San Francisco has a large elderly population, and they have enough trouble getting around town without having to worry about being creamed by some pasty yuppie ass tooling down the sidewalk on his $10,000 toy, yapping on his goddamn cell phone.
Your attitude towards your fellow citizens is offensive in the least, and stupid besides. Do you really think that "pasty yuppie asses" will be the ones to buy this thing - instead of (for example) postal workers, who are already testing it?
I thought cheap bashing of tech professionals went out with the boom - when the bashers suddenly found that they didn't have jobs either. Guess not. So much for San Franciscans' supposed tolerance of others.
Here's my question (I live in SF). Why not focus on issues that are actually relevant today? Segway is such publicity-whore vaporware - you might as well ban hydrogen-powered cars, or GNU/HURD.
I can't believe there's another positive Iridium story on slashdot. Is this due to the visual studio.NET ads?
People, we need to boycott this insidious attempt by Micro$haft and the evil **AA along with Senator Disney and the BSA to control our PCs! Join the EFF, delete your Windows partition, and FIGHT BACK against this menace! Power to the people!
Yes, fuck the lawyers who get millions while we get either jack shit or twenty fucking bucks.
Fuck the judge that allowed a settlement in which consumers get a tiny fraction of the price-fixing harm, while the attorneys (let me remind you!) get millions.
Earned it? The only work they did was get RIAA member companies to pay them a small amount relative to the total harm to get them off the hook. It sounds much more like collusion than anything else.
(Of course, I took my $20, because it's better than nothing. But I'll send it all to either EFF or SomaFM.)
Use one of the PC based (free or not) DVR tools, or buy a Replay, or keep your VCR.
All I want is a VCR.
Exactly. For some of us the TiVo service is well worth it, and it's not as if they haven't been clear about the requirement to subscribe. I for one absolutely love it, and only watch a few hours of TV per week. (And $12.95 isn't exactly extortionate - that's less than a tank of gasoline.)
You don't necessarily have to be a big corp. to get 501(c)3. I'm involved in a small theater company that is currently in the process of getting its 501(c)3 status - we have engaged an attorney who's doing it pro bono, and with her help it's really not that difficult. The key benefits of being 501(c)3 are (a) you don't pay taxes on retained income, and (b) donations are tax deductible. Disadvantages are increased reporting requirements (hence the need for an accountant) and loss of flexibility in case you want to be for-profit some day (but it doesn't seem that SomaFM is in that category).
I would advise you do it, if you can afford to. Tax deductible donations mean bigger donations!
If I can't select any internet radio station then no fucking way would I buy this. Seems like some marketing suit at Philips thought they could get referral bucks from Live365 et al. - but in today's market this makes no sense at all. Sorry Philips, see ya later.
Is it as simple as that to pull mpegs off the tivo? I have airport and an old powerbook G3, and would love to hang onto those South Park episodes I keep watching.
Including such gems as the Stephen King Dead At 55 troll, and "OH YEAH SUCK IT jerkstore troll strikes again." All that was missing was a goatse redirect.

(On-topic: just fucking ride them in the street. It is not difficult to do so. Just like you ride any other powered scooter.)

Weird.
"first post?"
slashdot trolls YOU!
Hey, some people say "I ANAL" and mean it.

oh, Iridium? oops, never mind.
Testing 123 testing. Testing 456 testing. Hahaha.
DVD regions make me wish the MPAA member executives were all thrown in jail for price fixing.
Can't say I have. What happens in said scenes? Something with a vibrating phone?
Think of the vibration options!
Excellent question.
If you need security, just run IPSec. If you don't, don't. Requiring it is dumb, though.
Please, NO QT FLAMEWAR. It just gives our moderator more to delete.
They admit it! Haha!
I love how they moved the page to Sourceforge due to heavy traffic from slashdot. Suck it, OSDN!
Sounds awful.

They merge with the Ministry of Silly Walks!

Either that, or they will teach programmers how to include cheat keys! (read down to item 3.)
