Over the long run much of the cost of machines is in support. The cost of support of micro-farms is much higher then what it would cost to support one or two machines. I still don't see how it is cost effective to have a micro-farm.

Linux has gotten big enough that Adobe has to recognize it as an OS for their software. I personally would really like to see some more graphics software for Linux. Not having some of the big 3D software is what has kept my windows partician around.

  10. Surprised? on The Reviewer Who Wasn't · · Score: 1

Who is actually surprised. Advertising departments do this type of thing all the time. Just about any photograph in a weight loss ad was airbrushed. Why should the movies be any different. Just don't take everything at face value.

  13. Intrusive advertising on Would Fonzie Sell You A Lexus? · · Score: 2

I think that we will be getting more and more intrusive advertising. Banner ads are getting larger. Just look at ZDNet's advertising. On any article there is an ad for Compaq or IBM that takes up most of the page. This is just coming in on TV now. I don't have a solution, but god help the day that push webpages actually happen.

  14. Great idea on TuxBox: Rising from Indrema's ashes · · Score: 1

This is a great idea that I would like to see take off. It would be really good for the open source community to put a consule like this together without the funding that PS2 or XBox had.

  15. Success on Open-Source Processors · · Score: 2

The reason open sourced software development works so well is because many people can help out on the project and put as little or as much time as they want. With open sourced hardware, not nearly as many people will be able to contribute to the cause due to lack of hardware resources. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea, but I don't think it will get the same success as open sourced software.
