Duplicating efforts for a desktop is a big waste of resources. KDE and GNOME must find a way to work together or the dream of the Linux desktop will NEVER be realized.
GUI applications are a pain to write. Customizing the L&F to match those of the underlying desktop is expensive. Till this day (Year 2004), I have a hard time copying and pasting between Linux apps. Sorry, but I am sticking with Windows XP as my desktop until these minor "gotchas" are resolved.
"However, I'm supprised that no really bad security holes in konqueror have been discovered yet. Browser and file manager intergrated is very nice, but also very scary..."
Konquerer is not exactly being targeted by hackers. It is being used by a very very very smally number of people.
that I worked for, Linux would not have been used had it not been for Java. The ability to run Java apps on Linux casued the firms to move all their enterprise servers from Solaris/Windows to Linux. Only the database runs on Solaris.
With a project that has no bugs, no patches, no docs and no messages in a forum, you really have the audacity to even compare this with Jabber. I couldn't care less about Jabber, but you are nothing but a troll.
us pee ons that we can still create something very special with almost nothing but scrapped together hardware. Who said that we need millions to implement great ideas ?
Just like everywhere else in the middle and far east. People will simply pirate Windows and the regular apps and user them. Linux?? Sounds nice but they can get the 'Standard OS that everyone uses' for almost free. $5 for Windows and Office.
That is simply not true. AT&T sells the P800 and many other phones that are not 850.

Funny that you mention the places that I visited last month. Used my AT&T GSM phone with no problems. We also used the phone from LA to LAS in the desert with 0 problems. O'hare is also perfect. We live in Chicago and GSM reception is pretty good. I would suggest buying a new phone.
I love the idea but the big problem is Microsoft. Will Microsoft still support Windows on the new Sun Opterons ? I doubt it. Sun will never be a hostage of MS and vice-a-versa.
has to be the most disappointing movie that I had ever seen.
Oh.. It's already a cluster.
password1 password2 password3 password4 based on the month that you are in.
I wish I had mod points to mod you down. Beginner/Expert mode do not exist on OS/X or Windows XP ? There is no reason for Linux to have them.
Do you really want to confuse your users even more ???

That did look like a tripped T68i inside their box. Hmmm...
Neither Java nor .Net are EMCA standards. C# is.

reminds me of looking at pictures from a history book. This device is UGLY. So 1970's. Wait till the Japanese come up with a competitor.
Jukebox and music manager -- JuK ??
Multiprotocol instant messaging -- Kopete
PIM and groupware solution -- Kontact
Konqueror ?
Why? Why? Why?
eom

size is great but do Blue ray drives perform ?
>>for "real" programming, we have C and C++. Java really hasn't made much of an inroads (most of its penetration is with compsci students),
Hmmmm. A quick search on monster.com for Java yielded "Jobs 1 to 50 of more than 5000"
C++ Yielded "Jobs 1 to 50 of 4162"
So Java is not being used just in acadamia. Get you facts straight.

resort to desparate measures. Shall i say SCO ?
before this thread degenerates into Java vs .NET
Better than what is currently available but not backwards compatible. Intel will not make the same mistake that IBM made.
It's the software baby. Sun can not make the same claim.
The Itanium is too expensive and slow. Ditto Sparc. AMD 64 bit servers running 64bit Java VMs will make for a killer combination.
