I don't know why this surprises anybody. And that bias leaks into their news reports, even if the bias is as simple as not covering a candidate (showing images of Gingrich, Santorum, Romney, but not Ron Paul (who?)) or not covering an issue (repeal of right to trial under the NDAA if you are suspected terrorist*). FOX, NBC, CNN, radio news, online blogs... all have bias. It's just a matter of uncovering that bias. FOX=republican; NBC/CNN/CBS/ABC/PBS/NPR=democrat; talk radio=conservative; blogs reflect the views of the owner.
* * suspected terrorist - As defined by the FBI is almost anyone. Pay with cash? Hide your phone from view when texting? Have a liberty/freedom-oriented bumper sticker? Own a gun, stunner, or can of mace? Et cetera.
>>> to pick on one dialect as a problem but not the others
False. Where I come from "youse" and "ain't" is a common term, and the teachers punish students for using it. You made a strawman argument that only one dialect is picked upon, but that's not true. MANY dialects are labeled as "bad" in the U.S. school system.
As for WHY they want a fixed standard is so people can communicate with one another across 3000 miles. Otherwise, like Europe after the fall of Rome, the language will evolve and become mututally unintelligible. At one time everybody in Western Europe (Rome's territory) spoke the same tongue, but because of a lack of standardization, that unity broke apart. The same would happen in America. Soon Californians and New Yorkers would not understand one another.
If the GSA ceased to exist, it wouldn't matter if they were perfect or imperfect human beings. Meanwhile we the people would be richer (less government spending). In fact I'm reaching the point where I think NO central government would be a good plan, except to provide a navy and army for defense, and build roads for internal transport, and that's about it.
Anything else could, like Europe, be left to the member states. Or private companies (mail, trains, cars). Or both (regulated monopolies like utilities).
We won't curb our fossil fuel use any way... there's no viable alternative (especially for mobile devices like cars, planes, long-distance freight trucks, ships). It would mean living like they lived in the pre-oil age (1800s).
I doubt persons saying "ax" instead of ask are using an older form of English or German, since most of their ancestors originally spoke an African tongue. (Sorry; just speaking truth.) They are merely mispronouncing the word, in the same way that mispronounce "po" instead of poor.
Fixed that for you.;-) I suspect the case argues Apple is responsible for the items it gives-away in its store, just the same as Walmart is responsible if it gave-away free items that later suckered kids into spending money to play the item.
Greenpeace? Is this the same group that "rescues" animals from lab experiments or farm slaughterhouses, and then gasses them in a room (because they have no place to put these animals they "saved")? I recall the founder of Greenpeace now speaks-out against them.
I quit BBSes because they only had a range of ~100 miles (the local area code). I was involved in HAM for a while but quit for the same reason. Nowadays with the internet my voice or text can reach the whole world.
I'm surprised. I thought California had lots of nude or topless beaches, where exposing yourself was not a crime? (shrug)
I liked the lady who showed-up in a bikini, thus showing she was not hiding anything. Unfortunately that tactic won't work 10 years from now when she's fatter and not so good looking. Then the TSA will be demanding she cover-up. LOL.
I don't hate Apple. I hate their fans, because they seem to believe Apple is god (i.e. flawless). There was a time I would have said Amiga was better than Apple, and Apple was better than Microsoft (90s).
For that reason I used Amigas and Macs frequently, but with the stability of the Windows NT OS (specficially XP and 7), there's very little difference. Yes MS has flaws but so too does Apple; to pretend apple is flawless seems ridiculous. THAT is why her fans annoy me.
>>>Try to find an example of that from any of the other computer manufacturers out there
My Commodore Plus/4 died after just 1.1 years, so even though the warranty had already expired, Commodore gave me a brand-new 128. Has Apple ever done anything like that (free upgrade to the latest model Mac)?
>>> this sounds like isolated cases, and could be for any number of reasons (user voids warrantee, the problem turns out to be a different part, etc).
Apparently the court disagreed. A warranty is a warranty. This reminds me of Toyota refusing to replace engines that had failed after only ~25,000 miles. They claimed the blame belonged to the customer, and forced owners to shell-out ~$6000 on new engines for their 1-2 year old cars/trucks. (It was later discovered the engines were running too hot, thus causing the oil to sludge, and not the customers' fault.)
The civil lawsuit eventually sided with the customers and Toyota had to reimburse them for their fees. I will NEVER understand why these corporations like Apple/Toyota think they can offer a warranty, and then not honor said warranty. Maybe they believe the customers will not bother seeking legal recompense.
>>>according to things I've read, it's "enhanced" by the "Amazon Cloud".
That's true for Amazon Silk on the Fire tablet. It operates similar to Opera Turbo where the browser fetches pages from the Opera server and then downloads a compressed images/text/HTML.
But my older Kindle doesn't come with Silk. Its browser is called "experimental" and operates at 3G speeds (about the same as my home DSL ~700 kbit/s).
CanHasDIY doesn't know how to read. I quote my previous post - "The sole exception is broadcast TV/radio and that's only because the broadcast spectrum is visible to everyone (therefore the FCC restricts its use). Cable TV or radio is not censored. Nor the internet. Or books/newspapers." The Congress and its subordinate agencies are forbidden by the Superior law of the Constitution.
>>>Any 3D images created on an amiga without a video toaster, would have been rendered (very slowly!) on it's CPU
No shit. That's what I've been saying all along. The CGI in B5, seaQuest, et cetera was rendered by the Amiga CPU and displayed with its graphics chip..... about one hour per frame.
>>>If you're right, the old bulb will continue working for years, and the new bulb will burn out shortly
The old 90s bulbs are two coils in a long-U configuration. It would look like ass in my kitchen ceiling. I NEED to use the newer bulbs which look like normal round bulbs (except they never last). I'm going back to incandecents and damn the extra 0.0001 ton of CO2 I produce this year. I drive a Honda Insight that gets almost 90mpg..... I'm producing FAR less carbon dioxide by switching to that car, than some damn CFL shit.

If you READ THE BOX it very clearly says CFLs should not be used in enclosed fixtures. That's not anecdotal; it's direct advice from the manufacturer's engineers. Why do they give that advice? Because the trapped heat kills the electronics. Same with upside-down installations which trap heat.

I need to get one of these. I've heard you can program your PC to become a shortwave radio and receive the "new" DRM digital standard.

I thought air compressors were an integral part of the low-flow toilets (the high pressure forces the waste down the hole).

Fixed that for you. ;-) I suspect the case argues Apple is responsible for the items it gives-away in its store, just the same as Walmart is responsible if it gave-away free items that later suckered kids into spending money to play the item.
BTW I don't expect the dad to win this case.
So far I've not bought anything for my kindle... I just copy-over plain text books. :-)
Amazon must be annoyed.
Heh heh.
I thought the 1960s original HUMBUG! was better. The next generation show was never quite as good, and has aged poorly. (imho)

Explain please.
HAM? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hold_And_Modify
Or maybe Sliced HAM (hi-res mode): ;-)

When I use its "experimental" browser to access the web, is it using the Amazon cloud or going direct to the net? It is unclear.
(Note: I'm talking about the regular kindle, not the Kindle fire with its Silk browser.)
