    HDCP was only a nightmare when I turned my PS3 on first, THEN my TV initially after plugging it in.

    Every subsequent power on, it can go on in any fashion I'd like. same with my cable box.

    HDCP is like the diet coke of DRM solutions; doesn't actually solve anything and at the same time doesn't really hinder life.

    OTOH, AACS is a different story.

    Actually, I don't understand the grading scale at all.

    it seems like it's just a way for people to justify their own anal retentiveness. Either you understand the material and you should move on in your education or you don't. GPAs have done a coup d'grace on civility in higher academia with everyone competing to be top of the class.

    NBC has one arm that is wholly non partisan, and yes, it's MSNBC.

    If MSNBC were liberal in the tradition of Fox News, the Michael Savage show wouldn't have been a show where he got to espouse hateful speech, it'd be an hour of him being tarred and feathered over and over again.

    I work as a php developer for an isp's tech support division. One of the guys on the floor decided he wanted to be a programmer too.

    Except he doesn't actually understand what he's doing. For a simple project requiring access to a MySQL DB, it took me 3 code reviews to explain how mysql_real_escape_string works.

    Yes, heaven forbid people be *CERTIFIED* in what they do.

    Probably, but I don't do hard horror/scifi either.

    I think I've entered the alternate reality where geeks forget that media is about embracing the fantasy a little and engaging in the narrative. Flesh and Stone/The Time of Angels didn't scare me. The initial idea that there are things around us in this universe that largely do not care if we live or die that may indeed kill us when we're not looking coupled with creepy looking angel statues really freaked me out for a while.

    I am an adult, atheist skeptic and I'm largely unphased by spooks, ghouls, ghosts, and other nonsense. *I* was hiding behind the fucking couch. He found that little fear of creepy shit button in my brain and kept pressing it.

    After the end of time arc I'm happy with a brighter happier and more cheerful Doctor. Gloomy doctor worked for Tennant at the end but for a fresh start, give me a doctor that can have the balls to wear a bow tie and a fucking fez!

    Locked? Sure. Locked down OS wise? Wrong. The fact that any given lousy OEM could bundle Android on to their lousy useless phone for free is why Android took off, not the OS openness.

    I say things are fine as they are.

    Ideally, everyone will learn from their mistakes and OS vendors will stop shitting out lousy unusuable desktop OSes and stable server platforms, hardware OEMs will start focusing on putting out quality hardware along with working with software vendors to produce real actual products rather than a mish mash of parts that may some day be useful.

    I don't care about a walled garden. Freedom's an illusion. Freedom doesn't make your device not suck. Freedom doesn't make your UI intuitive or your file management logical.

    All fighting game sticks are 8 way. I can't name a single non-8 way digital stick meant for fighting games. Street Fighter uses 8 way sticks.

    Yes, Sanwa sticks are 8 way too. And they're far superior to Happ, or in your case, that silver monstrosity you posted. God that thing *is* horrible. I owned one. They're the worst sticks ever.
