obligatory Simpson's quote: "In America, first you get the sugar, then you get the power. Then you get the women..."
Do these sugars only come in small quantities in space rocks, or might there be veins of sugar running through them? Could we create space probes that power themselves by feeding off this sugar? if you licked one of those space rocks, would it taste sweet?

Excuse me for not bashing Microsoft (I'll try to in my next post, don't worry), but wouldn't it be just as easy to plant "trojans, trapdoors, and bugs" in Linux? What with Linux being open-source, anyone can hack it, and unless those who review the code go over it line by line, it may be possible to slip something in. And if not in the Linux kernel, what about another Open Source program? Be wary, Linux users....
MS Access client apps will need to be rewritten (hundreds lurk in my company)
I don't think anything's gonna change here; Access is only available in Office for Windows, not for the Mac...and nothing makes me suspect it would end up in a Linux version, if such a product were to be developed (which I doubt will happen).
Seriously, if Win95 was released 8/24/95, do you realize what version of the Linux kernel was released just 4 days later, on 8/28/95?

Is anyone here running that version of the kernel?
I should think not; 1.3.21 is in the odd-numbered unstable branch...
Apparently since at least 1946. But who knows for how long they were all male before that....grab your Bible or check with your local religious authority for more details.
You can take comfort in the fact, that at least Tupperware has a lifetime guarantee on their products. Take that bowl to the nearest Tupperware party and the Tupperware representative can either get it replaced right then and there or possibly give you a voucher to get it replaced. Good luck.
Personally, when I moved cross-country, I packed everything I own into a big 20ft long big yellow Penske truck (screw U-Haul, heard too many horror stories there). Everything was packed solidly into the truck, and tied down throughout the truck. Very little shifted throughout the 2000mile trip.
As for your situation...how the hell did you pack this stuff? I mean, sure, I can sympathize with some of the damage, like the broken feet on your Mac, but the dented cases? Twisted hinges? The mutilated RCA jack? Short of tearing your boxes open and kicking everything with steel-toe boots, how did this happen? What did you use to pack around all this equipment? or was it all just piled into the box? I've still got the boxes and styrofoam from when I bought my computer in the first place, and if I ever need to move the computer again, I'll still have it. Guess you should have packed more carefully. Better luck next time...
We certainly accept free software as part of the software ecosystem. In fact, there's a very virtuous cycle where people do free things, some people find that adequate, sometimes companies will take that work and turn it into commercial products, those companies will hire people, pay taxes. And so you see the free software and the commercial software existing together.
So basically, free software is only good for taking the software that you didn't create, didn't put any work into, and stealing^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hselling it commercially, then waiting for the next big free software project to come out, and sell that one. I guess it saves MS some money; they don't have to buy out a company to get it's good software.....
I downloaded the beta (alpha?) linux version...after a pain in the neck of getting it to register a new user without screwing up its screen or segfaulting, I got it working.....I usually have to start the program about 5 times before it stops segfaulting and actually connects...but once it's connected, I haven't had it segfault and die on me. However, the screen gets awful screwy at times (but switching between the search/download screens or tabbing usually clears it up).
Its working great so far....and if anyone has a copy of Cannibal! The Musical in DivX;-) format, put it up on kaZaA so I can grab it...I've got a friend who'd greatly appreciate it as his tape of it was stolen...
So if it's Linus' name that was the best thing Transmeta had, wouldnt it be more appropriate to put that under something like good will rather than IP? Ah, I haven't taken an accounting class in a couple years, so who really cares....
It appears that this nuance of reasoning was lost on someone at the Washington Post. I imagine this may be caused by this newspaper's staff being stretched to their limits last week.
Nice way of saying they suck by making it sound like you're not saying that when we all know you are. You rock!
So what if they're tracking you with the supermarket discount cards? why are they tracking you? So they can figure out what you buy. You dont buy contraband and bomb accessories at the Ralphs, or Pick 'n Save, do you? So what if they know what brand of ice cream you like. Hell, I'd be glad they know which ice cream I buy, that way maybe they're more likely to keep it in stock.
Somewhere you've gotta draw the line on what you share and what you dont, though. It could be a slippery slope in either direction. You can be too secretive (read: Paranoia) or you can be too open (read: annoying guy at work who tells everyone the follies of his love life). Everyone's gotta pick their point where htey draw the line. My line lets the grocery store give me a discount on ice cream for letting them know I buy it. Whoop-dee-doo.
