Can't you still earn trophies offline and just have them sync back up once the PSN is back online? (I have a PS3 but I haven't played it for a while - I decided to clear out some of my 360 backlog and I can't remember if I've ever unlocked trophies offline.)
On top of that, if you have an account with Amazon, you can buy Microsoft Points (for Xbox 360) or Playstation Network Cards and they will just send you the code that you can redeem on the console (or through the web interface for your account).
Of course they are! The only thing that out numbers Slashdot community member's tin foil hats is their feeling of superiority and smugness! (I'm only half joking)
As an owner of both the PS3 and 360, I called my bank and canceled my card last week, just in case. What really irratates me is that, at least through the web interface, you can not remove your credit card information from Microsoft's billing services - at least with an active Live Gold membership (depsite the fact the Live Gold account is already paid for)
While I've been keeping a close eye on my online credit card statement and everything looks legit, I did call my bank and have the card that's tied to my PSN account canceled. I figured being without a credit card for a week is probably better than some of the possible alternatives.
I'm not so sure on the proxy caches, but where I work, we run 3 e-comm web servers (which run multiple sites) sitting behind a Kemp Load Master (two actually, for failover) and we don't seem to have any issues regarding SSL (which is mandatory for user logins and checkouts).
Buck Murdock: Oh, cut the bleeding heart crap will ya? We've all got our switches, lights, and knobs to deal with, Striker. I mean, down here there are literally hundreds and thousands of blinking, beeping, and flashing lights, blinking, beeping and flashing - they're flashing and they're beeping. I can't stand it anymore! They're blinking and beeping and flashing! Why doesn't somebody pull the plug?
I think combat, especially in the later levels, was the biggest let down to be honest. If they scaled that back a bunch or made it almost pure free running, I think I would have loved the game a lot more than I did.t
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 as well as Final Fight: Double Impact are downloadable games bought on the Playstation Network so there is no box. I think for most people who buy the game it will be a non-issue but I still think that there is no reason why game should require internet access for single player (or local multiplayer) modes.
The newer version of Google Maps, at least for Android, can cache your route information and route data so if your Internet connection goes down, you still have route information available.

Hmm, my Xen Dom-Us would disagree.
..or buying games used.

Microsoft Explorer? Really? It's Internet Explorer (not to be confused with plain Explorer, the default shell/file management tool in Windows.)
/., and It's starting to bug me.
I hate to sound like a troll, but I've seen this a few times here on
Attachmate's Australian? Hmm, could make Brainshare more interesting.
I'm about half way through and I'll have to admit, it's good, but it's a slooooowww start.

But are you allowed to access gmail in such a classified facility?
I've never had an issue with it on my machine and it's not exactly top of the line: 1.8Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB of RAM, GeForce 7300, Ubuntu 10.10

I'm envisioning the newest feature for Google Goggles...
I found an article aboue it on El Reg, for those who are interested: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02/12/google_de_facto_internet_gateway/
Considering that it's the Daily Mail, it's quite believable.
That assumes, of course, that the information that you use for security questions is accurate.
Sony lets developers use USB keyboards and mice - it's just that nobody ever does. UT3 for PS3 had full KB+M support.
A la Airplane 2?
