If you think that commercials aren't even seen as a nuisance to many, you are dead wrong.
As a frustrated consumer, you should know that many of us have quit watching TV (I pulled the plug since 2000) because the ad/content ratio was getting worse (in a fifteen minute period, more airtime going to ads), the ads are way louder in volume than the content, and the ads were more intrusive (too many ads per hour, ads cramming the borders of the screen during program time) and annoying (ads disguised as news stories). Not to mention the extremely poor quality of news (Nancy (dis)Grace?!? Please...) and the despicable quality of content that passes for entertainment these days.
I quit watching TV because the ads were too invasive and the ratio of content to ads was getting worse. If cable TV channels want to push more ads, then why am I *PAYING* for content...?
I quit listening to broadcast radio because of too many ads.
Marketers are WAY too aggressive invading our eyespace. I got so fed up with ads and telemarketers that I pulled the plug on the radio/TV, got an unpublished phone #, and signed up for the federal do not call list.
I'm in no hurry to sign up for we7, thank you very much.
The rest of your comment reads rather like the comments of a 19th century misogynist who is sure that women are something other than human.
I'm afraid you have grossly misjudged me.
A misogynist hates women. Look it up in Websters.
If you had bothered to read my comments carefully, you would read that I despise the system - not women. There's a difference and you have failed to interpret it.
It's a common feminist ad hominem attack to label anyone who criticizes the system a misogynist. Such attacks are desparate measures to protect the status quo, and I will not submit to shaming tactics. I was married to a covert feminist and I am well aware of all the shaming techniques of the manipulative vindictive misandrist.
BTW, a misandrist hates males and you will not find that word in most dictionaries because the feminists who have infiltrated the organizations have exerted their influence to have that word removed from the dictionaries. I do not hate women, but I despise feminists. The difference is that the latter are a crafty deceptive scheming cult who have brainwashed a generation of lawmakers and innocent victims using manipulated studies or false pretenses to further their cause. Those deceptions date all the way back to the encounter with the serpent in the Garden of Eden, so don't go branding me as a 19th century stalwart.
If I am mistaken, please enlighten me and show me exactly where explicit violence targeting women (i.e. beating, raping, torture, etc) is promoted in The Bible.
To be fair, there are plenty of biblical examples where explicit violence targets men. I forget the exact scripture, but in the old testament there is the account of a war where a king hides in the dwelling of a woman, and she kills the king while he is hidden in a depressed opening covered by blankets.
Lobbying is a legal occupation that pays somewhere in the high-6-figure to low-7-figure range. Bribery and extortion are crimes that often result in prison time and heavy fines. Other than that, there's not much difference.
Ever notice that both wear clothing with whites stripes?
The "nerd factor" or discrimination has nothing to do with the drop of women in the CS field.
A career in CS demands an emphasis on logical thought process.
It is well established that most women in the US do not make decisions based on logic, they make decisions based on emotions and they rush to impulse decisions without considering the consequences. You cannot develop reliable software systems by relying solely on emotions without considering the consequences of your actions. Men are more logical and rational in their thought process.
The US media culture has been driving this mindset into women for decades. Browse through the women's interest section in any bookstore. Watch any of the TV shows that are targetted to women. Watch a couple of "chick flicks". The women's culture that is browbeaten into the female mind makes a poor match for the mindset that is demanded by the CS field. This culture is not prevalent in Asia and India which explains why there are more women from those countries in the CS field than there are US women. I've seen a lot of companies in my contract work and the majority of women involved in CS are either asian or european indian. That's not discrimination - that's the hiring process at work, hire the most qualified person for the job.
The PC Jr was a technical flop because it was intentionally crippled by IBM to prevent it from cutting into sales of the PC. It wouldn't run all the apps for the PC and you could buy software pre-loaded on ROM cartridges which didn't sit well with consumers. Add a nasty chiclet keyboard with a wireless interface that didn't and expensive options like color monitors (these were the days of monochrome) and it was the orphan computer that nobody wanted.
DAT didn't catch on with consumers because of its SCMS copy protection that was demanded by the recording industry (sound familiar?). It lived a limited life in professional studios until it was discovered that archived DAT tapes had poor retention (read: lots of dropouts, fatal to digital audio media) and the recording industry dropped it for future use. Besides that, professional CD burners rendered them redundant.
He also argues that putting the onus of spotting infringement onto the content providers represents an undue burden on them
That was the intent of the founders of copyright law. In exchange for copyright protection, copyright holders must use their own resources to find infringers. It is the same for patent and trademark holders. They cannot use taxpayer funded resources to find infringers, that would violate the spirit of the law.
As nasty as the RIAA is, they don't hold a candle to the tobacco companies: the only industry whose product, used as recommended, causes cancer, emphysema, and heart disease.
Ah, but the tobacco companies don't buy legislators to pass the MAFIAA-eccentric DMCA, they don't infiltrate government to push copyright extension, they don't skip the judicial review process of obtaining subpeonas in the name of reducing their own legal costs, and they do not engage in "Hollywood accounting" or endentured slavery contracts with their product growers.
It'd be a shame if something happened to it.
You can give away Vista.
Problem solved.
*Jedi hand wave* These aren't the cams you are looking for...
No, the problem is that there are too many idiots at the election booths.
How about HD-DeAACS-0x09F911029D74E35BD84156C5635688C0-DVD?
You mean FF0000-ray?
Think Spice Girls.
The iPod...?
Other than that and the financial sector, there's no reason for an employer to have your fingerprints.
They're not fooling anyone.

Yeah, and the king has no clothes, either.
You are attempting to add a bass solo to this song. Abort, retry, or ignore?
All your bays are belong to us...

There, fixed it for you.
Fair enough, we do not intend to support your arrogance. Welcome to our blacklist.
