Is it now. Hmm I must be violating some sort of TOS by posting this to slashdot then. Have you ever considered that is some areas it is nearly impossible for a small business to get anything other then low speed dsl or cable. Have you ever been to Treasure Island in Fan Francisco for instance?
take your SUV of an OC-48 and shove it, if we dont have open relays, or auth with known good servers we should have the same rights as anyone else.
If you read the article you would know that the "authorised" people are the idiots who set up the 802.11 bridge. As a former menber of the Paly tech team I can say that we would NEVER be so stupid as to put a physicaly insecure connection onto the otherwise secure administraton network.
Have you ever heard of monitor mode, promiscuous mode, or packet analyzers, these methods don't auth with your AP, they just look at the packets in the ether.
Sounds about right, a "stand alone" series. Figure out how to kill all the aliens, no mythology, no wierd crap, maby they end up on the same side as the govt. At least we know that it will be difficult to drag the series out past 2012
As a resident of Redwood Shores I must comment that living on landfill makes the whole quake experience more fun. As long as the ground dosen'tdecide to liquify, it spreads out the shock a bit, felt like someone shaking a car a bit. Hell, in '89 we broke a glass, (my mom nearly had a heart attack) of course, who knows what will happen next time but it was a 5.2 BFD.
and I'm nearly asleep so aplogies for the rambling speach

Actually you call the guy up ASAP,and tell him you left off the part then give him the choice of
a)canceling the order
b)getting a computer without the part
c)negotiate a new aggrement (and throw in a discount for the trouble)
Now if part was on the invoice but you stated the wrong price? Then you are SOL and have to eat the cost. The honor the order bit is in most states civil codes. To sum up California BPC 17500.5 if it didn't say limited quantities then if ANYONE in California got it all all that were denied can get $50 dollars + damages. And that dosent count breach of contract.
What if you had yourbackl wend on an XP machine and you front end running on *nix. Does "Access" include passing data back and forth. would the connection need to be initiated from the XP box to get aroung the restriction? Does this mak it a contract violation if I make hardware & software that sounds an alarm if a sensor is tripped? (does the hardware count as a device? why/ why not) This is one odd and f'd up clause.
I rue the day when my keyboard and mouse will need seprate licences of XP?
Since most of the web pages I have seen are either basic (it is a bubble, it makes light, try it) or has information that seems to be full of errors and typos. And since I am still in HS I dont have a chance in hell of getting access to a decent library (or online access to nature/science/ojps/etc...). Oh well its only another month or two.
Since sonoluminescence dosent seem to scale up (to my knowledge) this seems like a moot point. It is sort of cool to have a cheap way to study micro-fusion though.
3D renders, Audio editing, Image editing, Video Editing, (fill in the blank) editing. Mem. is a huge factor in all these. Live editing 2 hours of high quality video/w audio is a bitch on 32 bit platforms. Now if someone would make a good AV NLE for *nix/*BSD (drool)
But how strongly do you object to having the dmv give you a licence or waiting for a background check to buy a gun? In an anon. medium like the net cd-keys have proven a useable way to combat pirating (not 100% effective but still useful). The Microsoft, Blizzard analogy dosent work because, last time I checked Blizzard wasnt a monopoly. If you dont like it then dont buy the game, or come up with a better argument then blabering about the evils of a company.
Blizzard is well within its rights to want the bnetd project shhut down. If you scan through these posts (or the bnetd mailing list) you will find that this software is being used to avoid CD-key checks. Dont blindly bitch about Blizzard, mabey bitch AT Blizzard, but if you want things to change bitch at your representatives . That is the only way to get real change because PUBLIC companies (ie: companies with share holders) are required to try and protect [legaly] the shareholders interest.
If Mr. CEO thinks that not sicking the lawyers could hurt the corporate interest then they are legaly REQUIRED to do something. Its called due diligance people.
That would suck if a keygen came up with your number and you got kicked. You could set up a system so that while in multiplayer a check is made to the server every x sec. If the check is not made, the key is released and another user can auth with it. if the client cant auth it drops the game. simple and is much less annoying.
I know it sounds tacky but PVR's are forcing rapid and catastrophic changes (in the eyes of the Indust. execs). The power is shifting away from the content "providers"/broadcasters and towards anyone who has locked down a distribution medium that supports 2 way communication. One of the new marketing strats. will probably be to stream data on what shows you watch, and which comercials you like/dislike (they might even include live ad ratings) up to the cable/sat provider where they can offer targeted ads. Personaly this wouldnt be something that I would mind as those damn shotgun ads would all but disapear. I would even but up with a forced X minutes of ads between shows if they would feed the full length shows (most are changed to maximise ad time) and not interupt them every 5 minutes.
And recomended reading for this topic would be chaper 3 of "NEXT"
When will the posters read the damn article this is not a 1GB flash system. When there is a way to fit a gig of flash into a CF2 slot I would like to be the first to know. The diffrence in both seek time and transfer speed between Flash and a microdrive is definatly non-trivial. The micro drive is a small HD, thats it, and they have been around for a while.
As for the test I would like to know if anyone here has less then 15 mp3's that they would like to store on one of these. I want to see how it reacts when you have a few hundred songs and try to use the name recognition system. I have the odd feeling that it might not work so well
Exactly! With "Classical" physics we know that QM effects cause everything, but we dont know what causes QM effects. Oh, wait, QM science describes how things work, what causes them, and possibly how they might work in future (ie: "why" is a bit to shortsighted in my opinion {sounds too final}). Unless you allow "Because it does" to be a scientific argument. (and oh boy would the s*** hit the fan then)
If I may modify that; Quantum computers exploit QM by design (in other words they make there calcs by taking on diffrent quantum states) while classical computers simulate quantum states. (yes they are very diffrent)
There is already a way to do this (if expensive) using two lines of communication one being a fiber that keeps polarization, and the other any other method of communication. By exploiting some of the principles of QM you can both assure "perfect" encryption (one time random key) and tell if your fiber is secure (nessary to assure the key is safe). At the Tx end you would randomly switch between one of 4 polarizations V,H,CCW,CW (keeping a record of the choices), then at the Rx there would be a device that first would either block V-H or CW-CCW polarized light (this model assumes perfect blockage but it is not nessesary) chosing between the two in a perfectly random fashion. Then you block one of the pair that should have gotten through (ie: either V or CCW) and see if a photon arrived. The Tx machine would then send a message telling which of the first filters should have been used. If the Rx side chose the wrong filter it would drop the bit and keep the rest. Both of the two sides would then send an encrypted message with a payload that would be decrypted, modified, encrypted and sent back. If the messages did not match then there was either a transmit error or a snooper on the fiber. Repeating the process a few times would allow you to decide which of the two were the case and decide if a switch needed to be made.

actually the new standard is CE (common era) and has been for the last 5 years or so.
One of the standards in 3D Computer animation is to make a RL model and then digitize (sp?) it, you need model makers for that.
