Ah..the truth reveiled! All these fuckers really want is to set everybody up for a revamp to the DMCA and possibly introduce another bill that will protect their scam. Bend over and grab your "copy protection" Jack cause I got a big fat "Fair Use Policy" that I'm about to ram up your ass you weathered old piece of crap!
Microsoft is trying to implement DVD chapter navigation outisde of the DVD. Are you going to blame them for trying to add features to their products?
Is DVD chapter navigation a needed or useful feature? I'm sure if we ask MS, they will respond with their usual "our customers ASKED us for this feature" response the same way that ALLLL of those customers really, REALLY wanted Product Activation. Sorry, but given MS's track record, this little "feature" will probably be used for their continued little monopoly purposes. Remember, they are trying become the center of your Home Entertainment because after all, thats where the REALLY big dollars are at. If they can show the MPAA and RIAA that they can control what you listen, watch and jack off to, then they out themselves in a very sweet position of becoming THE defacto OS for your next PVR, CD player, DVD player, etc. All it would take is one little service pack to enable that "only a local CDDB" to start being transmitted for complete tracking purposes. And no doubt, you will have given them the right to do it through one of those oh-so-readable click thru EULAs.
"The recreators have made some slight concessions to safety." Bah! If you're going to recreate it, recreate it all the way including the "risks" If you're afraid of cracking your head open, wear a helmut!
I find it a personal offense that this BITCH instantly assumes that I use my CD-R to burn music that I have downloaded from the internet! In fact, I do NOT use my CD-R to burn MP3s! I use it to back up my war3z from my HD to make SPACE for those damn MP3s that are being ripped at 320! Damn those fucking pirates!!
To quote RATM again:
Fuck you I wont do what you tell me! Fuck you I wont do what you tell me! Fuck you I wont do what you tell me! Fuck you I wont do what you tell me! guitar riff MOTHERFUCKERS!! UNG! UNG! UNG!
This one will too someday. I hope to live long enough to see it but if not, I'm sure that the parties responsible for all of the lies, greed and hubris will pay for it in the end. As John Lennon put it, "Instant Karma's gonna get youuuuu."
As far as the measures being taken by the RIAA in order to block my rights to time shift music that I purchase, to quote Rage Against The Machine:

Here's a name change that won't "confuse" the end user: FUCKUAOL Sounds foreign enough to not even sound like anything AOL related yet distinctive enough that users will recognize it for what it is. Yeesh! I swear, Corp. American needs to start using it's money in a more productive way. I got it! How about instead of hiring some pimp ass sleazebag in a suit to send threatening letters to programmers that in no WAY can actually threaten your product, you do something useful like help the local shelters in the Dulles, VA area. Oh wait...there's no profit to be made there. Nevermind.
Look at it this way, Czarny....you'll be able to afford it when (and if) you graduate. It'll give you something to look forward to. There's also, Christmas, Your Birthday, etc. Laughter is one of the most important parts of living. And investing in something that makes you laugh in this format is well worth it. Have you ever seen the very 1st Simpsons Halloween Special? One of the most creative and hysterical pieces of comedy written for the small screen. These box sets are going to rule. Now if WB would release a box set of Bugs Bunny...woof!
1) The RIAA for their endless pursuit of Justice and the American Way.
2) To Hillary for being such a caring and loving human being when it comes to protecting the rights of "artists".
3) The legion of lobbyists for pursuing our Congressmen and showing them that "this is the right thing for the American people"
..and finally to the entire American Congress for passing one of the broadest, most unfucking believable pieces of crap legislation (DMCA) I have seen in a LONG time and essentially selling out the American public to Corporate America. Thanks. I feel like a better American now that I have these types of laws protecting my rights.
Wow...it's really nice to see that Bob Heatherly, the head of Music City Records is such a caring humanitarian. That fact that he REALLY cares about those starving artists is really touching. Nevermind the fact that his profit margin is dropping like a rock because no one wants to pay for an overpriced cd. It's actually quite encouraging to see that unsatisfied music customers aren't just "students and geeks" like some moron once wrote in an article. Country music is a HUGE business and it looks like the folkes that listen to it are just as pissed off about the prices as Joe Computer is. It all boils down to inflated cd prices (and no, we aren't cheapskates...just look at how much we spend on hardware) were music is concerned. The music and movie companies have done a great job convincing the media that we pirate EVERYTHING..when the truth is that most people don't have the time, bandwidth or desire to pirate music, movies etc. even WITH the widespread deployment of Cable and DSL. Do I want to sit here and download a divx movie of a DVD that I can pick up for $15 and watch it on my 36" tv as oppose to my 17" monitor? No, that's just foolish. Do I download a hit single mp3 instead of spending my hard earned cash on a cd that's not really worth it? Yes. If I want just one song, that's all I want to pay for.
