Has she even had enough time? Did they expect her to have a magic wand or twiddle her nose when she was hired? Short-term investors just need to pucker more.
Really? Really?! We need a VR SIMULATOR to understand what it's like to be black in America??!
How about you TALK to your black neighbors? Is making a computer simulation somehow easier than listening to another person explain how life is like for them? NO WONDER things are the way they are.
"We cannot quite know what will happen if a machine exceeds our own intelligence, so we can't know if we'll be infinitely helped by it, or ignored by it and sidelined, or conceivably destroyed by it." I'm betting on "ignored."
Well that's fine, I guess, if "ignored" is in not in the sense of humans ignoring ants aka easily destroyed without remorse when necessary or annoying.
Also, how long until Google attains self-realization that our ant brains are easy to pick? Oh, wait...
That would actually fit within the current flight plan if it became EM-2. 580 days with a larger, livable service module could do it. That would be a mission worth a heavy lift vehicle and an actual date as opposed to "maybe we'll go to Mars in the 2030s"...
The hand was completed in 1980 in Yokohama. It was based on a prototype developed at Waseda University. It was constructed with the assistance of Imasen in Nagoya. It has been used in performances by the artist between 1980- 1998 in Japan, the USA, Europe and Australia. It has become the best- known and longest-used performance object for the artist. Originally it was designed as a semi- permanent attachment to the body, but because of skin irritation from electrode gel and the weight of the hand, support structure and the battery pack (approx. 2 kgms), it could not be worn continuously and thus it became a special performance device. The Third Hand has come to stand for a body of work that explored intimate interface of technology and prosthetic augmentation- not as a replacement but rather as an addition to the body. A prosthesis not as a sign of lack, but rather a symptom of excess. The Third Hand performances, with amplified body signals and sounds, have contributed to cyborg discourses on the body, included in more recent performances such as FRACTAL FLESH, PING BODY and PARASITE. See documentation of the performance postcards for a conceptual context.
He probably wasn't wearing a seat belt. Judging from the pictures the driver's compartment and front seat were intact, so the crash would have probably been survivable if he was buckled up.
A pretty capable machine at a decent price and low power draw. Yes more than a Raspberry PI, but multi cores and real USB controller is worth it (at least for my realtime audio needs).
its Street View cars were accessing email, web history and other data on unencrypted Wi-Fi networks. A Google spokesman said the company was disappointed that the Supreme Court had declined to hear the case.
Boo hoo Google. By their logic, if I leave my door unlocked, the Google Street View car driver can stop his vehicle, open my door, and read the documents on my desk? Hey, I left my door unlocked so I was asking for it!
I find myself preferring name brands simply because I've just seen their logos and heard their names before.
That seems rather silly, if that's your only reason.
It's totally silly. I'm not defending advertising or supporting it. I'm ashamedly acknowledging it's effect on myself. I certainly don't like it! It's gotten to all of us to certain degrees. If we don't recognize what that extent is, were truly doomed.
The point of advertising is not to sell products but to promote their existence. Laugh all you want at the Ronco Rotisserie Chicken machines or Ginzu knives, but we *all* know them. I find myself preferring name brands simply because I've just seen their logos and heard their names before. That's what advertising is for.
Couldn't he have, you know, drank the water that was building up?
Without gravity, water floats in bubbles you can't easily blow out of the way and the surface tension can keep the film intact over your nose & mouth if their is enough. If you inhale a bubble, all you have is the force of your breath to blow it out. You can easily imagine a scenario where you run out of air in your lungs as the bubbles keep floating in front of your face in the helmet. Scary is putting it mildly.
national statistics showing that less than 2.4 percent of college students graduate with a degree in computer science
Only 2.4% percent, well yeah... it's only CS people. Since when did technology development only depend on CS graduates? Last I checked, there are more and more focus/applied degrees every year which would probably take care of a good number of those positions. Not every job needs a theoretical background, and all of those job postings for "App Developers" probably don't require a hardcore degree a this point...

I half expect to see a developer unlock for OS X, so that by default, you can't install anything on OSX that isn't from the App Store.
They already have this, it's called Gatekeeper. You can simply turn it off in the Security settings. The moment you can't I won't be using OSX ...
The SLS could have a mission: an Apollo 8 style Mars flyby in 2021: http://www.space.com/19985-pri...

How is this different from what the Stasi did?
It's *alot* easier now?

Yes you can. Artists ahead of their time, Stelarc's 1980 Third Hand: http://people.ucsc.edu/~joahan...

It's Obama's fault!

Strictly speaking, trove is an adjective.
Strictly speaking, you're wrong. Trove is a noun for "a collection of objects" and short for "treasure-trove". Ref: http://dictionary.reference.co...
StarTiger's Dropter
What the hell kind of name is that? Is this Wing Commander?

Like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
I thought this was about pant ... which should be at LEAST 2.0.
A C/C++ backend and platform-specific front ends aren't an option?
No. Thank. You. Why is this now the default instead of delivering a device that just works without the internet?
A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Looks like Sublime Text as a web browser. Now when you screw up, you're tab will show a frowny face.
