    I'm not going to question your numbers for white ones, but how do more efficient, colored LEDs stack up? You can always mix LED colors to create white when using them in an array. Also, the solution to burning LEDs may be to increase the number of LEDs. It would be interesting to see some graphs of all this.

    One advantage to LEDs is the ability to place little bits of light in a lot of selective places. I might not need full illumination in some places as long as well-placed LEDs make it easy to see.

    They keep getting harder to find. I bought one about a year ago called a Diva. It's tiny and light and lasts forever on one AA battery.

    The downside: the UI designer must have been a 12 year-old intern.

    AA are cheaper. Go to costco and get the Kirkland Signature brand for about 20 cents each, and they'll last longer too.

    I try to avoid devices that use AAA.

    Do some reading. Read about the Wachowski brothers. Read about the philosophy in the movies. They are deeper than you thought possible.

    What does humanity lose when all soybean plants become roundup-resistant?

    Being pest resistant is a good thing. But if you make plants that are resistant to chemicals, you increase the chances that those chemicals will be used on the plants, which could increase the health risks to humans.

    True, true. Unfortunately, they're too busy dining with fat cats and receiving large checks to have much time for thinking.

    There is a real problem in the United States system. Corporations have bought our politicians, and the voters are no longer very relavent.

    The spamtrap idea is superb. However, any respectable spamming software would learn to recognize and avoid that domain. It would be more effective if there were many semi-anonymous domains that performed this function.

    if you're getting that 13 dollar check, don't bitch about the cost of CDs, you lost that right when you agreed to the settlement.

    Unfortunately, most everyone lost the legal right to damages from the price fixing covered by the settlement. If you didn't specifically opt-out, then you are considered part of the litigating "class", who now has no further rights.

    On the other hand, if price fixing continues, maybe everyone will get another $13 in a few years. Or maybe the attorneys will work a little harder and actually force the companies to stop fixing prices.

    I'm not sure why this seems strange to you surprised by this. Yes. Cars are noisy and they make the air around them unpleasant to breathe. Eliminate this and the need to avoid being hit by cars, and there's a good chance atmosphere will develop.
