I think you underestimate the number of people that are using Blender. Recently Blender has been getting a very big increase in popularity (helped partially by the Elephants Dream movie) and Blender is also being used in several professional companies as well. Blender is no longer a small and insignificant project by any means.

It is not the game engine that defines the feel of art and play of a game. The artwork and the game logic (which isn't part of the game engine but written on top of the game engine) are what makes a game unique. And you can make many unique games with the same game engine. Saying that one game engine makes all games look alike is like saying that all games using Direct3D look alike.

  10. Replacing the Game Engine: CrystalBlend on Blender 2.40 Released · · Score: 5, Interesting

Some of you may already know but we are aiming to make a new GameEngine for Blender using the Crystal Space 3D Engine (http://www.crystalspace3d.org/). This project is called CrystalBlend (more information on that project here: http://www.crystalspace3d.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index. php?page=CrystalBlend). The idea is (just like with the current game engine) to be able to make full games from inside Blender without the need to program. The current logic system for the game engine is a bit limited so you often have to resort to Python scripts to make the full game but with CrystalBlend we will make a totally new logic system that still allows for this fallback but makes it less needed.

The reason I post here is that I'm looking for developers who want to help me with this project mainly on the Blender side. As the project manager of Crystal Space I will take on the Crystal Space side of CrystalBlend (i.e. 3D engine specifics). I will also work on the logic system itself but I would like some other people to help me with both the integration of Blender and Crystal Space as the development of the new user interfaces for the new logic system.

Give me a mail (jorrit dot tyberghein at gmail dot com) if you are interested!

We now have several new boxes and they do make the creations in them according to the instructions but soon after they simply pour the bricks of those in the general brick boxes and start building their own inventions.

My kids simply love to play with the bricks from the dinosaur and deepsea lego designer boxes.

Perhaps you should take a look at these new series. They really are VERY good and allow for a lot of things you can make on your own. And btw, these new boxes already come with booklets showing schematics for around 9 to 12 models and photographs (without schematics) for several more.

Sorry but that reasoning is nonsense. I agree that you should know what a function does and how to use it but that doesn't mean that I should have to type the full name over and over again. Some libraries and API's have pretty long names for functions and they are not always easy to remember. Also some API's have a lot of functions. Some of which are not very intuitive. Since I have no control over those API's I have to use them and that's when IntelliSense is VERY handy indeed. I use IntelliJ at work for Java and in addition to IntelliSense IntellJ also shows you a short summary of the JavaDoc and all possible variants (overloads) of a function with all parameters and exceptions that are thrown.

And it is not only for remembering. IntelliSense is also very useful so you don't have to actually type the long names everytime.
