    Why the hype around MySQL when Postgres has all those features ready for primetime.

    MySQL is easier to install on a Windows machine is my guess. I know thats the reason my group went with mysql on a project last year. We could not require that our customer installed a Linux (or similar) server.

    No. You connect to you device using the serial connector of the RJ45 port. The RJ45 webserver then communicate with the device according to a program you write for it.

    and SMB can only browse the same subnet
    How do I make windows xp able to browse outside a subnet? (Without using special lan-party software).


    not to mention trouble manually connecting to machines on different subnets & domains).
    I have no such trouble. I connect to my samba server at school from my home just fine. Just type in something linke this: smb://ip.adress.to.server/share_name in 'go' -> 'connect to server' in Finder. If neccassary I will be prompted for username and password.

    In my part of the world, Venus is the morning and evening star. Thats probably how it is over at your place to.

    Since even Quake II used 256 colour pcx when it was released, I highly doubt that Doom (1) had jpg textures. I can be mistaking though. Its been a long time since I played Doom.

    In Mac os X i have to pipe man output through less to be able to navigate both ways in the man page*. So since this thread reminded me of info I tried it out, and it works fine! I can navigate both ways. I'll stick to info from now on. Thanks for reminding me. :)

    *)Note that this has probably more to do with "os x" more, and less to do with man.

    I agree to some extent. Vice City has better graphics more variety and is has a much larger playground. However the I liked the city, and story line of the original gta3 much better. But then again I do like sky scrapers and urban surroundings. The gangs where just too anoying in gta3 though. Hopefully the next gta will be in a bigger city. (New York again)

    You remember somewhat wrong. Duke Nukem 3D was relased in '96. 3D Realms quotes the date to be January 29th. And 91 is a probably bit early for 486dx -100 to.

    As for human resources Soviet at the time seemed to have limitless. I do belive that they would have defated Hitler without the allies. I think the numbers speak for them selves. There where a lot more people to spend.

    As for "being saved from a communist takeover is a good thing or a bad thing": if you're trolling, it's NOT funny! We're not talking about a mild modern communist here, but about Stalline! This guy sent millions of people dying in Siberia camps, and you're wondering wether it is a good thing or a bad thing to be under his control???

    You are of course right about this. Stalin was evil. And probably even worse than Hitler in some ways. So the American way is by far better than the Stalin way. And no, it was not my intent to troll. But I also do belive that the true socialist way, is better than the capitalist.

    Interesting. I did not know that the US had a jet fighter developed during WW II. So thank you for enlightening me. However the germans did have a jet fighter during WW II that saw combat, while US of A did not. According to this web site.

    The P-80 was considered the best Allied fighter at the end of World War II. It arrived too late to see combat, even though 45 aircraft were delivered prior to the end of the war.

    As for American casualties in europe I have anotherweb site for you . Soviet Suffered 13.6 million military casualties. Thats about 2.5 times the number of jews killed, and more than 30 times the number of americans troops lost(300,000). The germans lost 3 million. Where do you think Germany lost the bulk of its troops? Thank you Soviet Union, for getting rid of the nazi menace. Had the germans not attacked Stalin, all of europe would probably be speaking german today. Anyone tell you different, and they are victims of (UK and US) allied propaganda.

    As for the US, its true that your presense probably have saved us from a communist takeover. So thank you US of A for that. Wether that is a good thing or not is debatable

    Since they're not paying the developers (but are generously paying the publishing & distribution costs), why not open it up to a competition? Tell people, look, everyone can participate. The deadline for submitting your game is (DATE). After we receive all entries, we'll decide which is the killer Linux game and publish it.

    Lokigames did this type of thing a few months before they closed shop. Anyone know what happened to that competition?

    Anyway, competitions like this tend to create lots of tetris/solitaire/pacman clones. We have those already.

    I remember reading about the guy that played Darth Vader in episode IV. He didn't belive that Star Wars would be a hit so I demanded a fixed salary instead of royalties like the studio wanted to give him. Guess who is bitter today? He now seems to make his living the bitter and sad story.

    Royalties could be a good thing. The developers should get some money for food though. Game development require lots of time. Not many can have another job on the side. (If game is to be released before Duke Nukem Forever that is)

    This of course is not correct anymore. Apple has been slashing prices every 6 months lately. This destroy the resale value of used Macs. I bought an iBook last march for about $2000. Today I would be lucky if I could sell it for $800.

    I know this guy that actually did something like this. A webdesinger character. He has been the biggest Mac zealot since I first met him 6-7 years ago. Back then I hated the mac, the one button mouse and macos 6-8. I used GNU/Linux and was very happy with it. One year ago I got my first mac. An iBook. I love it. What happens then? His Powerbook breaksdown, and while waiting for it to return he start using XP. Now he say he is happy with it and probably will stay with XP. Now thats a path I won't follow him.

    Incidently this guys can't figure out os x.

    Im currently doing some work with the Quake II engine. The one thing I've really been missing is better terrain rendering. Boxes and Pyramids can only be fun for so long. This engine seems to have more advanced terrain rendering than Quake II. Interesting indeed.
