I'll tell you why it's not going to do any good. The movies all suck!
Now if you've tried to download movies of the internet thus far you'll
have found that on warez ftp sites you're dealing with 4 hours bnefore
you can start downloading at 5k/s (but only if you're willing to put
up with some 13 year old h4x0r's ego first)
Maybe you've tried the web and found 200 pop up ads for porn sites
before you get to a half dozen broken links.
Maybe you've downloaded 685 of 700 megs off of the newsgroup only to find
that the last 15 megs didn't make it to your newsserver and it's not
going to.
Or perhaps you've tried the wonderful and great Kazaa. Run a search today
for "The Two Towers" download it from various sources over the next 2 weeks
(with KB/s running anywhere between 0.01 and 0.26) press play on the film
only to find that what you've actually got is a copy of the new ice cube vehicle
"Barbershop"...
to top all that off *IF* you ever do get a copy of the film you're looking
for, some stupid dude in the shanghi theatre that they brought the handycam to
walks in from of you every time something cool happens.
Personally, If I can find a rock solid reliable, high speed source for movies
(lemme see 250KB/second) on the net, i'd gladly pay the $3.99 a film *OR* go so
far as to subscribe to their $9.95 a month deal. Bandwidth alone makes it work it...
Then again maybe these particular films also make it worthwhile...

For the average computer user a virus is an abstraction. Virus companies must PROMOTE thier product for the good of everyone.
These companies make money by making sure you don't notice any interruption in the use of your computer.
Think, If the average computer user never noticed an interuption wouldn't they one day say "why am i spending this much on an anti virus package that dosen't do anything for me"
Any computer that has a virus can potentially be part of a DoS attack. all of a sudden you're not only losing money on the customers that don't have anti virus packages but on those that get hit by DoS attacks (despite having anti-virus SW)
it is in ALL of our best interests that everyone has an anti virus package. and it is a RESPONSIBILITY of these companies to make sure that they promote knowledge of how much dammage a virus can do.
if symmantec et al. make money in the process SFW... we need them... more than you realize
I've been playing it all weekend, I
thought about submitting the story friday
night when i knew it was coming out on saturday... but then i remembered the
slashdot effect, and realized that It
would take a lot longer for me to get
my copy.
As it was, I downloaded it by paying for a "Personal Web Server" at fileplanet...
no wait and higher speeds, $10 to download
wolfenstein as soon as I want it, worth
every penny.
Anybody who is still having trouble
downloading it should try KAZAA, Music City, Morpheous etc...
They have some of the most brilliant download
logic i've ever seen, you download from all
sites that have a copy simultaneously and
take advantage of the fact that most cable/dsl connections are asynchronous... I'm amazed
with the frequency that I can see a download
reach 100+... also has tremendous RESUME capability
but that's all another point entirely... wolf is fun... i can't wait until i can buy it
why not just open it in a modified

every individual viewer could decide
to watch it in any mode of their

all objects and their positions will be
recorded for the whole match
ideally, it would be just like logging into
a server and floating around in DEMO mode
I love the idea of having color commentary

that'd be the best
yes... I agree... console games are NEVER
riddled with bugs.
For example, Twisted Metal: Black (PS2) hasn't crashed on me and required a system restart nor have I fallen through the bottom of the screen
and fallen through "magic 3d space" on the Tokyo Megaplex level in SSX (PS2)
what's more, I certainly am glad that there are no bugs in console games because unlike with a PC I would have no way of updating the software in the event of a bug.
skorwtenletron = nortelnetworks (check my "email address")
now i'm not saying that i'm reading slashdot when i should be working but, i'm sure that every big company has endless meetings. Otherwise, how is it that Dilbert could become so popular? The company that Dilbert works for is EVERY COMPANY.
no matter where we go we're screwed... scary isn't it?
Andromeda is a great show. but it's more fun if you pretend it's Hercules in space.
It makes the endless moralizing and boundless understanding of the Kevin Sorbo character all the more enjoyable.
I sure hope Eolis or Xena warrior princess show up in an episode soon.
Seriously, it's a great show to watch if you like sci-fi and don't take yourself too seriously
It read like _almost_ like a second or third year undergraduate paper on Payola and the current state of affairs in the music industry.
Part 2 was not as good as that one and it
began to make leaps in logic that weren't really backed up by any evidence, but in one case he stated his opinion as a theory and it was reasonable.
Part 3 is pretty bad. He's started making statements about why's and how's of the evolution of conformist culture that show little or no knowledge or research into the matter.
I'd reccomend he read some Desmond Morris as a start to his research (Manwatching, The Human Animal) Manwatching is a very nice big book that is more a reference than anything else (almost like a book on birdwatching actually) It has a section on reasons for the teen conformist-rebellion paradox. This section explains it in terms of status and the evolutionary advantage of being accepted in your peer group. As opposed to explaining it in terms of "Spear-Chucking".
This three part article was a big undertaking and, what's worse is that Part 1 was so well done it got our hopes up for the subsequent parts but unfortunately fell quite short in the end.
He probably should have spent more time researching and writing in advace. Making a sustained effort on the quality of writing that we saw in part one is VERY hard to do.
Read Part 1, it's worth it. Feel free to skip Parts 2 & 3.