This entire cd protection scheme goes back to one thing and one thing alone: control. The industry wants to regain the control that they had prior to mp3s and the internet so that they can continue to screw over the consumer. Why aren't the record companies going after the factories overseas that are mass producing their "art" and selling it on the streets of Hong Kong, LA, NYC, etc. The answer is simple: It's cheaper to buy a law here and enforce it than in any other country. We are being sold out daily and the unfortunate truth is that until it hits Joe Sixpack in the wallet, they won't care about it.
Absolutly $0.00! "How is that possible!?" you ask? Well, for starters, we don't run any of the usual suspects that allow for virus proliferation like Outlook, Word, Exchange, etc. Second, a long time ago we installed AV software on EVERY machine that walks out the door and we update the dat files weekly. Also, a very handy little trick is to associate VBS with Notepad. It's amazing how nice that script looks in plain text;)
..and here I was going to rush out and spend oodles of $$ to buy one along with some of that stellar RAMBUS ram so that I can surf the web faster since it's suppose to handle media sooo much better than my P3...right?;) Personally, I can wait for the dual Athlon boards.
I wonder if Mr. Shaprio would feel the same way if someone installed Office 2000 on one of their machines. I'm sure they would be more than willing to allow for that infraction. Give me a break, Jeff. Buy a clue and do your homeowrk before you ban anything and fire the individual responsible. Dumbass.
According to sources (and from personal experiance) the @home irc server has been permanently removed from Efnet thanks to all the script kiddies with cable modem access launching attacks and the @home domain has been perm banned from most of the remaining servers. Thanks again, kidz.
True, but the Visor uses the PalmOS too. So, the question is, will Handspring also charge for an "upgrade" to their version of the OS? Granted, they apparently do customize the copy that they have licensed from Palm. I've been looking at buying a Visor but, I'm still shopping around. I think the "gameboy" style modules are a pretty cool idea. We'll see...
While I personally prefer the feel of a "real" book, I have come to find a great advantage in ebooks especially from a field tech point of view. I own a Rocket Ebook that shows great potential for the future of ebooks. I really wish they had a Linux version of their Librarian but, I was told straight from them that it wasn't going to happen. The Rocket does a very nice job of display/readability that a palm or ce device just can't deliver. That, and it has about a 40hr lifespan on the battery. As far as what the publishing barons want, thats simple: profit! The price for an ebook edition of some current books is the same as a real book & frankly, that just won't do.
"decreased the time subjects took to react to words flashed onto the screen. When "yes" or "no" was displayed, the volunteers were quicker at pressing a matching button if the headset was switched on"
Yeah, cocaine will give you the same results, but, you won't see me running out and snorting. No thanks, I can afford to wait 10+ more years and watch what happens. Besides, if I had a cell phone, my job would probably be able to find me...unlike now:)

GW..is that you?! Hey, I haven't seen you since the RNC in Philly! Yeah, nice speech, BTW. But onto the tropic, this is just plain WRONG!! Lucas is *DESTROYING* all my childhood memories of SW by altering & replacing the elements that made it so freakin' cool to begin with! Stop screwing with the originals, Georgie!
If ANYTHING represents me and what I like, it's the Food Network (and foodtv.com). The shit I've learned about cooking there has been great! And Iron Chefs is just too hysterical/cool to miss! I like to eat good food. As for animation, well, that's what Cartoon Network is for:)
The only reason that UT windows made the sales is because there was no Linux boxed version available. Yeah, I had to buy the windoze version and d/l the binaries to play under Linux. And you know what, my framerates blew away everyone else running it under windoze. I guess they are ditching Glide for the very same reason nVidia is ditching Linux: money. Seems they enjoy sucking the micro$oft moneycock just like nVidia. Thanks a lot, Epic. Enjoy your time while you can.
Probably faster than you can say "Steve Jobs is a crackhead, megalomaniac!" Whew! That's a tongue twister ;-)
