    A lot of flash-based drives I have taken a look at have very poor write performance. Why anyone would choose to use this in a high-performance desktop is strange.

    I could be wrong here on my history, but it seems to me the conquest of the Indians went a little backwards than normal.

    It was first something along the lines of 'We come in peace', which changed to 'Let us buy your lands', to 'We're taking your lands and moving you elsewhere/War'.

    Most of the time it seems it takes the opposite route. War, then treay/conquer, then peace.

    I know a few people who have autistic kids/relatives. From the small sample pool I can draw from, they are looking for a cure.

    I understand not wanting to put false hope in something that at this point is simply promising research, however this is how the scientific process works. Find something interesting, investigate the correlation, and find out what happens when it is corrected.

    Unless you are trying to say that this research is not worth being funded or looking into, which would be a different story. But I don't think that is what you mean.

    I personally love video games, work 40-50 hours per week, and have a girlfriend. It helps she is into video games, but we still only play a few nights a week. (Usually around 3)

    It's all about finding a balance. Anything can take over your life if you let it.

    I worked at Microsoft for a period of time and a significant number of people spent a lot of late hours at work.

    I do not think it is uniquely Microsoft or Google in that regard.

    Aren't their news and general search one and the same though? One is just a little more automated way of pulling news stories for you.

    Also, Google is not a near monopoly in Europe. Only in the US do they serve something like 87% of the searches.

    I believe the argument is that it is better for Google, et al, to operate in these spaces than not operate at all. That some, albeit limited, information is better than none.

    The argument they make is that packing up and going home so that a home-grown site can do the same is no better, and probably worse.

    I believe this is incorrect.

    For their first generation of media they will not be enabling the flag. Their hardware players will still support it.

    The flag is an optional feature which they will not use, initially.

    Can anyone tell me why this engine is revolutionary? NASA has been testing these types of engine for some time.

    For example, the X-43 which hit mach 9.6.

    It's the buffering in the driver.

    Flat Panels *will* ghost and blur, however they do not lag.

    What causes this is buffering of execution commands in the drivers, which makes some games at certain resolutions lag really really bad on input.

    Change drivers, and it will usually go away.

    If memory serves the one of the key purposes of the new uniform was to decrease weight.

    When I was working at a certain chip company they recommended that the current motherboards didn't support more than 1gb of RAM.

    We were doing server tests, and we wanted to use more. Did a little research and people suggested that the only reason it didn't support more was a certain capacitor.

    So we removed that, put in 4gb and fired it up. Sure enough it worked fine!

    20 minutes and some small explosions later 3 capacitors were on fire. Quickly put those out, soldered back on the missing capacitor we removed, replaced the burning ones, and all was fine!

    Totally incorrect.

    Shadowbane? You can totally wipe out another guilds town off the face of the map. You can also build your own town. (And defend it lest it burn)

    Guild Wars? Totally built for the 'working gamer'. It's mission based tournament style RPG that is 'instant gratification'.

    World of Warcraft (on a pvp server)? You can wipe out every single pc and npc in a town until they kick you out.

    Anyway you might wanna check out some of the offerings before making pronouncements that all pk'ing and world changing events are gone =p