I mean wasn't Achillies an near Invulnerable Warrior with one fatal flaw.
Is it not possible that OSC picked the name Achilles for THAT reason (as opposed to this whole homosexual theme)
I mean look at the Original post... his evidence includes the first two letters in the word GAME
as further proof that it is a story about homosexuality.
GA = GAY
that's the thing about news-forum style conversations, you can never really tell when a guy is joking
(to the original poster: please don't take this as evidence that someone out there thought it was a GOOD joke, i could tell that it was a joke though)
I think that it's a real stretch to include the piggies & their tree-cestors as another example of shade in the Ender series.
sure, trees create shade and the piggies were pobably under it a lot of the time
but OSC didn't really dwell on the images of shadow as cast by the trees (that i can recall)
as for the above post about shadow=evil=black=racist... it's just silly, that person can't really believe that, they're just saying that stuff to pretend to be an idiot
the only solution is to compare the original poster to Hitler and thus summarily end the thread via the Third law of Usenet postings (any flamewar will eventually degrade into one of the parties being compared to Hitler, thereby ending the thread)
(BTW OSC's The Nappy Hegemon... hilariously funny)
It's funny that you would ask that question
right at the same time that i found this link. It's an article (with a reasonably good bibliography) about software engineering and writing good code.
check out his links at the end of the article as well
What gets me is that this guy Hatch has introduced
such a seemingly innocuous bill under the name
of a "Medal of Valor" award when it is clearly
about something else entirely
In the hopes that people will ignore it and pass it by without reading it (which i'm sure
makes everyone else a little upset too)
someone should introduce a bill called
"the Cristian Family-Values, Orphan Feeding, Sweet Little fuzzy Puppy-Dog Hugging, Baseball The American Flag, Mom and Apple Pie is Good Bill"
it of course would make it Illegal to stack
bills with these sick little 'contract riders'
. . . essentially a bill making it a law that the title of a bill accurately describe the contents of a bill
anyone that voted against it would definately
be voted out of office in the next election
imagine the mudslinging campaign . . .
"Senator Blake last year in Office voted against Family values, against Orphans, against Puppy-Dogs, against Baseball, Against AMERICA, AGAINST MOM and AGAINST APPLE PIE!!! . . . do you really want pure evil incarnate representing you or your children?
(paid for by the friends of the office of the people who want to elect the other guy)"
if it is a development that requires a connecting piece on the motherboard, it would make sense that NvIDiA wait until a wide range of motherboards accepted it. Even perhaps making it SEEM like it's a freely useable standard technology...
and only once it's used on all motherboards become the sole-provider of the parts that connect to it.
maybe they released just the motherboard half of AGP as free and kept the on-card half to themselves...
(i'll have to admit to being a little in the dark about what the patents really refer to tho)
one can loose their rights to a patent if they don't defend it tho' (or is that trademark?)
maybe, by waiting so long nvidia will loose the right to be such crybabies
try that one... the original owner of corinthians.com had a bunch of passages
from some old book called 'the book of corinthians'
i think it may have had religious significance but can't recall the claimant was some brazilian soccer team los corinthianos (or something... i don't care too much for precision, simply accuracy)
there's an example for you
