Government needs to be there and be strong enough to act as a referee to keep companies from cheating. Otherwise you will have situations where a winning company can do anything it wants to keep startups from forming and becoming successful. On the other hand, if the government is strong but morally weak, then itit can be used to create the same barriers to entry.
Even if a major company has somehow thwarted the will of the mighty NSA, they are still probably using software or tools from a company that has been compromised. And even if they are purely using their own inhouse software, it is entirely likely that they can bend an employee in that company. And even if they cannot bend an employee in that company, they can probably get someone in through their physical security to mame the system.
Security is like a balloon. You either have a balloon or a piece of rubber with a hole in it. Its not a balloon for more than an instant with a hole in it.
If paypal blocked the ability to remove money from the account, but still allowed donations to pile up even more, then that seems to be a criminal act.
Society does not exist for one particular individual. And almost all individuals would fail/die without the society to sustain them.
The problem with our society is that we have allowed the corruption to get too bad and it is not functioning well anymore. All the money that should be used to regenerate the tools of society is being siphoned away for the benefit of a subset of the society.
Great, they key is signed and you agree to trust it. Then somebody steps into the middle on the next connection attempt and hands you a new key. Signed by a trusted authority that has been compromised. Does your client check the manually accepted keys before the CA signed keys? Does it do a redundancy check? Or does it just merrily proceed and let you give the MITM your password. I really dont think the client is checking to see if the key changes. And that would be a very bad thing.
Yeah, free enterprise can solve any problem. I am sure there are plenty of entities out there that would love to have a bunch of radioactive waste to play with. I bet they would pay top dollar for it. Only....I think we may not want them to have it. But hey! After they spread it all over Tokyo or NYC, maybe thats actually a business opportunity! Think of the manufacturing revenues we could accrue in coffins.
But he was specifically chosen and elected because we were tired of warmongering. McCain was defeated by casting him as someone who would start wars all over the place. So, the election and subsequent actions of Obama have proven that the people have NO SAY in the tenor or outcomes of their government anymore.
Apple had their MacOS, and they abandoned it for a complete rethink. Microsoft should do the same. Microsoft should create a new OS based on Linux. With their own Graphics system, but use Linux as a base.
I have seen their website crash a page several times. And I should not have to login again to be in the nook section. And their content hierarchy could be better so that finding stuff is easier. They need more sub-genre support. Trying to display cover-art on e-ink displays makes little sense to me. We didnt buy e-ink for the pictures, so give us content that is text. And do it fast and rich. Make the e-ink books better at navigating your content and you will sell more content.
I wonder if they're bringing Bill Gates back

I mean, they would like to mirror Apples success. There is a certain part of me that wonders if Bill gates might be planning to come back in a the style of Steve Jobs. It would be very very tacky, but taste is not the MS strong suit.
So if they are going to require real identities, how are they going to deal with people who can easily develop false identities.
I think the real identities are a good thing, but for a different reason: It will clarify to people that their "anonymity" is a sham and a trap and they are not really anonymous to people that want to find out.
Its more likely that their recent moves have been carefully considered. They move. They watch how the opposition moves. Then they go for the kill. They dont have to understand differential equations to be cunning. And they practice cunning every day. Even on each other. Its foolish to call them stupid or ignorant.
If the communication was directed to a lawyer at the site, would client attorney privilege not be a valid shield? I think it takes more than your average order to break that.
VERY nice.

You cannot fix this technologically, politically, or socially. This is not a "problem". Its a global coup-d'etat.
And never open it again.

Esp for a startup effort, isnt an online money order possible?
Thats how I would treat any computer (or phone) that I did not install myself. And frankly, I think even the cpus might have backdoors now.
The only way to win is not to play.
Becoming part of the foundation of a building is not considered construction.

Sorry about my poor reading skills. I dont know enough about a new CA to be able to tell if this would work.

Doesnt that pretty much defeat SSL? And what on earth would make you believe that they weren't compromised.
There is no way they are going to ask for help.

Is it still considered a civil war? Seems more like a covert war to me.

Didn't they just discover that some of the plastics we use mimic the some hormones? Isnt it possible its really "in the water" this time?
