos are licensed to use MS's Exchange server ActiveSync, the same thing the Windows-based phones use, and the same thing that is being upgraded to Direct Push.
And there's always IMAP.

Sure, I'll make sure to raise hell the next time the pharmacy tells me "either it's your SSN or you stay sick."
My point is that we already have a national ID system, it's just horribly insecure and there are many points of failure. Might as well upgrade.

Give him a break.
If Viiv rhymes with five and live, then why shouldn't Wii sound like why?
These marketing people and their double i's.
Thats just the problem - no new features compelling people to upgrade from office 2000 (or 97 for that matter)
Have you seen Office 2007? They actually tried this time. It has new features, and it's actually way better to use.
It's tradition!
Perhaps the threshold is a percentile for the company...
In this case, I think a $6,000 payment to JC Penny (a department store) is quite unusual.
Now, to figure out who's laundering money through JC Penny...

They can do that, but then you'll simply see less rebates, because then all rebates would get honored, not just some.
Thanks to mail-in rebates, those of us who aren't too lazy or stupid to fill them out will save more than everyone else.
However, the words after the semicolon in that sentance do not form a clause.

Way off.
It's completely uninstallable, as it comes in update.exe form, like any other Windows Update.
MSDN Subscribers can see the beta.
Umm, that's what it's meant for...
I'm glad that's a coralized link, because it could be down otherwise.
Have you ever read their website? They encourage the use of their service...
That article says that MS could flex their patent muscle.
It is NOT an example of a time that they have done so. All speculation.

That's 'cause the smart ones don't get caught.
That's what MS Small Business Server 2003 is for.
AD, Exchange, SQL, etc on 1 box, supported.
Though you're referring to the wrong metric...
Adobe Reader 7.0 also sneaks Yahoo! Toolbar in.
That's in Cuba, silly. :)
No, this is not obligatory. You chose to continue the trend...
*sigh* oh slashdot...
Yeah, but at the time, we all hated what a portal was.
I don't mind what they've got.
Plus, the default "www.google.com" will probably not change much.
Ditto. I even do fancy color coding. It syncs with Exchange 2003, which allows for an always up to day copy on the web and on my pocket PC phone.
MS did Exchange 2003/Outlook 2003 right.

Simpsons are finishing up season 16 now, FYI. :)
They are contracted through another 1 or 2 seasons, and they are contracted through 2010 for syndication.
Please correct me if I'm wrong...
people who have lost eyes, or through macular degeneration, will be able to regain some of their lost visual freedom.
Not if the optic nerve has been severed and they have a prosthetic eye. The retina must still be in place as well.
There is almost no point in having people who have lost one eye do this anyways. Living with one eye is not that bad.
Macular degeneration is where this really counts.
Agreed.
Some pianists read music without looking entirely. In fact, it could be said that typing while not looking is harder. We all do that, right?
