I really can't stand the new UI. Slightly isometric, wobbling, with your character covering part of your inventory? The fonts are tiny, gun pics are tiny. Even the "manual" has the tiniest fonts ever. Would it have broken the bank to have one extra page and a 10pt font?
The previous UI was better in every way and it wasn't great.
I'm also unimpressed with the Angel. She just kinda stares at you, the previous one had much more "personality" (and better looking in my opinion). And the whole "damn, I mean drat". Um... wasn't Borderlands targeted towards an older crowd? "Damn" is barely PG13 let alone mature.
Having said that, I liked the original and I'm liking this one.
And the ability to turn off radios? Love it. Granted the two I've found weren't actually playing anything. But the radios in the first game made me want to kill. Real people.
I know the whole random guns thing is pretty much the entire point of Borderlands but it's also very frustrating. In the original I remember almost giving up because the game was so hard and then I find a new gun and the game became downright easy for the next 3 levels. So what I really want is a gun system ala race-car-driving game. Get a basic gun frame, then buy/quest upgrades to it. Rescue a gunsmith, he can tune the barrel for more accuracy, something like that. Basically, make the game a bit more deterministic and less random.
But seriously, did some intern design that the UI? An intern with a lazy eye, that drank a bottle of hot-sauce and then took a big dump of sadness all over it?
Just had an idea after reading some of these comments. Why not use the starter motor (or a bigger and beefier drop in replacement) for the first 5-15 km/h. Or since I drive a manual transmission, use the battery and starter for 1st gear? (with a big switch on the dash to run everything 'normally')
The biggest gas savings would be getting my uber heavy Pathfinder rolling from a dead stop. Shouldn't be very complicated, only some extra electronics but no mechanical difference to a stock engine.
Crestron and AMX are only a few (but the best known) of the many companies that have these solutions already.
They aren't cheap but they are tres cool.
As an aside, they all use wires as wireless tend to be for cheap products that are installed by the homeowner after the fact. Real home automation systems are very complex and are usually installed at build or renovation time by professionals.
I think you're missing the main point. The author doesn't want you to have to load XMMS (or any other specific file application combo). You should just be able to use vi, emacs or any other text editor to do the same thing.
I think another point people are missing with the whole potential transferring problem is this: for some file types such has MP3 which have established in-file metadata, you could just inject the songname/title contents into the mp3 stream at the appropriate spot to get a complete MP3 at the other side without even the overhead of copying/creating a new file or tarball to send over.
I transferred from Architecture to Computer Science. People didn't understand how I could like both, and they really didn't understand it when I said they're very similar.
If it's the same type of plug as Marantz or Sony's then yes, you can control the unit directly. Basically the IR receiver on the front, and that jack on the back are one in the same. So if you feed in the digital IR codes via the wire on the back you're good to go.
This doesn't solve your problem with the codes however. My guess is that your remote control uses a different carrier frequency. Most remotes use (from memory so I may be wrong) 31kHz signal but others are in use as well.
The Niles IntelliControl programming unit taught me a bunch about this stuff but it's uber expensive compared to a learning remote.
What if museums allowed smoking? Why should paintings be any different than music? Why should your habit that affects me very directly prevent me from going to a place that I want? Drinking is different, you can sit and get drunk and unless you're loud, puke on me, or try and pick a fight your drinking doesn't affect me. Your smoking does.
I don't know why smoking is allowed at bars and not restaurants. It shouldn't be allowed anywhere. I'm thinking it shouldn't even be allowed in your home because of all the medical bills I'll be forced to pay for your habit.
what we really need is a stink-free and smoke-free cigarette so us non-smokers can go out to a club without having to throw away our clothes the next day.
I'm praying they pass the smoke-free law here in Calgary, Canada.
Not that anybody will read the thousand posts and get to mine but here's my 2 cents. Steven Gould.
Jumper and Wildside are excellent, Green War and Blind Waves are merely above average. They're all page turners, and not too complicated but I really like the plot and characters in Jumper and Wildside.
If I was Robert Jordan I would sue this hack for plagiarism. I really can't tell you how much I hate Goodkind, it's not even like he's trying to be different.
But I do have to agree with comments on Jordan (he used to be my favourite author), the WOT was amazing until Lord of Chaos, then it sort of fell apart, nothing is happenning anymore. I had a theory that there would be 8 books, one book for each seal, and then one to wrap it up. If the series ever ends I'll read them in one go but I'm sick and tired of not knowing what happens next.
Considering Toyota couldn't write software for brakes I'm not surprised they're uneasy about writing autonomous driving software.
It's not a bug it's a feature.
I'm not sure how not getting laid in high school was a feature but here we are.
(1) RAID5 has n data disks plus one dedicated parity-only disk; ZFS distributes all data and all parity across all disks
RAID5 distributes parity and data across all disks, having a single dedicated parity-only disk is RAID3.
Have the clients connect with ssh to your server and open a reverse port. They'll each have to pick a different port on your server.
Use something like autossh ( http://www.harding.motd.ca/aut... ) to make sure the ssh connection is always open.
Having said all that, sounds like a great security hole if your server is ever breached. Plus lots of potential privacy violations.

How can you start work on an operating system without a kernel?

These charlatans have hit about most of them.

Anybody else think that all that hot fire of death was a little close to the fuel tankers and trees?
I heard that an F1 racing car has enough downdraft to drive upside down at speed. True or false?
I detest Risk. It's almost purely luck with little to no skill required.

I like my Swiss Army. Lots of pockets and fancy looking.

You understand it perfectly.

The MSI NForce2 motherboard also supports USB booting.
Other way around, a good Unix admin can also administer a Windows box. Put the average MSCE in front of a terminal window and he'll break the F1 key.
